The Izaak Walton League of America Conservation Farm is deeply rooted in its mission to conserve, restore, and promote sustainable use and enjoyment of natural resources. This ethos permeates the entire property, providing a setting where visitors can not only enjoy the outdoors but also connect with a larger purpose. Whether you're a seasoned camper, a hiking enthusiast, a responsible hunter or shooter, or simply looking for a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle, this farm offers a distinct experience. Its appeal lies in its combination of natural beauty, varied recreational opportunities, and a community of like-minded individuals dedicated to the environment.

The Izaak Walton League of America Conservation Farm is situated in the scenic rural landscape of Poolesville, Maryland. You'll find this expansive property at 20601 Izaak Walton Way, Poolesville, MD 20837, USA. This address places it in Montgomery County, known for its blend of suburban amenities and preserved natural areas.

Accessibility to the Conservation Farm is part of its charm. While reviews note it's "a long drive to get out here," this very remoteness is also "the appeal" for many, signifying a true escape into nature. Despite its "out there" feel, Poolesville is accessible from major routes in Maryland. From the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, or other parts of central Maryland, visitors typically use routes like I-270 and then transition to more local roads such as MD-118 or MD-107 leading into Poolesville. While it might feel like a journey to reach, the drive itself often transitions from suburban sprawl to rolling farmlands, preparing visitors for the serene environment that awaits. The location’s relative seclusion means that public transportation options are limited, so personal vehicle access is essential. However, once on site, the sprawling nature of the farm with its various activity zones and trails ensures that visitors can find plenty to do without needing to leave frequently. This blend of accessible remoteness makes it an ideal spot for Marylanders looking for a genuine outdoor experience without traveling too far from home.

The Izaak Walton League of America Conservation Farm offers a comprehensive array of services and facilities designed to support its mission of conservation and provide diverse recreational opportunities for its members and visitors.

  • Camping Grounds: Designated areas are available for camping, offering a traditional outdoor experience. This includes access to fire circles for campfires.

  • Variety of Landscapes: With fields, a lake, ponds, and wooded hiking trails, the farm offers a diverse range of natural landscapes to explore and enjoy.

As a membership-based organization with a focus on conservation and specific recreational activities like shooting and fishing, the Izaak Walton League of America Conservation Farm's "promotions or special offers" are generally tied to its membership structure and scheduled events rather than typical campground discounts.

  • Membership Benefits: The primary "offer" is the value derived from membership itself. Being a member provides access to the grounds, facilities (like the shooting ranges and fishing areas), and participation in conservation activities and community events. Information on different membership tiers and their associated benefits would be available by contacting the organization directly.
  • Event Participation: The farm regularly hosts events related to conservation, shooting sports, fishing, and youth activities (like the Boy Scout gatherings mentioned). Participation in these events might have specific fees or be included as part of membership.
  • Group Packages: For organizations like scouting groups, there might be specific arrangements or discounted rates for using the facilities for camping and activities, as suggested by the positive review from a Boy Scout leader.

Been a member here for 4 years now. Great people, great focus on the environment, not terribly diverse (lol) but everyone is super nice, and a lot of hunter/shooters here. I wish the rifle range was longer, but for shot gun folks, they have a great range for you. It's a long drive to get out here, but that's also the appeal. It's OUT there...great trails to hike and many things to do around the ponds.

This is a private club dedicated to conservation. It was open as part of Montgomery County Heritage Days. They have a fishing pond and a historical property we visited. They also have a monthly dinner open to anyone. Everyone was very nice.

IWLA is a great institution delivering quality conservation education and lasting values for the whole family. My family and I received our hunter education and license there while growing our understanding of the hunter tools and best practices. The institution is a great place to build character for young men and women. Learn about the outdoors and environment.
