Customer Reviews
This place is absolutely beautiful! Huge park! Did not expect so much at a veteran state park. Traveling alone or with someone you will not be disappointed. The grounds are kept very clean, the campground, if camping, is lovely right at the water! Another visit is on the horizon. The city's folk ate very welcoming. Nearby shopping and dining. Oh, swimming, golfing, fishing and so much more🤗
The Campground was excellent. Everyone was so friendly. Our host made sure we had everything we needed. So much to do. Enjoyed the fishing very relaxing. The husband and I are already planning the next trip.
We were tent camping. The pads are small pebbles and well maintained, but it's a bit firm for a tent. The scenery was BEAUTIFUL - tall trees and the gorgeous water views!! There was music at the Cypress Grill both nights we stayed that started up around 9pm and was so loud at the campground. Thankfully our kiddos were so tired it didn't keep them up, but it was right at bedtime and very distracting. Then, a garbage truck camp to dump the dumpsters around 7:30am. The bath houses were very well maintained, but the camp host on our loop side seemed uninteresting in being social. We saw them riding around on gold carts, but they didn't seem as friendly as other campgrounds where the hosts introduce themselves, ask about your stay, or at least say hi. I don't think we'd camp there in a tent again.
We went the first week in August and stayed at the campground with our 3 kids. The campground is quiet, restrooms clean and lots of shade. The only downfall are the gnats, but it’s summer in S. Georgia, those are to be expected. My in-laws stayed at the cabins which were close (about half a mile from the campground). We rented a golf cart from the visitors center to go from the campground to the cabin throughout the day and to let the older kids “sight see”. The cabins are awesome with a fireplace, full kitchen, dishes, fireplace (which would be cool in the winter), very nice playground is also near the cabins. The restaurant on site at the marina had great food and drinks, the pizzas are HUGE, burgers not too greasy, best catfish my father in law has ever had. There were also deer all around which my kids loved watching to see where they would pop up at. All in all we enjoyed ourselves and will return. Hopefully the villas will be open then so we can stay in one of those.
We camped here during Christmas and it was empty and completely unique experience. The lakeside camping views are incredible and we basically had it to ourselves. It’s cool too because there is a nice trail and the airplanes and tanks on-site, as well as the restaurant in case you get tired of cooking. The sites are super random in their placement, spacing, and angles, so your experience will vary from site to site. We had site 17 because it was close to the playground. But 15 and 16 are like eight feet apart and I would not be thrilled if I was that close to someone I didn’t know. WiFi didn’t work. Verizon coverage was decent enough. We loved being so close to Americus and Plains for all the history.
