Customer Reviews
Camping. You have to park your camper In the grass unless you are in a pull thru site. Some sites are soooo small there in hardly room. We had reserved site in January. It had rained for 3 days pryor to our arrival. Many of the sites were just mud. The renovated bathhouse had the electric outlets up so high they couldn't be reached. Also appears to be some homeless living there.
I would have given Hueston Woods 5 stars but the bathrooms on Memorial Day weekend were rarely cleaned and restocked. This state park is so nice though. There is so much to do between kayaking, hiking, biking, and running. My wife and I like to do things when we go camping and this state park has it all! We stayed on the older side of the campground and since our camper is less than 22’ we were able to pull it into our site (D035) easily even though it was a bit hilly. We walked through the newer side (A & B loops) which is mostly pull-through sites and also has quite a few full hook-up sites. It has more level sites and is very nice. Both sides have nice playgrounds and a good amount of trees. The bathrooms have plenty of toilets and shower stalls to accommodate holiday weekends when there are more people. However, this weekend was a disaster. You can see in the last two pictures how bad the bathhouse was in the D section and it was that way from Saturday until at least Monday afternoon. We let the state park staff know on Sunday and they did not seem to be too concerned or want to do anything about it. There was only one functioning toilet due to the other ones being clogged (no picture). I have been camping my whole life and have never seen a state park where the staff let a bathhouse get that bad on a holiday weekend. That is when you do your best to keep things clean because you have more visitors and you want to give a good impression. I hope they get this fixed for the next holiday weekend.
3 stars is about the best I can do for this park. I read the reviews regarding the slope of the sites but that was all an understatement until we showed up. Absolutely ridiculous. I travel with extra blocks but I had the camp host delivering blocks, wood and stone to my site to get us level. When storms passed through, I was legit worried. We travel yearly for the Longest Yard Sale along route 127 so we were gone all day garage saling. If not for this, my review would have been much lower. The grass was not mowed and the bugs were terrible. We had an end site, A1, again, a reason for the 3 stars. If not on the end, my review had been much lower. All the full hook-ups were launched up on blocks and wood. My review is basically for your camp host - he was great and super helpful. If not for him, we'd have had to leave.
We enjoyed the park and amenities. We don’t own a boat but still had plenty to do. Camping was pretty nice but the sites are close together in the A and B sections.
Love this park, but have learned not to stay in the "lower section" as it tends to attract riff raff and people who have no consideration of others. Camp host was scarce and should have done their job maintaining peace.
