Ely Lake Campground is designed for a more traditional, rustic camping experience, focusing on essential amenities that support an off-grid adventure. Here’s what you can expect:
Campsites: The campground offers a variety of sites, many of which provide ample privacy and space. It's important to note that there are no hookups for electricity, water, or sewer at the individual campsites, which naturally deters larger, power-dependent RVs and helps maintain the quiet atmosphere.
Hand Water Pumps: Throughout the campground, you'll find hand water pumps, ensuring access to potable water for drinking and other needs. This traditional approach to water access adds to the authentic camping feel.
Vault Toilets (Outhouses): Restroom facilities consist of clean and maintained vault toilets (outhouses). While not flush toilets, they are a staple of rustic campgrounds and are kept in good order by the park rangers.
No RV Dump Station: For RV users, it’s crucial to remember that there is no RV dump station on-site. Campers with RVs will need to plan accordingly for waste disposal before and after their stay.
Picnic Tables and Grills: Many sites, and certainly the beach area, are equipped with picnic tables and grills, perfect for enjoying outdoor meals and camp cooking.
First-Come, First-Served Sites (with Reservations Recommended): While some sites might be available on a first-come, first-served basis, the campground strongly recommends making reservations at least a week in advance, especially during peak seasons, to secure your preferred spot.
Check-in/Check-out Times: Be aware of the specific check-in time of 5 PM and check-out time of 3 PM, which allows ample time for campers to prepare and depart.

Despite its off-grid nature, Ely Lake Campground boasts several features that enhance the camping experience, focusing on natural beauty and outdoor recreation:
Ely Lake Access: The campground offers direct access to Ely Lake, providing opportunities for fishing and enjoying the serene water. Many campers enjoy bringing their boats (non-motorized or small electric motors recommended due to the quiet nature of the lake) to explore the lake.
Sandy Beach Area: A beautiful sandy beach area offers a perfect spot for relaxation, sunbathing, and enjoying the lakeside ambiance. This area is equipped with picnic tables and grills, making it ideal for a lakeside picnic.
New Playground Equipment (Update May 2025): Recent updates to the campground include the addition of new playground equipment near the beach area. This is a significant enhancement for families with children, providing a dedicated space for kids to play and burn off energy. The beach area itself also appears to have been expanded.
Privacy: Many campsites are well-spaced and designed to offer a good degree of privacy, allowing campers to feel truly immersed in nature without being too close to their neighbors.
Quiet Atmosphere: A defining feature of Ely Lake Campground is its peaceful and quiet environment. The lack of hookups generally keeps larger, noisier RVs away, contributing to a tranquil setting. While some campers may use quiet generators, loud noise is generally not an issue, especially during posted quiet hours.
Park Ranger Presence: The campground is regularly patrolled by park rangers and the Allegan County Sheriff, ensuring safety and adherence to park rules, which contributes to a secure and well-managed environment.
Fishing Opportunities: The lake provides excellent opportunities for fishing, a popular activity among visitors looking to relax and enjoy the water.

As a county-run campground, Ely Lake Campground typically does not offer complex promotional packages or special offers in the same way a private resort might. Its appeal lies in its affordability and its authentic, rustic camping experience. The value here is in the untouched natural beauty, the peace and quiet, and the well-maintained facilities that enable a back-to-basics adventure. The focus is on providing an accessible and enjoyable outdoor experience rather than discounted rates or bundled promotions.
However, the recent addition of playground equipment signifies an ongoing investment in improving the camper experience, particularly for families. While this isn't a direct "promotion," it adds significant value, especially for those with children, making the campground even more appealing for family getaways. The consistent positive reviews highlighting friendly rangers and the serene environment also act as a testament to the inherent value offered by the campground.

Customer Reviews
My wife and I love coming here. It has pumped water and vault toilets so don't expect a power plug at your camp site. The site we use is isolated enough to give us plenty of privacy and the Rangers have been nothing but friendly to us. I will be bringing my boat next time to do some fishing on the lake.
*Update May 2025* They started adding playground equipment to the beach, and appear to have expanded the beach a bit. This will be nice for families with kids. Unfortunately it's right in front of one of our favorite spots, and the added noise will probably keep us at other sites. It's an ok problem to have. Seems like Allegan County Sheriff patrols the park a couple times a day, and there is a Park Ranger we saw driving around. It was pretty quiet this early May trip, only a dozen or so campers. Many running generators (to be expected at an off grid Park) fortunately all but 1 had quiet generators suitable for the environment. And we weren't close to that 1 inconsiderate person. (It was really loud, like a lawn mower for hours). No issues at posted quiet hours though. -------------------------- *Original Review* This little off-grid county run campground is a hidden jewel. There's no hookups at all, which keeps the bigger rigs away mostly it seems. There are outhouses and hand water pumps throughout the campground. There are no dump stations for RVs. There is a beach area with picnic tables and a grill. Check-out is 3pm, Check-in is 5p. Sites are first come, first served. I recommend making reservations at least a week in advance.
Beautiful! Very rustic so come prepared! Only a vault toliet, no showers. Limited running water.
I tend to camp alone and this is one of the few places I will not do that. I've driven through a couple of times and have seen some sketchy looking campers. It's a shame, because it's a beautiful rustic park.
There is a great trail around the lake that makes for an enjoyable walk. It's just over a mile all together. You can bring your dog, needs to be on a leash. Campsites placed all around the lake and appear to be well kept. We plan to come back to camp! It's 17/night from what we saw posted.
