Introduction / Overview
Nestled on 65 scenic acres bordering the famous Cook Forest State Park, Deer Meadow Campground stands as the largest family-oriented RV and trailer facility in the Cooksburg, Pennsylvania area. This destination is perfectly suited for local users across the Commonwealth looking for a dedicated, activity-rich, and secure camping experience amidst the breathtaking beauty of the Pennsylvania Wilds. The mission of Deer Meadow Campground is to provide a quality, safe, and fun environment where families can create lasting memories, offering a comfortable blend of nature immersion and modern amenities.
Deer Meadow caters specifically to recreational vehicles (RVs), motorhomes, and trailers, emphasizing convenient hookups and a controlled access gate to ensure peace of mind for all guests. The campground successfully strikes a balance between open, sunny sites and more private, wooded loops, accommodating various camping styles. Many Pennsylvania residents view this as a perfect seasonal or week-long retreat, as evidenced by loyal customers who drive over five hours to secure their favorite spot year after year. This loyalty speaks volumes about the quality of the experience provided, which is frequently described by patrons as "extremely well run" with a "great feel for the country setting."
The true essence of Deer Meadow lies in its commitment to family fun and organized recreation. Unlike simpler, rustic campgrounds, Deer Meadow offers a full slate of planned weekend activities—which may include live bands, bingo, themed weekends like "Christmas in July" or "Halloween in August," and complimentary "Hey" rides on Saturdays. This robust activity schedule, combined with excellent on-site facilities, establishes Deer Meadow Campground as a premier, full-service camping hub in Western Pennsylvania, making it an ideal choice for families seeking a relaxed yet engaging vacation.
Location and Accessibility
Deer Meadow Campground is strategically located at 2761 Forest Rd, Cooksburg, PA 16217, right at the intersection of stunning natural landmarks. Cooksburg is the gateway to the renowned Cook Forest State Park, often called the "Forest Cathedral" for its towering old-growth pine and hemlock trees. This setting in Forest County places the campground deep within the expansive and beautiful Pennsylvania Wilds region.
Accessibility is a key strength for Pennsylvania residents traveling from both the east and west. The campground is conveniently reached via major interstate and state routes: travelers following I-80 East or West can easily connect onto Route 36 or Route 66, which lead directly into the Cooksburg area. This makes Deer Meadow an approachable weekend or week-long escape from cities like Pittsburgh and Erie (less than two hours away), offering a secluded wilderness experience without a punishing travel time.
Critically, the campground’s location allows for easy access to a wealth of outdoor activities. It is minutes away from the hiking trails and scenic overlooks of Cook Forest State Park, and close to the Clarion River, which offers opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, and tubing with local outfitters. Additionally, local attractions such as horse stables and country restaurants are often within walking or a short driving distance, providing ample entertainment options outside the campground gates. This perfect blend of seclusion and nearby recreation firmly establishes Deer Meadow as a prime camping spot for active Pennsylvania families.

Came here to have a relaxing trip. Ended up with a camper directly behind us with 10 dogs. Not an exaggeration exactly 10 dogs and they barked continuously. Every time a person, a vehicle or golf cart went past they barked. Then the power went out which to clarify was not the campgrounds fault but at that point staying with no ac running to drown out the dog barking we decided it was time to go. Asked at the office about a refund for the two nights we weren’t staying and we were told no that we could have a camp credit which we passed on because of the issues with dogs. Who knows what it would be the next time we came back.
Aug 16, 2025 · Jason BrantThis is our second year. We stay a full week each time. We drive five hours and 15 minutes for spot 34. This is electric/water hookup. We bring a rhino hookup for easy dumping of black water by the office. This campground is by far the best and we love it. Extremely well run. Check in and out is very well set up. Gate access is fantastic. Great pool with large walk down steps and goes from 3-5 foot gradually. Small camp store that is well stocked. Weekend activities (this year it was bingo and two live bands). Free Hey Rides on Saturdays at 3. Relaxed atmosphere. We had 5 sites total betwen all the family that came down and it was amazing. Clean campground with a great feel for the country setting. All pictures were within 50 feet of our site.
Jul 04, 2023 · Bobby Jo WinkelmannBecause I travel full time, my family and I stayed for a full month. The campground could have more RV spots for campers but its okay. The weekends here get BUSY! But the weekdays are very quiet .They don't have any bathroom facilities except for the outhouses near the pool. No bath houses also means no showers unless you have an RV or happen to know one of the annual site members. The pool is nice! Only 5ft deep so great for the kids, there are two playgrounds one big one and the other is about half the size. They have an off leash dog area and this place is very dog friendly. You're literally across the street from Cooks forest so if you are planning on visiting the forest or staying for a week or two, this was a great place. All the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Tracie does a great job of making everyone feel welcome. I would definitely recommend this camp ground to anyone looking to stay in Cooks forest/Cooksburg.
Jul 26, 2022 · Dom WelchSpent a little over a week here. Everyone we met was friendly. Had a great time swimming. Nice laundry facility, small game room kept us busy while we were doing laundry, played some put put too. Nice little store. Lots to do in the area!!!
Aug 19, 2022 · S CFirst campground I've ever encountered that doesn't answer their phone, nor return voice messages, nor reply to emails. After repeatedly contacting them over a 2 1/2 week period, with not even a hint of a reply, I made reservations elsewhere. Business must be awfully good, that they don't need to reply to inquiries.
