Hello, fellow Iowans! If your family is craving an outdoor adventure filled with fun, relaxation, and plenty of activities, then Cedar River Campground in Tipton, Iowa, is a destination well worth considering. Formerly known as Hunt's Cedar River Campground, this spot aims to be a full-service family campground conveniently located right here in the heart of our state, offering a wide array of amenities designed to keep everyone entertained. It's a place where you can create new memories, enjoy the great outdoors, and truly unwind.
Cedar River Campground positions itself as a lively destination that caters to families and friends. With its array of amenities like a swimming pool, mini-golf, and a playground, it promises plenty to do for both kids and adults. The campground offers various site types, including full hookup RV sites and options for tent camping, ensuring there’s a spot to fit different camping preferences. They even promote planned activities and river frontage for water fun, highlighting their commitment to an engaging camping experience.
However, it's worth noting that recent customer experiences suggest that the full potential of these amenities and the overall atmosphere are best enjoyed during their "open season" when everything is fully operational and maintained. Some feedback indicates that during off-peak times or when amenities aren't fully ready, the experience might not live up to expectations, with mentions of unkempt areas or less-than-friendly interactions. For the best experience, it seems planning your visit during the peak season when all the fun activities are in full swing and the grounds are immaculately maintained is key. When it's at its best, Cedar River Campground provides a dynamic and amenity-rich environment for a memorable Iowa camping trip.
Cedar River Campground is conveniently located at 1231 306th St, Tipton, IA 52772, USA. This address places the campground in Tipton, Iowa, a charming community in Cedar County. One of its most notable features for accessibility is its direct proximity to Interstate 80. While some reviewers mention highway noise, its location "right up against the interstate" (specifically from Jct I-80, exit 267 & SR 38: Go 500 feet N on SR 38) makes it incredibly easy for travelers to access for a quick stopover or a longer stay.
Despite the highway proximity, the campground offers a natural setting along the Cedar River, which provides opportunities for various water-based activities like fishing, boating, canoeing, and tubing. The site also boasts "1000 feet of river frontage," allowing easy access to the water. While the entrance to the park might involve a "dusty gravel road" according to some past reviews, the overall convenience of being just off a major interstate cannot be overstated for those traveling through Iowa.
For those looking to explore beyond the campground, Tipton offers local attractions such as the Tipton County Historical Museum and the Tipton County Fairgrounds. Larger Iowa cities like Iowa City (approximately 26 minutes away), Davenport (around 31 minutes away), and Cedar Rapids (about 39 minutes away) are all within a manageable driving distance. This means campers can enjoy the peace of a rural setting with the option to venture into urban areas for more extensive shopping, dining, or cultural experiences. The blend of easy highway access and natural river beauty makes Cedar River Campground a strategically located option for diverse camping needs in Eastern Iowa.

All started ok. Until I drove my pickup through an unmarked golf cart only area. The owner was not so pleasant about it. As she was in her side by side. Not golf cart. Felt like I was being harassed as my grandsons was packing up our fishing gear. Because it was a must to get my truck out. We wasn't moving fast enough for her she come right back harassing us again. Not friendly at all. Will not be returning. Was wondering how I could rebuttal what she has said about my review everything she has said on her is not the truth campers and visitors beware she is not a nice lady
Jun 02, 2025 · Donald HenningsWe didn't know there would be a quarter mile of gravel to the campground with a steep hill down to our site. Bathrooms weren't cleaned-winter dirt on toilet seats in the permanent bathroom near the river with leaves blown in /neglected. Grass wasn't mowed. Full price even tho nothing was open. Mini golf had debris all over. The road was washed out near site c4, which was a pull through for our 65' motor home and towing a truck. We did have basic water, electricity & and sewer, but it was not worth the full price. If you have kids, this might be fun during the open season. People drove by on a golf cart but weren't friendly. If you are desperate for a night, a walmart parking lot would be better because of the highway noise. Amenities would get 5 stars if they were ready.
Apr 24, 2025 · S7Wa GTook a group of older teenagers camping here this weekend for my daughter's eighteenth birthday And they had a blast it may not be a high end With new and exciting attractions but It was perfect for us had plenty of room for camping in our tents And everything was close by in very convenient We like the quieter. Campgrounds Where there's not tons of people in overland crowded And it was perfect plenty Still to do and the kids all wanna go back again so that should say something
Jun 02, 2025 · April M.L. (Ape)We absolutely love this campground! The owners are nice and extremely helpful. Everyone has been super friendly and helpful. My kids love the pool, snack bar and the pool house. We especially loved candy bar bingo! Is next to the I-80 but that has never bothered us. I don’t notice the sound until someone asks about it. Permanent spots are close, but again that doesn’t bother us, especially with awesome neighbors. Great rates! Fun activities on the weekend! Super quick to cleanup after storms.
Jul 18, 2024 · Brittany ScottWhen I arrived in Iowa, I was faced with finding a place to stay with my travel trailer last minute. Melissa at Cedar River was awesome to work with. Even in the midst of trying to attend to a downed tree branch that she needed to clear in the camp, Melissa stopped what she was doing to help me get into a space. The facility was clean and maintained and access to the sites was clear and easy to navigate. I highly recommend staying at Cedar River Campground. My trip was four weeks and I never had an issue or problem and any questions I had were immediately answered. I look forward to staying here again on my next trip out to Iowa! Thanks for a great experience. Tom
