Quartz Mountain Group Camp About

For us Oklahomans, getting out into nature, especially with a large group of friends, family, or an organization, is a cherished tradition. We often seek out places that provide both the beauty of our state's landscapes and the facilities necessary to accommodate a sizable gathering. Quartz Mountain Group Camp, nestled within the expansive Quartz Mountain State Park in southwest Oklahoma, is a designated facility specifically designed to cater to these larger groups. It offers a unique opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the area, particularly the stunning Lake Altus-Lugert and the rugged Quartz Mountains, in a communal setting.

This isn't your typical individual campsite; it's a dedicated group camp that provides a more structured and equipped environment for big gatherings. Imagine having a central hub with a commercial kitchen, dining hall, and sleeping quarters, all surrounded by individual cabins for your group members. This setup makes it ideal for reunions, youth camps, retreats, or any large assembly looking for a comfortable and functional base camp for their outdoor adventures in Oklahoma.

However, like any state park facility, understanding the specifics of its operation, particularly regarding parking and amenities, is crucial for a smooth and enjoyable visit. While the natural surroundings offer immense relaxation and recreational opportunities, being prepared for the practicalities ensures that your group's experience is as stress-free as possible. This article aims to provide a clear, factual overview of Quartz Mountain Group Camp, helping fellow Oklahomans plan their next memorable group outing.

Location and Accessibility

Quartz Mountain Group Camp is located on an Unnamed Road in Lone Wolf, OK 73655, USA, placing it squarely within the scenic Quartz Mountain State Park. This positioning is a significant advantage for Oklahomans, as it provides direct access to one of our state's most distinctive natural areas. The park cradles the shores of Lake Altus-Lugert, a popular destination for boating, fishing, and water sports, meaning your group will be just steps away from abundant recreational opportunities on the water.

The park itself is renowned for its unique geology, featuring rugged granite outcroppings and the impressive Baldy Point, which offers opportunities for hiking and rock climbing. While the address might seem generic ("Unnamed Road"), it signifies that the group camp is an integral part of the larger state park system, benefiting from its infrastructure and natural attractions.

Accessibility to Quartz Mountain State Park is generally straightforward. It's situated in southwest Oklahoma, accessible via state highways like OK-44. While Lone Wolf is a smaller town, the park is a well-established destination, and signage typically guides visitors. It's important to note that as a state park, specific rules and fees, such as parking passes, apply to vehicles entering and utilizing park facilities. While paid lodging and campsite reservations within the park include a parking pass for one passenger vehicle, visitors parking outside their designated areas, such as across the street for fishing, may be subject to parking fees or fines if a pass is not displayed. This is a crucial detail for group members who might arrive in multiple vehicles or explore different areas of the park. Despite this, the overall location offers a fantastic blend of natural beauty and recreational access for Oklahomans seeking a group outdoor experience.

Features / Highlights

This dedicated design is a significant highlight for groups.
  • Full Commercial Kitchen: The presence of a commercial-grade kitchen, fully stocked with cookware, dishes, utensils, a freezer, and a refrigerator, is an exceptional feature. This makes meal preparation for large numbers incredibly efficient and convenient, a rare find in many campground settings.
  • Air-Conditioned Cabins: The 10 surrounding cabins, equipped with bunk beds and air conditioning, offer a comfortable sleeping environment, especially during Oklahoma's warmer months. While heating isn't provided, the A/C is a welcome amenity for summer visits.
  • Centralized Amenities: The central community building with its dining hall and kitchen, along with the conveniently located central bathhouse, creates a cohesive and functional layout for group interaction and comfort.

It is important to acknowledge a critical operational highlight and consideration:

  • Oklahoma State Park Parking Pass Requirement: This is a significant point for visitors. While staying at the group camp provides a parking pass for one vehicle for the duration of the reservation, any additional vehicles, or vehicles parked outside the designated group camp area (e.g., across the street for fishing), will require a separate Oklahoma State Park parking pass. Failure to display this pass can result in a $20 ticket. This policy, which applies to all Oklahoma State Parks, is enforced to help fund park improvements and resource preservation. Locals should be aware of this to avoid unexpected fines.

Promotions or Special Offers

As Quartz Mountain Group Camp is a facility within an Oklahoma State Park, its pricing and any 'special offers' are typically structured differently than private campgrounds. The primary pricing model for the group camp is a flat fee per night, covering a certain number of guests, with an additional charge for any guests exceeding that number. Specifically, the fees are $400.00 per night for the first 50 guests, with an additional $3.00 for each guest over 50 sleeping overnight. There is also an option to rent just the Community Building without overnight accommodation for $120.00.

Regarding other promotions, Oklahoma State Parks offer specific discounts on parking passes, which is relevant to any visit to Quartz Mountain. Oklahoma residents aged 62 and older, as well as honorably discharged veterans who are residents of Oklahoma, receive free parking passes (100% discount) upon eligibility verification. Additionally, vehicles with an Oklahoma or Oklahoma tribal license plate receive a 20% discount on parking passes. It's crucial to remember that while the group camp reservation typically includes a parking pass for one vehicle, additional vehicles or parking outside the designated group camp area will require separate passes, which these discounts could apply to.

For the most up-to-date information on availability for group camp bookings, any specific seasonal rates, or details on how to apply for parking pass discounts, it is always best to contact Quartz Mountain State Park directly.

The cabins are basic we had mens boot camp up there where most men didn't have "Oklahoma state park" parking passes so we was all received 20 dollar tickets when we all park across the street to fish within 20 mins no mercy no warnings just fine. You are covered at the group cabins but not if you park anywhere else this really discourages me from really ever coming back here. I encourage everyone that reads this go somewhere else.
