Ho-Humm Canoe Rental & Campground About
For many Missourians, a float trip down one of the state's beautiful rivers is a quintessential summer experience, and finding the right base camp for that adventure is key. Ho-Humm Canoe Rental & Campground, located near Lebanon, MO, on the scenic Niangua River, has been a go-to destination for over 15 years for many loyal campers and floaters. This establishment embodies a more rustic, authentic Ozarks experience, focusing on direct river access and a friendly, family-run atmosphere.
Managed by Clint and his wife Sherry, Ho-Humm is known for its personal touch and dedication to providing a genuine outdoor escape. While some may find its off-the-beaten-path location charmingly secluded, it's certainly a place that caters to those seeking a less commercialized, more traditional camping and floating experience. Recent improvements, such as a new shower house, indicate their commitment to enhancing guest comfort while maintaining the park's characteristic charm. Ho-Humm prides itself on offering the unique convenience of floating directly back to the campground, eliminating the wait for a bus shuttle – a significant perk for any weary floater. It's a place where long-term regulars are common, fostering a tight-knit community feel for those who appreciate its unique blend of simplicity and adventure in the heart of Missouri.
Ho-Humm Canoe Rental & Campground is situated at 30651 Marigold Dr, Lebanon, MO 65536, USA. This address places it within reach of Lebanon, a city in Laclede County that serves as a gateway to the central Missouri Ozarks. The campground's location on the Niangua River is a significant draw, as this spring-fed river is a popular destination for floating and fishing.
However, it is crucial for prospective visitors from Missouri to understand the accessibility of Ho-Humm. As noted in a customer review, the campground is "so far off the main roads, dirt road for miles and miles." This implies a journey that requires navigating unpaved roads, which might be challenging for some vehicles, especially during or after inclement weather. The reviewer also mentioned that the "roadway into the campground was not even wide enough for 2 campers to pass safely," suggesting careful driving is essential upon approach.
This remote location is a double-edged sword: while it contributes to a secluded and peaceful atmosphere for some, it can be a significant hurdle for others. For locals accustomed to paved roads and easy access, this is an important consideration. It indicates that Ho-Humm is best suited for those prepared for a more rugged drive, prioritizing an off-grid experience and the unique benefit of direct river float-back over immediate highway convenience. Before heading out, it is highly advisable to check weather conditions and consider the capabilities of your vehicle for unpaved roads.
Ho-Humm Canoe Rental & Campground focuses on providing essential services that enhance the traditional camping and floating experience. While it maintains a rustic charm, recent upgrades indicate a commitment to improving guest comfort. Based on customer reviews and typical offerings for similar establishments on Missouri rivers, the following services are available:
-
Camping Sites:
Primitive campsites are available, which are likely designed for tent camping. The review mentioning "sites are right on top of each other" suggests a more communal camping layout in some areas. -
Canoe Rental:
As part of its name, canoe rentals are a primary service, facilitating float trips down the Niangua River. -
Float Trip Service:
A key highlight is the ability to "float back to the campground instead of waiting for a bus to run you back," indicating that the take-out point for their float trips is conveniently located at the campground itself. -
Shower House:
A "new shower house" is a confirmed amenity, providing clean and updated facilities for campers to freshen up. -
Restroom Facilities:
Standard for campgrounds, restrooms would be available, likely in conjunction with the shower house. -
Picnic Tables and Fire Rings:
These are typical amenities at campsites, allowing for outdoor meals and campfires, though not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews.
It's important to note the negative review mentioned lack of Wi-Fi. While not explicitly stated in positive reviews or general information, the remote location and focus on a rustic experience suggest that services like Wi-Fi or extensive electrical hookups for RVs might be limited or not a primary feature. Visitors should plan for a more unplugged experience.
Ho-Humm Canoe Rental & Campground, despite some challenges, offers several distinctive features and highlights that appeal to a specific kind of outdoor enthusiast in Missouri:
-
Direct Float-Back Access:
This is a significant advantage for floaters. The ability to "float back to the campground instead of waiting for a bus to run you back" means less logistical hassle and more time enjoying the river and campsite immediately after your trip. -
Authentic, Rustic Ozarks Experience:
For those who prefer a less commercialized and more natural camping environment, Ho-Humm offers a genuine taste of the Missouri wilderness, away from major crowds. -
Family-Owned and Operated:
The campground is run by Clint and Sherry, fostering a personal touch and a sense of consistent, reliable management over "15 or more years." This often translates to a more intimate and welcoming atmosphere. -
New Shower House:
The recent addition of a "nice" new shower house indicates an investment in guest comfort and cleanliness, a valued amenity for any camper. -
Loyal Customer Base:
The fact that many campers seem to be "regulars or long timers" suggests a community of repeat visitors who appreciate the park's specific charm and consistency. -
Secluded Location:
While a challenge for some, the miles of dirt road lead to a truly secluded spot, offering a greater sense of escape and connection with nature for those who prioritize privacy over immediate accessibility.
As a family-owned and operated business, Ho-Humm Canoe Rental & Campground may not typically offer extensive, publicly advertised promotions in the same way larger, corporate chains do. Their pricing structure often relies on straightforward rates for camping and canoe rentals. However, consistent "special offers" often come in the form of their inherent value propositions and the loyalty benefits for returning customers:
-
Loyalty for Repeat Visitors:
While not a formal discount, the strong base of "regulars or long timers" suggests that consistency in service and a welcoming atmosphere act as an implicit "promotion" for those who return year after year. The owners, Clint and Sherry, knowing their regular clientele often leads to a more personalized and enjoyable experience. -
Competitive Pricing for Float Trips:
Canoe rental businesses along popular Missouri rivers are generally competitive. It's likely that Ho-Humm offers standard, reasonable rates for their canoe and float trip services, especially considering the unique "float back to campground" feature which adds significant value. -
Package Deals (Likely, but Unconfirmed):
Many canoe rental and campground operations offer combined packages for camping and floating, which can often be more cost-effective than booking each service separately. It is highly probable that Ho-Humm provides such options.
For the most accurate and up-to-date information on rates, any available package deals for camping and floating, or potential discounts for large groups or extended stays, the best approach is always to contact Ho-Humm Canoe Rental & Campground directly. Their friendly staff will be able to provide precise pricing and help you plan your visit.

For many locals in Missouri, Ho-Humm Canoe Rental & Campground offers a distinct and suitable option for experiencing the authentic beauty and recreation of the Ozarks. While the reviews highlight a polarizing experience – some finding it challenging, others a beloved long-term favorite – this very duality speaks to its suitability for a specific kind of Missourian.
Firstly, for the adventurous and self-reliant local who cherishes genuine seclusion, Ho-Humm's remote location, accessed by "dirt road for miles," is not a deterrent but an attraction. It means a true escape from the more developed and often crowded tourist areas, offering a profound sense of tranquility and an unplugged experience that many Missourians seek in their outdoor adventures. If you're comfortable with rustic camping and navigating unpaved roads, this isolation translates into a peaceful retreat.
Secondly, the family-owned and operated nature of Ho-Humm, run by Clint and Sherry, cultivates a personal touch and a sense of community that resonates deeply with local values. For those who appreciate consistent, familiar service and the opportunity to build rapport with the owners, this campground fosters a welcoming environment. The presence of many "regulars or long timers" further solidifies this, indicating a place where campers return year after year, building a shared history and camaraderie.
Crucially, the unique feature of floating directly back to the campground from your Niangua River trip is a significant draw. For Missourians who regularly enjoy float trips, this convenience streamlines the post-float experience, allowing for immediate relaxation back at your campsite without the added step of waiting for a bus shuttle. This practical benefit enhances the overall enjoyment of the river experience.
Finally, despite its rustic charm, the addition of a "nice" new shower house shows a commitment to improving essential comforts, striking a balance between authenticity and convenience. For Missourians seeking a genuine, less commercialized, and community-focused camping and floating adventure on the beautiful Niangua River, Ho-Humm Canoe Rental & Campground, with its quirks and charms, offers a uniquely suitable and memorable experience in their own backyard.
Customer Reviews
This was absolutely the worst camping experience. It was so far off the main roads, dirt road for miles and miles. One night we were approached by a man who claimed to be the owner of the place cussing us out because our music was apparently to loud. We had all been drinking and we were ordered to leave. Really??? We were told he was going to call the sheriff and have us escorted off of the property. Then someone sat up on a picnic table all night watching our campsite. The sites are right on top of each other. We paid for 4 nights, only stayed for 3. Will definitely never go back. Everyone that was camping seemed to be regulars or long timers. The sheriff never showed up by the way, it was probably too far down the dirt road. The roadway into the campground was not even wide enough for 2 campers to pass safely. NEVER GO TO THIS PLACE!!!!!
Hohumm has been my go to for camping and floating for about 15 or more years now. Clint and his wife Sherry run the place. The new shower house is nice and the people are great! I like floating back to the campground instead of waiting for a bus to run you back. I will go again soon! You should come try it out!
Mad a reservation for 8 adults to camp. We were supposed to get #13, an electric site, 2 large rafts. When we got there, the store clerk said we were in site #6 and informed us that we had to be on the early 9am bus. When we went to the campsite, it was about 30' square. Clint (who appeared to be hammered drunk) was in the area, and although I had talked to him personally he said he didnt know we had 8 people. After a bit, he moved us to #1. We set up our tents and hung out a bit and went to bed. Excited for our float, we were up early and at the bus stop by 845 am. To our disappointment, Clint showed up in the bus at a out 945. We shook it off and were ready 3float. When we got up river, we found that the rafts were "on the way". 45 minutes later, the rafts finally showed up, they all had to be inflated. Finally, we are in the river and floating. We had a great day and got back to camp safely. Quiet hour is 12 midnight. Our neighbors had rap music blasting until 230 am. When we checked out, I expressed my concerns to the clerk. She replied "I only work in the store". We have been going to ho humm for over 5 years. Disappointment is an understatement. There are plenty of places to float the niangua. This may be our last time at ho humm.
Beautiful place to camp and float with family. Ground maintained , clean shower and bath house and super nice and friendly staff. Have been a loyal camper to them for over 20 years and could not be convinced to change
Our family have been going down here for years. We love this campground. I hope they open back up. This is home away from home. We miss u all dearly.
