Are you an Oklahoman who truly loves to immerse yourself in nature, seeking a camping experience that offers a genuine escape from the daily grind? Lakeside Campground, located in Johnston County, OK, offers a unique opportunity to connect with the beautiful surroundings of Lake Texoma. For many Oklahomans, camping is a cherished tradition, a chance to disconnect from technology and reconnect with the great outdoors. While some campgrounds offer a plethora of amenities, Lakeside Campground caters to those who appreciate a more authentic and natural camping experience, focusing on the breathtaking setting of Lake Texoma.
The vast and diverse landscapes of Oklahoma make it an ideal destination for outdoor adventures, and Lake Texoma stands as one of its crowning jewels. This massive reservoir, straddling the Oklahoma-Texas border, is famed for its fishing, boating, and scenic beauty. Campgrounds around Lake Texoma vary widely in their offerings, from full-service resorts to more rustic sites. Lakeside Campground falls into the latter category for some areas, providing a chance to truly rough it, or at least, to embrace a simpler approach to camping. It's about enjoying the sounds of nature, the warmth of a campfire, and the serene beauty of the lake without the distractions of modern conveniences at every turn.
However, it's crucial for prospective campers to understand the true nature of Lakeside Campground based on candid feedback from fellow Oklahomans. As multiple reviews clearly state, "Not sure what planet Jean Beilmann lives on. This site has no electrical, no running water, no toilets. There are pit toilets at a day use area about a mile away. The Lake is much lower than the boat ramp allows, there is no way to put in a boat at this campground. Perhaps elsewhere in the wilderness area. Yes, there are picnic tables." This highly specific feedback is vital for setting accurate expectations. It indicates that while the park offers picnic tables and a connection to the wilderness, some areas are indeed primitive and may not have immediate access to standard utilities like electricity, running water, or flush toilets directly at the campsite. However, further research reveals that Lakeside Campground, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, actually offers a mix of primitive tent sites and RV sites with water and electric hookups (30 or 50 amp) across its 137 sites, with many located at the water's edge. This discrepancy suggests that the specific "site" reviewed was likely a primitive one or the reviewer had an outdated understanding. It's important to differentiate between the primitive areas and the equipped sites available within the larger campground. There are also flush and vault toilets, showers, and two boat ramps within the overall park grounds.

Dec 15, 2024 · RexNice location. Not the most convenient place we have camped. The site we were in had 30 amp service (A loop) that blew the breaker several times a day. Couldn't run the air and the microwave simultaneously. Due to the location on the lake there are no sewer hookups - there are several dump sites. The location on the lake is great and you can pull your boat up to the shore by your camper so the inconvenience is pretty much worth it. I think that the camp sites are being refurbished so hopefully the electrical will be upgraded.
