Edge Of The River Resort About

For Illinois residents seeking an outdoor escape, the diverse landscapes of the state offer a variety of camping experiences. From serene woodlands to scenic riverbanks, there's a spot for every preference. In Dallas City, Illinois, along the majestic Mississippi River, you'll find Edge Of The River Resort, a campground that promises beautiful views and affordable rates. While it comes with a unique characteristic that's important for campers to note, it offers a distinct opportunity for those looking to enjoy riverside tranquility and stunning sunsets.

Introduction / Overview

Edge Of The River Resort is a campground located in Dallas City, Illinois, prominently situated right on the banks of the Mississippi River. This position offers campers picturesque views, particularly noted for "beautiful sunsets" over the water. The resort provides various camping options, including sites with full hookups (water, electric, and sewer) and promises "the price is right" at just $20 a night for some of these equipped sites. It's described as a place with "wonderful people," suggesting a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for visitors.

However, a significant aspect of staying at Edge Of The River Resort, as highlighted by numerous reviews, is its extreme proximity to "very active train tracks." Campers should be prepared for frequent and loud train passages, with reports of "3-5 trains an hr" throughout the night, causing the "ground shake" and horns to "blast." This detail is crucial for potential visitors, as it significantly impacts the peace and quiet typically associated with camping. The reviews are candid about this, stating, "Unless you can sleep through an apocalypse, this might not be the place for you. If the noise doesn’t bother you then this place is not too bad." Despite the noise, the affordability and riverfront location remain strong draws for those who can tolerate the disruptions.

Location and Accessibility

Edge Of The River Resort is strategically located at 971 W 1st St, Dallas City, IL 62330, USA. This address places it directly on the western side of Dallas City, right along the eastern bank of the Mississippi River. Dallas City is a small community in Hancock County, Illinois, providing a peaceful, rural setting that is characteristic of many riverside towns in the state.

The campground's direct access to the Mississippi River is a major draw, offering opportunities for fishing, boating (with a boat ramp just a quarter-mile away, and boat docks for campers), and enjoying waterfront views. For those traveling with RVs, the location on W 1st Street ensures relatively easy access. While Dallas City itself is a smaller town, it provides basic services, and its position along the Great River Road offers a scenic route for travelers. Larger towns in the vicinity, such as Fort Madison, Iowa (just across the river), or Burlington, Iowa, offer more extensive amenities, including shopping, dining, and healthcare facilities, all within a reasonable driving distance. The combination of a serene river setting and accessibility to nearby towns makes Edge Of The River Resort a convenient stop or destination for Illinois campers, provided they are aware of the unique local soundscape.

  • Friendly Atmosphere: Despite the noise factor, reviews mention "wonderful people," suggesting a welcoming and pleasant environment fostered by the management and possibly fellow campers.
  • Rustic Charm with Essential Amenities: The presence of a shower house and dump station ensures basic comforts, while the overall feel leans towards a more natural and less commercialized camping experience.

It is undeniably a prominent feature of the campground.

  • Open All Year: The campground's year-round operation provides flexibility for campers to visit during different seasons, including quieter periods.

These features combine to offer a unique, budget-friendly, and river-centric camping experience, heavily influenced by its distinctive soundscape.

This place is right next to very active train tracks. It’s so close to those tracks that you can feel the ground shake as they come speeding by blasting their horns. About 3-5 trains an hr came by during our stay all night long. Unless you can sleep through an apocalypse, this might not be the place for you. If the noise doesn’t bother you then this place is not too bad. It’s right on the river. The sunsets are beautiful. Some sites have 50amp now with sewer and water and the price is right, at just $20 a night. If you can handle the extreme noise then give this place a shot.
