This prime Upper Peninsula address places it just off the Menominee River, near the Chalk Hills Dam, making it easily accessible from both Michigan and Wisconsin. Its setting in Holmes Township offers a tranquil retreat while still being connected to outdoor attractions.

Getting to Chalk Hills Campground is straightforward. • Clean Well Water: Cold, clean well water is readily available at a main station or well house near the entrance. This pressurized water source ensures campers have access to fresh drinking water, though threaded connections for filling tanks are not allowed per state regulations for rustic campgrounds.

  • Free Firewood (Downed Wood): Campers are permitted to collect any downed wood within the campground for their campfires, providing a natural and free source of fuel. It's important to note that cutting standing wood (dead or alive) is not allowed, and campers should check Michigan laws regarding transporting wood.

Their kindness, friendliness, and daily rounds (sometimes with treats for kids or kindling) create a welcoming and personable environment that fosters loyalty and encourages return visits.

We just spent 3 nights there, very quit, no one else was there 2 of the 3 nights. Deer and turkey kept an eye on us. The temps were in the 90s so the electricity was nice to run the AC. The camp is clean and roomy sites.

Great campground, electric at every site, numerous boat ramps on the river nearby. Price can't be beat, and arguably best of all, cell service is marginal at best, allowing you to actually disconnect for a bit. Love my stays there, cannot wait to get back.
