Happy Campers Campground is ideally situated at 5380 Croton Dr, Newaygo, MI 49337, placing it in a prime location for outdoor adventures in West Michigan. This address puts campers in the immediate vicinity of some of the region's most popular natural attractions, particularly the Croton Dam and the Muskegon River.
The campground's exceptional accessibility is one of its biggest draws. It’s described as being "super close to the Croton Dam," which means easy access for swimming, kayaking, and enjoying the Croton Pond. For river enthusiasts, public access to the Muskegon River is just below the Croton Dam, and there's public access to Croton Pond above the dam, both within approximately 3/4 of a mile from the campground. Furthermore, there's even a canoe, kayak, and tube rental business located just across the street from Happy Campers Campground, simplifying water activities even further.
Beyond the immediate waterfront, the campground is surrounded by an impressive 350 acres of state land. This vast natural area provides endless opportunities for hiking and biking, catering to the adventurous members of any family or group. Customer Reviews
Really nice camp ground. People were nice and we pretty much had the back area to ourselves. Super close to the croton dam so we could swim and kayak. Vault toilets were horrendously stinky but so we're the parks vault toilets, so can't fault them for that. Plus they had Porta potties nearby to use.
We love Happy Campers! We have a large group of people that go every year for our Annual Friends tubing trip. The owners are amazing. They have been working hard on making improvements. We are all already planning next year's trip. Keep up the hard work!
We stayed 3 nights in September and it was amazing. Tons of trees and nature. We were the only guests and had ultimate privacy during our stay. The out houses were clean and the electricity at our site was newer. The owners were so sweet and accommodating.
We've been coming here for a few years now. There are always new improvements being done. We just love the secluded feel. It is close to a main road, but there is much nature to be had as well. Great fishing, great trails. Its truly a remarkable area. This happens to be one of our favorite campgrounds. It's more rustic than the others (some electric sites, and out houses). There's more space between sites. The staff are friendly. We will keep coming back!!
First and foremost the staff was extremely pleasant! Unfortunately, the lack of shower and real restrooms makes for a less than decent stay. As a backpacker I would have rather saved the $20 and hiked a mile on to the trail to camp for free. And let me stress here, the bathroom was disgusting. I would rather have a porta-potty. It is a hole in the ground with a raised toilet seat, the smell is horrendous and the bug situation is awful. I convinced myself that I could handle the stall but when I opened the lid about 15 bugs came flying out and I left. So, although the staff is very very nice, I would not stay again nor can I recommend.
