This article will delve into what you can expect from Easter Posey Recreation Area, including its location, the services it offers, and some key aspects highlighted by past visitors. We aim to provide a factual and balanced overview to help you determine if this campground aligns with your camping style and priorities.

Introduction / Overview

Easter Posey Recreation Area is a campground situated within the Redstone Arsenal Recreation Area, located in Valhermoso Springs, AL 35775, USA. It operates primarily as a highly budget-conscious camping destination, attracting visitors who are looking for the most economical way to access electric and water hookups for their RVs or trailers.

The core appeal of Easter Posey is its affordability, often available for as little as $12.00 per night. This price point makes it an extremely attractive option for long-term stays, individuals on tight budgets, or those simply passing through who need a basic place to park with utilities. It's important for prospective campers to understand that this focus on affordability means that certain amenities or levels of upkeep typically found at higher-priced private campgrounds may not be present.

Reviews from past visitors consistently point to the cost-effectiveness as its main strength. While some feedback addresses areas that could be improved, the consensus is that for the price, it provides a functional and practical solution for camping in the Valhermoso Springs area. It caters to a specific niche of campers who prioritize value and are generally self-reliant.

Location and Accessibility

Easter Posey Recreation Area is located within the expansive Redstone Arsenal Recreation Area, at Valhermoso Springs, AL 35775, USA. While the address places it in Valhermoso Springs, its primary connection is to the Redstone Arsenal, a major U.S. Army post near Huntsville. This suggests that access to the campground might be primarily for individuals with military affiliation or those sponsored by someone with military access, though public access for recreation areas within military installations can vary, and it's always advisable to verify entry requirements beforehand.

The campground's location offers a sense of being part of a larger recreational complex. For Alabamians residing in or around Huntsville and other Northern Alabama areas, it offers a relatively close-by and inexpensive option for getting away. Its proximity to the Redstone Arsenal could also mean convenient access to some of the post's amenities, depending on visitor policies.

While specific directions within the Redstone Arsenal Recreation Area are not detailed, campers should anticipate driving through the recreational grounds to reach the campground. This suggests a setting that is likely removed from direct city noise, offering a more secluded camping experience. Its accessibility would largely depend on the ease of entry to the Redstone Arsenal itself and the internal road network within the recreation area.

Services Offered

Easter Posey Recreation Area provides essential services geared towards basic, affordable camping. The key offerings that draw campers to this site are focused on utility provision at a low cost:

  • Electric Hookups: Each site is equipped with electric hookups, a crucial amenity for RVs, travel trailers, and even tent campers needing power for lights, charging devices, or small appliances.
  • Water Hookups: Potable water connections are available at the campsites, allowing campers to easily refill their fresh water tanks or connect directly to a water source.
  • Restrooms and Toilets: The campground provides access to restroom facilities. However, based on reviews, the cleanliness and condition of these facilities, including toilets and showers, can be inconsistent, with reports of rust and a need for more in-depth cleaning.

It's important to set expectations that while these basic services are provided, the emphasis is on affordability. Campers should be prepared for facilities that might not meet the cleanliness standards of more expensive, full-service campgrounds. The lack of consistent high-level cleaning is a noted point of feedback, suggesting that campers should come prepared with their own sanitation supplies if high standards are a priority.

Features / Highlights

Easter Posey Recreation Area, while budget-friendly, does offer some features that are noteworthy for Alabamian campers:

  • Extremely Affordable Pricing: This is by far its most significant highlight, with daily rates reported as low as $12.00 for sites with electric and water hookups. This makes it one of the most economical camping options available, especially for longer stays.
  • Electric and Water Hookups: For the price, having access to both electric and water hookups is a strong advantage, providing essential conveniences for RV and trailer owners.
  • Quiet Time Policy: The campground reportedly has a "quiet time" policy for its residents. While adherence by non-campers (like cyclists) is noted as an issue by some, the intention to foster a peaceful environment for campers is present.
  • Located Within a Recreation Area: Being part of the Redstone Arsenal Recreation Area suggests access to broader recreational opportunities, though specific details on these are not provided in the reviews. This could include trails, open spaces, or other communal facilities within the larger area.
  • Good for Self-Sufficient Campers: Given the feedback on facility cleanliness and external noise, the campground is best suited for self-sufficient campers who prioritize low cost and basic hookups over pristine amenities or a strictly serene environment.

However, it is crucial to address the areas highlighted by customer reviews that might be considered downsides:

  • Cleanliness of Facilities: The most significant recurring concern is the cleanliness of the bathrooms and showers. Reviewers describe rusted stalls, falling rust, dirt, mold, and a general lack of in-depth cleaning. This is a vital point for prospective campers to consider, especially if they rely heavily on campground facilities.
  • Noise Levels: Despite a quiet time policy, some visitors note that the area is "not quiet here most of the time," citing loud talking from cyclists who gather near facilities, implying that external noise can be an issue.
  • Lack of Grounds Upkeep: Tall weeds are mentioned, suggesting that general grounds maintenance, at least in some areas, might be inconsistent, potentially affecting the overall aesthetic and comfort for campers and their pets.
Promotions or Special Offers

Given the highly competitive daily rate of Easter Posey Recreation Area (reportedly around $12.00 for electric and water hookups), it is unlikely that the campground frequently offers additional "promotions" or "special offers" in the traditional sense. Its everyday pricing already acts as its primary promotional draw – it is designed to be an exceptionally affordable option.

For campgrounds operating at such a low price point, their value proposition is built into the base rate. Any "offers" would likely pertain to:

  • Long-Term Stay Rates: While the daily rate is already low, there might be slightly reduced weekly or monthly rates available for those planning extended stays. This is common practice in campgrounds catering to budget-conscious campers.
  • Military Discounts: As it is located within the Redstone Arsenal Recreation Area, there might be specific discounts or preferential rates for military personnel, veterans, or Department of Defense civilians. It is crucial for eligible individuals to inquire about this upon booking.

To confirm the most accurate and current pricing, as well as any specific rates for longer durations or military affiliation, it is essential to contact Easter Posey Recreation Area directly. Their primary focus remains on providing basic utilities at an unbeatable price point rather than complex promotional schemes.

Contact Information

For inquiries about availability, current rates, specific site details, or any questions regarding military access requirements for Easter Posey Recreation Area, please use the following contact details:

  • Address: Redstone Arsenal Recreation Area, Valhermoso Springs, AL 35775, USA
  • Phone: No public phone number consistently provided in available data.
  • Mobile Phone: No public mobile phone number consistently provided in available data.

As is sometimes the case with recreation areas associated with military installations or very budget-focused campgrounds, direct public phone numbers can be scarce. This might involve checking the official Redstone Arsenal MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation) website or contacting a general information line for the base to ascertain visitor policies and any available campground contact numbers for reservations or inquiries.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For Alabamians seeking the most budget-friendly camping option with essential hookups, Easter Posey Recreation Area in Valhermoso Springs is undeniably suitable. Its primary appeal for locals, particularly those in Northern Alabama or with military connections, lies in its incredibly low daily rate for sites offering electric and water. This makes it an ideal choice for:

  • Cost-Conscious Campers: If your priority is to get an RV or trailer parked with utilities at the absolute lowest cost, this campground delivers exceptional value.
  • Long-Term Stays on a Budget: For individuals or families needing an extended place to stay without the high cost of traditional rentals or more expensive RV parks, Easter Posey offers a practical solution.
  • Self-Sufficient Campers: Those who bring their own sanitation solutions and are less reliant on immaculate campground facilities will find the basic hookups perfectly adequate for their needs.

While it is crucial to acknowledge the consistent feedback regarding the cleanliness of the bathhouse facilities and potential noise from non-campers, these are often trade-offs for such a significantly reduced price point. For many Alabamians, the opportunity to access camping with vital hookups for around $12.00 a night outweighs these considerations, especially if they are largely self-contained or prefer to use their own facilities.

It represents a practical option for getting out into the Redstone Arsenal Recreation Area, providing a no-frills, highly affordable base for enjoying the outdoors without a significant financial commitment. For the right camper, Easter Posey Recreation Area offers a valuable and accessible way to experience camping in Alabama.

The bathroom is nasty. The toilet stalls are rusted so bad, that the rust falls everywhere. They have quiet time for the ppl here...but not for anyone else. It not quiet here most of the time. Then you have the bicyclist with there loud talking as if they turned down their hearing aids. Standing in a group in front of bathrooms where you have to drive and make you have to go around them....as if they pay to be there. The weeds are so tall that if it as a bit taller I could loose my dog. But for 12.00 it's cheap with electric and water.

The facilities are mediocre at best as far as cleanliness. Site is cleaned by Phoenix and they never go by the checklist. Dirty lights, walls, toilets....mold in the showers and curtains. It needs a fresh coat of pain and normal in depth cleaning once a week.

Beautiful quiet location right on the Tennessee River. The facilities are aged, no real trails or walkways except along the road. The portapotty was very clean and regularly serviced.

We camped here in a 37 ft fifth wheel. It looked like there were only certain spaces that could accommodate the size. There was a playground for kids and across from the campground is the Tennessee river. It's very secluded and quiet with lots of shade. It takes about 15 minutes to get to gate 10 from this location. RV hookups included 50A/30A electric, and water. Dump station is located on shield road before you turn towards the park. There is a bath house for use as well. Overall it was not a bad stay. There were a good amount of long-timers, but I assume that helps keep the campground open as it's not well known. I will probably stay again.
