Location and Accessibility

Dovetail Acres Campground is strategically located at 10282 WI-57, Sister Bay, WI 54234, USA. This prime address places it approximately 1.5 miles from the charming village of Sister Bay, a highly sought-after destination in Door County. For Wisconsin residents, this means convenient access to one of the state's most popular vacation spots without having to navigate extensive distances. Highway 57 is a main thoroughfare through Door County, making the campground easy to find and access for vehicles of all sizes, including large RVs and trailers.

The proximity to Sister Bay is a significant advantage. Campers have quick and easy access to the village's array of shops, restaurants, art galleries, and public beaches. This allows for a unique camping experience where you can enjoy the tranquility of the campground while still being just a short drive or bike ride away from lively community events and amenities. The campground’s location also serves as an excellent jumping-off point for exploring other Door County attractions, including state parks, lighthouses, wineries, and numerous small towns dotted along the peninsula.

Upon arrival, the campground is clearly signposted. While current check-in procedures might direct you to a store/gas station at the front, staff are available to assist with the process, or online check-in may be encouraged for a smoother experience. The internal roads are designed to accommodate RVs and trailers, ensuring relatively easy maneuvering within the grounds. Its straightforward access from a major state highway simplifies travel plans, making Dovetail Acres a hassle-free destination for your Door County getaway.

Services Offered

Dovetail Acres Campground is designed to provide a comfortable and convenient camping experience with a range of essential services.

  • Full Hookup RV Sites: All RV sites are equipped with full hookups, including water, electricity, and sewer connections. This provides maximum convenience for RV campers, ensuring a comfortable stay without the need for frequent trips to dump stations.

  • Tent Sites with Water and Electricity: For tent campers, designated sites come with access to water and electricity, enhancing the traditional tent camping experience with modern conveniences.

  • On-site Gas Station & Camping Supplies: The campground features an on-site gas station, making it easy to refuel your vehicle. A convenient store within the gas station offers a variety of camping supplies, ensuring you have access to essentials during your stay.

  • Seasonal Bar/Grill: A seasonal bar/grill is available on-site, offering a convenient dining option for campers who prefer not to cook every meal. This adds a social element and a place to relax and unwind.

  • Bathhouses with Showers: While some customers have noted the compact size of the showers (approximately 2.5 feet square), bathhouses are available with shower facilities. Campers should be aware that the bathhouse lights are on a motion-activated timer and heating may be inconsistent, so planning for potential cooler temperatures is advisable.

  • Pet-Friendly Area: The campground has a designated area for campers traveling with pets, separate from non-pet areas. This helps to manage noise and ensures a more comfortable experience for all guests.

It is worth noting that while essential services are provided, aspects like bathhouse heating and consistent toilet paper replenishment have been areas of feedback from some visitors. The management appears to be working on refining the camper experience in this new facility.

Features / Highlights

Dovetail Acres Campground offers several features that make it an attractive option for campers visiting Door County.

  • Relatively New Campground: As a newer facility, Dovetail Acres benefits from modern infrastructure and design. This means less wear and tear compared to older campgrounds, offering a fresh and clean environment for campers.

  • Variety of Site Types: The campground provides both back-in and pull-through RV sites, catering to different vehicle sizes and preferences. Additionally, dedicated tent sites with water and electricity are available, often described as "adorable" by visitors, indicating thoughtful design for tent campers.

  • Separate Pet Area: A significant highlight for pet owners is the clearly defined pet-friendly camping area. This separation helps to minimize potential disruptions for campers without pets and provides a dedicated space for those traveling with their furry companions.

  • Proximity to Sister Bay: Its location just 1.5 miles from Sister Bay provides easy access to the village’s popular attractions, dining, shopping, and waterfront activities. This convenience allows campers to enjoy both the tranquility of nature and the vibrant local culture.

  • Full Hookups on RV Sites: The provision of full hookups (water, electric, sewer) on all RV sites is a major convenience, offering a seamless and comfortable stay for recreational vehicle owners.

  • On-Site Convenience: The presence of an on-site gas station and a store stocking camping supplies means campers don't have to venture far for fuel or last-minute necessities, adding to the overall ease of their stay.

While the campground is still maturing, particularly with grass growth in some areas, its newness and commitment to essential amenities make it a solid choice for campers seeking a modern and well-equipped base in Door County.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a relatively new business, specific, ongoing promotional "deals" at Dovetail Acres Campground may vary or be introduced seasonally. Based on recent customer feedback, a standard rate for a back-in RV site on gravel was approximately ~$60 per night, while tent sites were noted at around $45 per night. These prices are generally considered competitive for the Door County area, especially given the full hookups for RVs and the provision of water and electricity for tent sites.

It's important for potential campers to note that, as of recent reports, Dovetail Acres does not offer veteran or senior discounts. This is a point that some previous visitors have highlighted. However, given its status as a newer campground, there might be future considerations for such programs or other special offers as the business establishes itself further.

To secure the best rates and availability, especially during Door County's popular tourist seasons (summer and fall), it is highly recommended to book your stay in advance. While there may not be specific published "promotions" in the traditional sense, booking early ensures you get your preferred site type and dates.

For the most up-to-date pricing, any potential seasonal promotions, or information on extended stay discounts, it is always best to directly contact Dovetail Acres Campground. Their staff can provide the most accurate and current information regarding rates and any available special offers.

I stayed here with a small trailer for 3 nights during the last week in May, 2025. The campground had many open sites. Cost: ~$60 per night for a back-in on gravel. Location: ~1.5 mi. from Sister Bay, WI. Amenities: Gas station & camping supplies on-site, seasonal bar/grill. Condition: Relatively new campground so no significant wear & tear yet. Biking/Walking: Nothing intentional. Remarks: This campground could easily be above average with a little more Feng Shui in campground design and thoughtfulness in creating a pleasant camper experience. The showers are all way too cramped, even the handicapped. E.g., the basic shower stall is ~2.5 feet square. The bathhouse lights are on a timer that detects motion in the common area, set obviously for the quick moving young & agile who do everything in a fraction of the time of an elderly, somewhat impaired vet. BTW, there's no veteran or senior discount here. There appears to be a heater for the bathhouse but no way or nobody to adjust it. Of course, this is not a problem for those who don't mind showering in 45-50° air temps. A camper shouldn't have to inform the staff when TP has to be replenished. Responsible campers expect basic campground rules to be enforced. E.g., travelers with dogs shouldn't be assigned a site among the spots for non-dog owners. Not everyone can simply tune out next door yipyip and woof. There's more, but 'nuf said. A generous rating would be almost 3 out of 5, but sometimes rounding up can't be justified.

Great place to camp in an RV or tent. It’s very new and the grass is still coming in so many sites are dirt with a few weeds. The back in sites are longer than the pull through sites. There is an area for campers with pets which is separate from no pet area. The check in needs a lot of improvements. Currently, the sign says to check in at the store/gas station in the front but the clerk had no idea how to do it and told us to do it online. All RV sites have full hook ups. The tent sites had water and electricity (and were just adorable). The price was $45 per night and well worth it. Easy to find location near Sister Bay.

Great campground with many options for various size RVs, trailers, and tents. Each RV site has power, water, and sewer hookup. Each site also has a picnic table, grill and firepit. Wifi service worked great. Area shuttle makes a stop out front or it's a quick bike ride into Sister Bay. Great having an onsite restaurant & bar along with a store for forgotten items or other local foods (Marchants meats and sausages)

Clean showers/bathrooms, solid internet, nice location. Gas station is really pricey, but that's par for the course in northern Door Country. The only thing I would change is adding some garbage cans around the site. They ask you to set your trash out and one of the staff will pick it up, but often the birds will tear the bags open and spread the trash all over. Overall I really like this place.

Nice, peaceful, clean. Close to attractions. Wifi and full set ups makes it convenient. Not much for kids to do there. Feels more geared for older campers.
