The park prides itself on being well-maintained and providing a secure setting within the confines of Altus Air Force Base. While it might be one of the smaller FamCamps in the military system, its accessibility to base facilities and its quiet nature make it a highly desirable option for its authorized users. It’s a testament to the support provided to those who serve and have served, offering a comfortable and affordable lodging solution in Altus.
FamCamp is strategically located directly on Altus Air Force Base in Altus, Oklahoma. This prime on-base location offers unparalleled convenience for authorized users, providing immediate access to the services and security of a military installation.
The address for FamCamp is Altus, OK, USA, specifically within the Altus Air Force Base perimeter. For those driving to the base, directions are typically provided from major interstates. For instance, from I-44, visitors would take exit 39 West onto US-62 for approximately 51 miles to reach the base. Upon arriving in Altus, N Veterans Drive North leads to E Falcon Road, where a right turn (East) leads to the main gate. From I-40, take exit 20 South onto US-283 for about 48 miles, then take Falcon Road East to the main gate.
Once through the main gate, visitors are advised to follow the traffic circle counterclockwise for a quarter turn onto First Street, which is the first street on the right. Go South on First Street to the first building on the right, which is Outdoor Recreation (and Auto Hobby). This is where campers pay for their site. After checking in, return North on First Street to the traffic circle, taking the second turn on the opposite side. Continue past the Commissary and turn left onto F Street, heading West to Altus Road. A left turn onto Altus Road, going South, will lead to FamCamp, which is conveniently located near the main gate.
It is crucial to note that as FamCamp is on an active military installation, access is restricted to authorized users (Active Duty, National Guard, Reservists, Retired Military, 0-100% DAV, Purple Heart Recipients, Former POW, Veteran Caregivers, DoD/NAF Civilians). Visitors will need proper identification and may be subject to security procedures to gain base access. Those without direct base access, such as sponsored guests, may need to go through the Visitor Control Center. It's always best to verify current base access policies by contacting the Altus Air Force Base Visitor Center before arrival.

- Proximity to Base Amenities: A major advantage of staying at FamCamp is the immediate access to a wide array of base facilities. This includes the Commissary for groceries, the Exchange for shopping, and other services such as the base library and Shoppette.
- Laundry Access: While FamCamp itself may not have dedicated laundry facilities within the immediate campground area, guests can typically access laundry facilities available at base lodging or other designated areas on the installation. In some cases, a base access card from lodging may be required.
- Pet-Friendly: FamCamp welcomes pets, although specific rules regarding leashing and cleanup are expected to be followed. This makes it a convenient option for military families traveling with their animal companions.

FamCamp at Altus Air Force Base, while perhaps more compact than some larger civilian campgrounds, offers several distinct features and highlights that make it a valuable resource for its authorized users in Oklahoma.
- On-Base Security and Convenience: Being located within Altus Air Force Base provides an inherent level of security and unparalleled convenience. Guests have direct access to all base amenities, including the Commissary and Exchange, which are often just a short walk or drive from the campsites. This allows for easy resupply and access to services without leaving the secure confines of the base.
- Small and Peaceful Atmosphere: With approximately 12 RV hookups, FamCamp is described as a small, quiet, and underutilized campground. This intimate setting contributes to a peaceful atmosphere, ideal for those seeking a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle. The concrete pads offer a neat and organized layout, and there is a fair amount of space between sites, ensuring a sense of privacy.
- Big Rig Friendly: The concrete pads are designed to accommodate large RVs and fifth wheels, making it easy for even the biggest rigs to navigate and set up. Reviews often highlight the ease of navigating the main gate barriers with larger vehicles.
- Value for Authorized Users: FamCamps across the military system are known for providing excellent value. The nightly rates are typically very affordable, making it a budget-friendly option for military personnel and their families.
- Local Wildlife Sightings: While not a guaranteed feature, some anecdotal reports from similar military campgrounds suggest the occasional sighting of local wildlife, adding to the natural ambiance. Although one review mistakenly referred to deer and an emu, that specific experience was at a different park. However, being in a somewhat rural area, local wildlife can still be a pleasant surprise.
- Year-Round Operation: FamCamp is open year-round, allowing for camping opportunities regardless of the season, catering to both summer adventurers and winter travelers.
As a military campground, FamCamp at Altus Air Force Base typically operates on a standardized pricing structure that offers inherent value to its authorized users. While specific, ongoing "promotions" in the commercial sense (like "buy one night, get one free") are less common, the pricing itself is a significant benefit.
However, it's always advisable for potential guests to directly contact FamCamp at Altus Air Force Base for the most current information regarding rates and any possible seasonal adjustments or incentives. Military campgrounds sometimes have tiered pricing based on rank, active duty status, or length of stay, which can act as a form of special offer. For example, some FamCamps might offer slightly reduced rates for extended stays (weekly or monthly) compared to nightly rates.
It is also worth inquiring about:
- Peak vs. Non-Peak Season Rates: Rates can vary depending on the time of year, with lower prices often available during the off-peak season.
- Reservation Policies: While not a promotion, understanding reservation policies (e.g., booking window for active duty vs. retirees) can help secure a desired spot, especially during busy times.
- Any Package Deals: Though rare for FamCamps, sometimes recreational facilities on base might offer bundled deals that could indirectly benefit campers.
The core "special offer" of FamCamp remains its exclusive access and affordable rates for the military community, which already represents a significant saving compared to many civilian RV parks. To ensure you have the most accurate and up-to-date information on pricing and any specific benefits for your eligibility category, contacting FamCamp directly is the best course of action.

Customer Reviews
We have travel th and country and this is by far the best place were had th re pleasure to stay. Everything from laundry to tennis courts. Deer wander the park and they even have a resident emu they've named frank. Were hoping to make it our winter home. Opps wrong camp but if your ever in bandera Texas the farm country rv park is the place to stay. Sorry for the mistake.
If I were to estimate there's probably only 12 RV hookups being that I'm on Altus Air Force base all the time working
ONLY POWER (30amp was not operational) AND WATER. Not at all impressed with this park. Was told we could shower at the fitness facility, since there are not facilities on site. However, the fitness facility is not open 24hrs. Additionally, there are no staff on site nor on call. Lastly, no control on who goes to what site. We arrived to find our site taken. Not worth the money. Very disappointed!
Obviously you have access to the base facilities and the rec center offers rentable items like volleyball and different outdoor games but there is not anything here in the campground. Very small maybe around 10 spaces. It is at the front gate so lots of traffic.
This is the worst family camp I have ever seen on a base. Its situated by the main gate and although its close to the commissary and the BX, it is basically just a parking lot. The lots are limited as most people are long term residents that are stationed at Altus. There is no maximim time they can stay in a spot so good luck getting a spot. They do not reserve spots either. Its first come forst serve. You will pay $550 a month to basically live in a parking lot. There are no hardened shelters or shower facilities. All the campers are stacked on top of each other with minimal parking.
