Hello, Wisconsin wilderness seekers! Are you longing for a camping experience that truly allows you to disconnect, immerse yourself in nature, and enjoy unparalleled peace and quiet? If "roughing it" sounds like your ideal getaway, then Himley Lake Campsites in Pickerel, Wisconsin, might just be the perfect destination for you. This hidden gem offers a genuinely rustic and secluded camping adventure, far from the hustle and bustle of crowded campgrounds.
Himley Lake Campsites stands out for its commitment to providing an unadulterated outdoor experience. Imagine a place where there are only two campsites, each so well-hidden that they aren't even visible to each other – ensuring ultimate privacy and tranquility. This is not the place for glamping or resort-style amenities; instead, it's a haven for those who appreciate the raw beauty of the Wisconsin wilderness. As one satisfied camper put it, it's a "great place if you like roughing it." The focus here is on the natural surroundings, the serene lake, and the quiet contemplation that only true seclusion can offer.
Himley Lake Campsites is located on an Unnamed Road in Pickerel, WI 54465, USA. Pickerel is a small community situated in Langlade County, Wisconsin, an area renowned for its abundant lakes, forests, and outdoor recreational opportunities. While the address indicates an "Unnamed Road," this often signifies a more remote and less developed access point, which aligns with the campground's rustic nature.
To reach these secluded sites, it will likely involve navigating smaller, perhaps unpaved, roads once you are close to the destination. It's crucial for visitors to have accurate directions (potentially from the management or a very detailed map) before venturing out, as GPS might be unreliable in such remote areas. The "50 ft. off the lake" access makes it easy to launch a kayak directly from the site, and the mention of a "boat launch down the next trail right by the two sights" suggests convenient access for larger paddlecraft or small boats. The remote location ensures incredible quiet and a true escape into the Northwoods, making it a fantastic destination for Wisconsinites who crave genuine wilderness immersion.
Himley Lake Campsites is characterized by its minimalist and rustic approach to camping, focusing on the natural environment rather than extensive amenities. Based on customer reviews, here are the core "services" offered:
Given the extremely rustic and minimalist nature of Himley Lake Campsites, it is highly unlikely that they offer traditional "promotions" or "special offers" in the way a commercial campground might. The inherent "offer" of Himley Lake Campsites is its unique value proposition: unparalleled seclusion, quiet, and a truly primitive camping experience at what is likely a very affordable rate, if any formal booking fee is involved.
Since this is a very basic, off-grid location, the pricing (if any) is likely set at a low, flat rate per night, reflecting the absence of amenities. Potential campers interested in staying here should contact the relevant local forestry or park management (as it is likely part of a county or state forest system given its undeveloped nature) to inquire about any necessary permits, reservation procedures, or applicable fees. It is always best to confirm directly with the managing authority regarding any costs associated with using these highly secluded sites.
Due to the rustic and potentially informal nature of Himley Lake Campsites as described, direct contact information like a formal phone number or website dedicated solely to these two campsites might not be readily available in the same way as a commercial campground. The provided phone number is general for the area, and for a specific site like this, it's often managed by a county or state forestry department.
Important Note for Contact: Given that the address is an "Unnamed Road" and reviews suggest a very informal setup ("toilet seat mounted to a box"), it is highly probable that these campsites are managed by the Langlade County Forestry and Recreation Department or the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
Recommended Action for Contact: Potential campers should search for and contact the Langlade County Forestry and Recreation Department or the Wisconsin DNR for Pickerel/Langlade County area camping to inquire about Himley Lake Campsites specifically. They would be the official source for reservations, permits, directions, and any current information regarding these rustic sites. Using the general phone number provided might lead to a local information center, but the official managing body is the best bet.
Himley Lake Campsites is uniquely suitable for Wisconsin locals who truly embrace the "roughing it" philosophy and seek an unparalleled level of seclusion and peace in their outdoor adventures. For those residing in or near the Northwoods, it offers a convenient and accessible escape that feels worlds away from civilization. The primary appeal lies in its extreme privacy – with only two widely separated sites – ensuring that campers can fully disconnect and immerse themselves in the natural environment of Himley Lake.
This campground is perfect for local paddle sports enthusiasts, kayakers, and canoeists, given the easy lake access directly from the campsites and the suitability of Himley Lake for such activities. While modern amenities like water and electricity are absent, and the toilet facilities are primitive, this is precisely what appeals to seasoned campers and those looking for a truly authentic, off-grid experience. For Wisconsinites who value quiet reflection, natural beauty, and the challenge of self-sufficient camping over creature comforts, Himley Lake Campsites offers an exceptional and memorable retreat, providing a deep connection to the wild heart of their home state.

Great place if you like roughing it. Very quiet and only two sights which are not even visible to each other. No water or electric but there is a toilet seat mounted to a box over a hole for your business. Very large sites could easily have two good size campers with plenty of space to still move around. 50 ft. off the lake makes it easy to launch a kayak. Plus there is a boat launch down the next trail right by the two sights.
Sep 10, 2021 · Gene BeaumiaI visited this site summer 2015, the campsite and lake are beautiful and the lake is excellent for paddle sports. I was put off by it's incredible clarity though, the water was so clear and calm that you could see all the debris on the lake bed, but it was covered with a uniform grey layer of silt that gives the lake a very eerie quality. I had no luck fishing either.
Nov 16, 2016 · David JanzenThe campsites are nicely sized with easy access to the water. The sites are far enough from each other for privacy. Water was clear. Not very deep but excellent for floating and fishing.
Jul 25, 2019 · Nina LoweryNo toilet. No water. Road going in sketchy. Random strangers in your camp at 2am. Had to scare them off with the 9mm. Lots of drug paraphernalia around.
Sep 28, 2023 · Jason NicksLaunched our yaks and spent the afternoon soothing our souls. Very clear lake, clean. The campsites were well maintained and also clean.
