Great location for primitive camping, comfortably! Took my two boys for an overnight stay and had a wonderful time. The couple managing the park experience and stores are so incredibly accommodating and friendly. They’re developing a community experience for both short-term guests and longer-term residents. We quickly caught some baby brim using bread, and spent the evening relaxing by the campfire and enjoying the beautiful view. The hot shower was a nice added comfort we usually wouldn’t get in the middle of the woods and it was comforting to know they were well stocked if we had decided to stay longer or forgot something at home. Will most definitely be returning! Be sure to check it this place out!
Apr 01, 2025 · Lee HowellWe stayed at Dead Lakes RV Park for a month and had an amazing time! The river access was perfect for kayaking, and we loved exploring the piers over the ponds, spotting turtles, fish, and even an alligator one day! The playground is massive—our kids had a blast—and the people here are beyond fantastic. The community events, like hot dog night and s’mores, made us feel so welcome. It’s a beautiful, friendly place, and we can’t wait to come back! Highly recommend!
Mar 10, 2025 · Melissa JackA Hidden Gem: The Ultimate Dead Lakes Campground Experience We had the absolute privilege of work-camping at Dead Lakes Campground for just over a month, and it was nothing short of magical. Nestled in the heart of Florida’s wild beauty, this place instantly felt like home—not just because of the stunning scenery but because of the incredible people who run it. Our campsite was huge—a dream spot with no neighbors the entire time, giving our kids what felt like their own private field to run wild in. Right in front of us, a peaceful pond reflected the sky, and every single night, nature put on a show. We saw owls, foxes, rabbits, and deer regularly. The sounds of the woods at night near the far laundry area? Some of the eeriest and most incredible we've ever heard. One of the absolute highlights was getting to fish with local Crappie legend Chad—aka Crappie Kid. He took us out on the river, where we saw the towering, ancient cypress stumps rising like sentinels from the water. We had the once-in-a-lifetime experience of catching crappie in Dead Lakes with snow all around us! Chad isn’t just a fishing pro—he knows the history of this place inside and out. If you ever get the chance to fish with him, make sure he uses his handmade lures—guaranteed bites! And then there’s Joy and Billy, the true heart and soul of this campground. Every morning, you can enjoy coffee with two of the kindest, most genuine people you’ll ever meet. From the moment we arrived, they treated us like family. Billy even spent half the day racing our son on a golf cart vs. motorbike showdown, and now Hunter insists Billy is his best friend. Be sure to ask them about the legendary tales of Dead Lakes—you won’t regret it! A Campground That Has It All Dead Lakes Campground is the perfect blend of rustic and modern comfort. Whether you prefer primitive tent camping or full-hookup, pull-through RV sites, there’s something for everyone. For families, it’s a paradise: Large, sanded playground for the kids Covered walking bridge over a pond, leading to beautiful wooden bench swings Year-round events in the rec area—while we were there, we joined in on a chili cook-off, fish fry, craft fair, Valentine’s breakfast, craft night, movie night, a giant community campfire with hotdogs, and peaceful morning fellowships by the pond. Amenities Galore Multiple laundry stations and large bathrooms with showers A fully stocked campground store—from camping gear to food, even alcohol Free coffee every morning while you browse the Dead Lakes Bait Shop, where you can pick up live bait, high-quality poles, and even rent a kayak for a day on the water And as if that’s not enough, it’s only about 30 minutes from Port St. Joe or Panama City, meaning you can enjoy the best of both worlds—peaceful nature and world-class beaches, or neon-lit nights full of adventure. They were even in the process of putting up a dog park while we were there—another sign of just how much love and effort the folks here put into this place. Final Thoughts Dead Lakes Campground isn’t just a place to visit—it’s a place to experience, to make memories, and to feel truly welcomed. Whether you're looking for a getaway, a work-camping opportunity, or even a new place to call home, this campground has it all and then some. We will definitely be back.
Feb 24, 2025 · Tyina DennyWe found this little Hideaway a couple of months ago and we have enjoyed every stay. Very engaged and active community from the park managers Billy and his wife doing an excellent job. The park is clean and developing more and more every time we go back making reservation is easy online And again the interactive staff stay touch through the process and is very willing to help. Enjoy the evenings by the campfires meeting new people and making some friends along the way. Our past visit this last weekend found that the dog park was open and some trees have been planted to add some much-needed shade to the park. Outside of that Billy told us a whole new section of the park will be opening within the next couple of months. Bring a bike cause you’re only about a mile and a half away from a store if you need to pick up something, but of course there’s a tackle shop and a country store right there on the property. Complete with a saxophone and an electric guitar if you’re so inclined Whether you practice or play. This is a great little gem and for us it’s about an hour and a half away, makes it just perfect to escape for a weekend.
