Sites #2, #5, and #17 provide 50-amp service, while the remaining sites are 30-amp, catering to various RV needs. Each electric site includes a grill, fire ring, picnic table, and lantern post for a comfortable stay.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a facility managed by the U.S. Forest Service within the Wayne National Forest, Leith Run Recreation Area & Campground operates under federal guidelines for fees and discounts. While it doesn't typically offer seasonal promotions in the commercial sense, there are specific federal pass programs that provide significant savings for eligible campers.

  • Interagency Passes: The most common and valuable discounts come through the America the Beautiful – National Parks & Federal Recreational Lands Pass Series. This includes:
  • Senior Pass (for U.S. citizens or permanent residents 62 years and older): Provides a 50 percent discount on single campsites at Leith Run.
  • Access Pass (for U.S. citizens or permanent residents with permanent disabilities): Also offers a 50 percent discount on single campsites.
  • Annual Pass: While it doesn't offer camping discounts, it covers entrance fees at other federal sites. However, Wayne National Forest generally does not have entrance fees.
  • Affordable Standard Rates: Even without a pass, the standard camping fees are designed to be affordable. Electric sites are $20/night, and non-electric tent sites are $15/night, making it a budget-friendly option for many Ohioans.
  • Group Shelter Rentals: While not a discount, the option to reserve picnic shelters for $55 per day offers excellent value for groups looking to host events or family gatherings, with included electricity and amenities.

It's always recommended to check the official Wayne National Forest website or Recreation.gov for the most current fee schedules and to confirm eligibility for any federal pass discounts before planning your trip. Reservations, especially during peak season, are highly recommended to secure your preferred site.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For us Ohioans, Leith Run Recreation Area & Campground offers a compelling blend of accessibility, natural beauty, and functional amenities, making it an ideal destination for a local outdoor escape. Its location within the beloved Wayne National Forest, directly on the Ohio River, taps into the very essence of what makes outdoor recreation in our state so special.

The reviews from fellow campers truly capture its local appeal. The sentiment that "Everytime I'm there the place had been well taken care of. Very nice small spot to stop for a quick get away weekend" speaks directly to the desire for a well-maintained, manageable campground for spontaneous trips. This isn't a sprawling, overwhelming resort; it’s a more intimate setting where peace and quiet are often found, allowing for genuine relaxation.

While one review noted some "lacking in facilities" for specific RV needs (electric only, no water/sewer hookups at site), it also highlighted "fairly large spots and nice location along the river." This candid feedback is valuable for locals who understand the nature of national forest campgrounds. Many Ohio campers are accustomed to varying levels of amenities and prioritize the natural setting and privacy over full hookups at every site. The presence of a dump station and modern restrooms with showers (even if limited) still provides a good balance for most RV and tent campers seeking an authentic experience.

The consistent praise for the campground being "quiet" and "well kept" reinforces its suitability for locals looking to unplug. The "minimal connectivity," as mentioned, is often a desired feature for those looking to truly get away from digital distractions and enjoy quality time with family and friends. Furthermore, the extensive recreational opportunities, from fishing in the Ohio River to hiking the scenic trails within the Wayne National Forest, cater directly to the outdoor pursuits favored by Ohioans. It’s a place where we can easily access stunning natural landscapes, engage in our favorite activities, and return to a comfortable, well-cared-for basecamp. Leith Run is truly a hidden gem, providing that perfect blend of nature and convenience for an authentic Ohio camping adventure.

It was okay. Fairly large spots and nice location along the river. But somewhat lacking in facilities. If you were in tents, there were 2 pit toilets and one flush toilet (and one shower). If you were in an RV, it was electric only at site, no water or sewer. And a minimal dump station So somehow didn't cater to either? And being in a Nation Forest, minimal connectivity. Overall a site with promise that needs more investment.

The camper host was exactly what one should be: accommodating, helpful and friendly, known as "camp mom." This is her last year there. The site is one that we would be content never leaving, watching the river only feet from our site, we could fish any time we wanted. The trail head to the scenic overlook trail was easy to get to and an amazing hike! Saw two snakes and a turtle in the 6 mile round trip hike. Camp itself was small and quiet. Shower was huge and clean. We will be back!

We were really surprised at this campground when we arrived. The campground is in excellent condition. Well maintained. It won't be for everyone because it is 30 amp electric only at RV sites. Water is available when you arrive to fill your freshwater tank. A dump station is available too. Showers are available but we preferred our own. Some sites are right on the Ohio river. Bring your honey wagon if staying for an extended time (max 14 days)

Small campground right on Ohio River. Our site, 9, was paved and level making for an easy set up. Charcoal grills and campfire rings. Choice of pit toilets or modern amenities. Push button shower with no temp control. Nice views of river, saw and heard barges passing. Fair amount of road noise, mostly from across river. Short Nature trails and boardwalk to potential wildlife viewing. No beavers appeared for me. Access from campground to Scenic River and Green Wood mountain bike trails. Playground. Canoe launch.
