Introduction / Overview
For generations of local Pennsylvanians, the concept of a ‘campground’ often conjures images of rustic simplicity, community fellowship, and a peaceful escape into the state’s beautiful natural landscapes. Central Oak Heights (COH), nestled in West Milton, PA, is a special location that embodies this heritage, offering far more than a typical seasonal campsite. Established in 1909 as a religious retreat, COH has evolved into a unique, non-profit Christian association that provides opportunities for recreational, spiritual, and cultural enrichment for the entire Central Pennsylvania community.
This historic 55-acre hilltop community, once known as Miller’s Grove, features privately-owned cottages alongside a variety of rental facilities, making it a flexible venue for events ranging from family reunions and group retreats to picturesque weddings. Real customer reviews consistently highlight the venue’s capacity as a "great quiet getaway" and praise the efficient, professional, and "very sweet, accommodating" staff. It is a place deeply embedded in the local history and continues to serve as a hub for both public events and private seasonal lodging, making it a cherished institution in the Susquehanna River Valley.
Location and Accessibility
Central Oak Heights is conveniently located at 75 Heritage Rd, West Milton, PA 17886, USA, in Kelly Township, Union County. The hilltop position provides a serene overlook of the West Branch Susquehanna River, creating a naturally beautiful and tranquil atmosphere that feels secluded yet remains highly accessible.
This prime location places the community just across the river from the borough of Milton and a short distance from the bustling town of Lewisburg, home to Bucknell University and a vibrant downtown. Its proximity to major thoroughfares, including US Route 15, ensures that Central Oak Heights is easily reachable for local users traveling from nearby regions like Williamsport, Sunbury, and Danville (the home of Geisinger Medical Center). The ease of access, combined with a large, dedicated field that is noted to have "more than enough room for wedding parking or car shows," makes logistics simple for both small family visits and large-scale public or private events. Furthermore, the area is rich with outdoor opportunities, being close to Milton State Park and various regional Rails to Trails paths for hiking and biking, appealing directly to the outdoor enthusiasts of Pennsylvania.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
Central Oak Heights is perfectly suited for local Pennsylvanians because it serves a crucial dual role: it is both a historic community sanctuary and a modern, versatile event and retreat center. For families and groups in the Susquehanna River Valley, it offers an accessible and beautiful "getaway" without the need for extensive travel. The fact that the association provides various facilities—from the rustic cabins to the spacious Dining Hall—makes it an exceptionally flexible option for hosting local milestones, whether it is a small church retreat, a large family reunion, or a once-in-a-lifetime wedding ceremony at the gorgeous Sylvan Chapel.
Furthermore, the non-profit's commitment to the wider community through free summer concerts and worship services solidifies its role as a valuable local resource for spiritual and cultural enrichment. By choosing Central Oak Heights, local users are not just renting a space; they are connecting with a piece of Central Pennsylvania history and supporting a community-focused institution that has preserved its natural setting and sense of peace for over a century. It truly is a local gem that provides the perfect backdrop for making new memories in a classic PA setting.

We recently had our wedding ceremony at the Sylvan Chapel within the Central Oaks Heights community and let me tell you, it was perfect! From the very beginning when I first spoke with Beckie about the options and booking it with them to the day of the wedding, everything was handled in a very efficient and professional manner. We had multiple phone calls to review all details leading up to it, and she made sure everyone was on the same page. During the rehearsal dinner we went to officially see it all in person (as we booked sight unseen from Kansas) and the whole place is absolutely gorgeous. There was a 80% chance of rain during the scheduled time of the ceremony, so her team also showed me a backup option on the premises that was equally as nice. They were so flexible with the day of in case we needed to move it in the hours leading up to it for rain, but thankfully it decided not to rain. They also covered the benches with white plastic to ensure they stayed dry and they looked very nice in pictures. I was beyond pleased with everyone from COH that we had the pleasure to meet and work with. Everyone was so very sweet, accommodating and overall just really great people. Thank you all for everything that made our big day absolutely perfect!

May 26, 2025 · Ben FinchWe go here every year for family vacation with my in-laws because it's a great place to go for quality family time. It's such a peaceful place; it's like time is less relevant here, but more valuable, if that makes sense. Being here is like going back in time. The kids play together outside in the pool or at the playground (which has the kind of slide I remember from my childhood - the tall, fast kind you never see anymore) and make memories together. Nothing here is new, and most things you see have been here since the 50's. The only exception I can think of is the glass top stove in the kitchen. It doesn't feel run-down though. It feels special, like a hidden nook in the world that escaped the pressure of keeping up with the Joneses. We bring board games and take turns making meals and have a great time just being together. There's enough to do that you can get away when you need to, but not so much to do that you never see each other. There's no heat or air conditioning, so pay attention to the forecast and dress appropriately. There are lots of trees, so that helps keep the temperature down in the summer, but the whole place is closed in winter months. It's close enough to Knoebel's that we usually spend a day there whenever we come here, and there are lots of small towns nearby to explore and shop in if you like. There are outdoor programs from time to time as well, and they are open to the public, so people from off campus come to those.
Jul 31, 2021 · Abigail KorfmannBetween my barbershop chorus, and now my Irish/Celtic group we've had the opportunity to perform here on their summer music series a number of times. It is always a pleasure to be invited, and share music here. An excellent community and very supportive of the local music scene. I absolutely recommend coming here for the music and in a beautiful/enjoyable setting!
