When considering a camping trip to Lake Odessa Campground, it's always a good idea for local Iowa residents to inquire directly about any current promotions or special offers. While specific, widely advertised discounts for Lake Odessa Campground itself are not frequently publicized, as a state-managed facility, its pricing is typically standardized and affordable. However, there are general opportunities and things to consider that can impact your overall cost:
Standardized State Park/WMA Fees: Campgrounds managed by the Iowa DNR usually have set nightly rates based on the type of site (electric, non-electric, full hookup). These rates are often quite reasonable compared to private campgrounds.
Off-Season Rates: Some state-managed campgrounds may offer lower rates during the off-peak season, though Lake Odessa's primary camping season aligns with warmer weather.
First-Come, First-Served Availability: While some sites might be reservable, many state park campgrounds, especially for basic sites, operate on a first-come, first-served basis, which often means straightforward, consistent pricing. It's always best to arrive early, especially on weekends or holidays, to secure a spot.
Long-Term Stay Considerations: For extended stays, while not a direct "promotion," the overall affordability of the nightly rates can make longer trips more economical. Inquire if there are weekly or monthly rates available.
To get the most accurate and up-to-date information on camping fees and any potential considerations that might save you money, it is highly recommended to contact the Louisa County Conservation Board, who manage some camping in the Odessa area, or the Iowa DNR directly, as they oversee the broader wildlife management area. Customer Reviews
Clean, close to home, secluded. Love the water. So many things to do there. Great for boating, canoeing, and kayaks. Wildlife is abundant here. People fish here all the time. In boats or from the shore. Camping is reasonable, and they have electric hook up. And water. Also a bathroom.
It was really fun we stayed for 4 days the lake is really nice especially on hot days though I would really look on where you set up camp because if you dont get a shadey spot your tent will become a heated mess and there are outlets which is pretty nice the bathrooms smell awful and there are at least 2 water pumps but overall its a good place
This camp ground is teenie-weenie and everyone is packed in like sardines. Pretty boring and lame.
Great spot for a quick trip no showers ,bathroom is an outhouse but didn’t smell during this hot summer trip. The paddling was good. All the islands had flooded so we got to float in a lot of places you normally wouldn’t. Great Time
Writing as a touring cyclist (July 2020). Camp ground is along beautiful Lake Odessa. All campsite had full shade by 5:30pm. All campsites have a fire ring, picnic table, and electric hookup. Water is available on site. All for $12 per night. Campground was quiet during the week. Vault toilets were relatively clean. Bugs weren't too bad, but I'd still recommend bringing bug spray.
