Lane Farm Campground About
For Ohioans seeking a back-to-basics camping experience amidst the tranquil beauty of nature, Lane Farm Campground in Marietta, Ohio, offers a compelling option. Situated within the picturesque Wayne National Forest, this small, primitive campground provides a serene escape from the complexities of everyday life. It's a place where the focus shifts from elaborate amenities to the natural surroundings – the gentle flow of the Little Muskingum River, the shade of a walnut plantation, and the quiet sounds of the forest.
Lane Farm Campground is managed by the USDA Forest Service and is designed for campers who appreciate simplicity and a more rugged outdoor adventure. It's a pay site now, but it still maintains a very affordable nightly fee. While some recent community feedback has raised concerns about maintenance and safety, it's important to understand the intended purpose and natural setting of this type of campground. It caters to those who are comfortable with fewer facilities and are looking for a genuine connection with the outdoors. This article will provide a factual overview of Lane Farm Campground, detailing its location, the services it offers, and what makes it a suitable choice for local Ohioans who cherish a peaceful and unadorned camping experience.
Lane Farm Campground is uniquely positioned approximately 5 miles north of Marietta, Ohio, along the National Forest Covered Bridge Scenic Byway. The address is Marietta, OH 45750, USA, indicating its presence within the general Marietta area, but its specific placement within the Wayne National Forest is key. This location offers a delightful blend of accessibility to a historic Ohio city and immersion in a natural forest environment.
For Ohioans, reaching Lane Farm Campground involves a scenic drive. From Interstate 77, campers can take Exit 1 (S.R. #7) towards Marietta, then turn right onto Acme Street (the first light), which ends at Greene Street. A right turn on Greene Street (S.R. 26) leads directly to the campground, approximately 5 miles outside of Marietta. This well-defined route ensures relatively easy access for vehicles, including those with tents or small campers. The fact that it's along a "Covered Bridge Scenic Byway" further enhances the journey, offering picturesque views even before arriving at the campsite. The proximity to Marietta means that while you're enjoying a primitive camping experience, you're never too far from essential supplies, dining options, and the rich historical attractions of Ohio's oldest city. This balance of seclusion and convenience makes Lane Farm Campground an excellent choice for a quick natural getaway or a longer exploration of Southeastern Ohio.
As a primitive campground managed by the USDA Forest Service, Lane Farm Campground focuses on providing basic necessities for camping rather than extensive amenities. Campers should be prepared for a more self-sufficient experience.
- Campsites: The campground features four designated campsites along the Little Muskingum River. These sites are designed for tent camping, though smaller campers may also fit with strategic parking.

- Lantern Poles: Campsites also feature lantern poles, useful for hanging lanterns to illuminate your camp.
- Vault Toilets: A vault toilet (also known as a pit toilet) is available on-site. While not a flush toilet, it provides a basic restroom facility. Recent feedback suggests they are relatively clean and well-stocked.
- River Access: The campground offers direct access to the Little Muskingum River, making it suitable for fishing, wildlife viewing, and potentially canoe access.
- No Potable Water: It is crucial to note that potable (drinking) water is NOT available at this site. Campers must bring their own water supply.

- Fee Site: The campground is a pay site, with a fee of $10 per night.

- No Discounts Explicitly Stated: No specific discounts (e.g., for seniors, military, or multiple nights) are publicly advertised. The low base fee is the primary value offering.
Campers should be aware of the "pay site" status and be prepared to pay the nightly fee upon arrival. Information regarding payment methods is typically available on-site or through the Wayne National Forest website. Customer Reviews
This place is now a pay site.vthe maintenance had seriously declined as moving now leaves blind spots for addicts and crime to hide. Not advisable for single ladies as predators
Used the area as a rest stop as we rode the bikes. Good spot to rest. There was a restroom there as well. Noticed people across the parking lot setting up tents.
More of a rest area than a campground, well maintained, very near the road. Mostly local traffic, several covered bridges in the area.
Very clean and well maintained campground only 5 sites and a pit toilet. Its an honor system 10.00 a night drop box. We had the whole place to ourself.
Great little spot to stop for the night. $10.00 cash/ night.
