Introduction / Overview: Your Adventure Basecamp in the Adirondacks
For New Yorkers seeking a manageable and memorable escape into nature, the Lake George / Saratoga KOA Journey in Lake Luzerne offers the ideal basecamp. Tucked away under towering 200-foot pine trees, this family-owned and operated campground provides a quiet, clean, and cozy retreat perfectly situated between the bustling attractions of Lake George and the historic charm of Saratoga Springs. Classified as a KOA Journey, it's expertly designed to provide a restful oasis after a day of travel or local exploration, focusing on comfort, cleanliness, and convenience for both short and long stays.
While the designation "Journey" means it offers a serene, slightly less amenitized experience than some larger resort-style campgrounds, customers consistently praise it for its laid-back atmosphere, incredibly clean facilities, and the genuine hospitality of the owners. It provides the essential comforts of a modern campground—clean restrooms, a sparkling pool, and convenient site hookups—while serving as the perfect launching point for all the activities the Southern Adirondacks region has to offer, from whitewater rafting to boating on the famous lake. It is especially suitable for those looking for a quiet night's sleep after a full day of New York adventure.
This campground caters to all styles of campers, offering a wide array of options from secluded tent sites nestled in the woods to spacious, full-hookup RV sites designed for the largest rigs, as well as comfortable, air-conditioned cabins. It beautifully balances easy access to local thrills with a peaceful camping environment, making it a reliable and welcoming choice for a New York family getaway.
Location and Accessibility: Perfectly Poised for North Country Exploration
The Lake George / Saratoga KOA Journey is strategically located at 564 Lake Ave, Lake Luzerne, NY 12846, placing it in a prime spot for New Yorkers eager to explore the North Country. Situated near Route 9, the campground offers easy access via major interstate highways, specifically off I-87 (The Adirondack Northway), Exit 21, and then a short drive south on 9N toward Lake Luzerne. This makes the drive manageable from most points in New York State, including the Capital Region, downstate, and even northern New Jersey/New England.
The location is unparalleled for accessing two of Upstate New York’s biggest draws: Lake George and Saratoga. The campground is just a short drive—approximately nine miles—from the heart of Lake George Village, with all its attractions, cruises, and dining options. Meanwhile, the historic and vibrant city of Saratoga Springs, famous for its summer horse racing season, is also easily reachable, making the KOA an ideal "base camp" to enjoy both areas without committing to the congestion of either. The immediate area of Lake Luzerne itself offers several local gems, including whitewater rafting outfits, tubing opportunities, horseback riding, and the nearby Painted Pony Rodeo.
Guests should note that as the campground is situated on Route 9, some sites, particularly those closest to the road or pool area, may experience road noise during the day. However, a significant highlight mentioned by regular visitors is that this traffic noise subsides at night, allowing for a quiet and peaceful sleep under the stars, a rare commodity so close to popular destinations.

Its location in Lake Luzerne, at the nexus of the Adirondacks, Lake George, and Saratoga, minimizes driving time while maximizing access to the best attractions in Upstate New York. New Yorkers seeking an affordable, clean, and reliably comfortable place to pitch their tent or park their RV for a short stay will find this campground ideal. It functions beautifully as a "home base" to explore the vast outdoor recreational opportunities nearby—from whitewater rafting on the Hudson River to hiking up Hadley Mountain for panoramic views of the "blue line" of the Adirondack Park. Furthermore, the dedication of the husband-and-wife owners to maintaining a clean, quiet, and friendly environment means New York families can truly relax around a campfire under the towering pines, knowing they have a pristine, well-run retreat to return to after a busy day of exploring their great state.

Great little campground run by a husband and wife. Grounds are very clean and maintained. It's right on route 9 so you get a lot of road noise if you have a site right by the pool. Plus most campers travel through your site to get to their cabins even though you're sitting right there. One nice trail to the lake if you like mountain biking. Nothing extreme but good dips and bumps. Fun experience for the whole family. Just remember it's a Journey campground, not a lot of amenities or activities like a Holiday or Diamond Resort, but it's super quiet at night, especially when the road traffic dies down. Just right for a short inexpensive stay to explore the area.
Aug 17, 2025 · Matthew RaiaQuiet, Cozy, Clean. Close proximity to Lake George with activities in between. Our 2nd time here in the same spot which we will continue to book every time we are here! We had a back in spot, 23ft travel trailer and a F250 crew cab long bed n could park that in front of the camp we with room to spare! Love this campground, we miss it already!
Sep 15, 2025 · Laura ReaganThe campground is wonderfully peaceful—perfect for a relaxing getaway. The pool is ideal for unwinding, and there’s a splash area that’s great fun for the little ones. The on-site fishing spot has bass, and the restrooms and showers are clean and well-maintained. Our tent site was generously sized—we fit a 12-person bell tent and a kitchen tent with plenty of room left over for another tent if needed. The water and electricity hookups were conveniently located for our kitchen setup. The shade from the surrounding trees was fantastic, and even when it poured rain for a bit, our site stayed mostly dry. Wi-Fi is adequate for quick emails or looking something up. Nearby activities are plentiful, including white-water rafting, tubing, zip lines, swimming in rivers and lakes, and it’s not too far from Lake George. All in all, this is a great and affordable place for a relaxing vacation, whether you’re here for adventure or just some quiet time outdoors.
Aug 13, 2025 · Captain MooseLike I said in my KOA post, it is all about the meet and greet in my opinion. Tammi and Dave gave us the most warm and welcoming introduction to their campsite which by the way his family owned. They took it over from another family member five years ago and told us all about the improvements they made. The sites were perfect with full hookups and completely leveled out. The bathrooms were spotless. And Kendra was an absolute doll who even gave us a tour of the cabins they have to offer. Definitely coming back.
Jul 31, 2025 · Dave LotitoVery well run campground. Staff very friendly and helpful. The campground is clean, the bathrooms are clean. The owners are involved in the day to day operation and very accessible. Congratulations on 50 years of being there for us! We look forward to seeing you next year.......
