Introduction / Overview
For Minnesotans who dream of a permanent summer getaway without the cost and upkeep of a cabin, Lee Lake Long-Term Campground in Hawley, MN, offers the perfect solution. Nestled in the picturesque lake country just east of the Fargo-Moorhead metro area, this destination is far more than a simple overnight stop—it’s a cherished, seasonal-only community where generations of families have spent their summers.
Established in 1981, this "Ma-and-Pa style," privately owned campground has cultivated a famously friendly and family-oriented vibe. The current owners, Justin and Amanda Halvorson, have continued this tradition, earning praise from campers for their respectful, kind, and attentive management. The focus here is on long-term stays (May 1 to September 30), allowing campers to establish deep roots and a true feeling of a second home in a beautiful, natural setting.
While a small number of daily RV and tent sites (five RV, two tent) are sometimes available, the primary function of Lee Lake is to serve its 92 seasonal lot holders, providing an array of amenities that foster relaxation, recreation, and community. With hundreds of mature trees, breathtaking rolling views, and direct access to quaint Lee Lake, this campground is a secluded haven that remains conveniently close to major services.

Aug 21, 2025 · Rabecca GarciaThis campground has 5 pull through sites with water and electric. Very quite and relaxing place, there is a pool with basic amenities. The camphost was very attentive. Good cell reception with Verizon, also got the local tv channels. The only reson for a 4 star review is that the water had a strong sulfur smell and iron taste to it. Aside from that it's a nice place and well manicured.
Jun 21, 2019 · L. EstevezWe’ve been renting out here for nearly 20 years? Great neighbors, friendly and helpful. Justin and Amanda have and are doing their very best to make improvements to the infrastructure as they can afford. Very well kept. Um, always has been a positive experience out here at Lee Lake. Thanks everyone 👍 We look forward to the next 20👍
Jul 09, 2021 · Todd BoucherWe stayed overnight as we were passing through. The owners are really nice as are the campers. The signal with AT&T is sketchy at best, however, that didn't ruin anything as we were just stopping by when on our way home from Bismarck, ND.
Sep 04, 2018 · Lucas PetrichIt was OK for just a place to stop on our way to get some sleep for the night. Never saw anyone. Pretty easy to fallow the signs to our site, left our check in the mailbox. Looks like they only have 5 "transit" sites and the rest is seasonals. Lots of mosquitoes! Don't bother getting $5 firewood. Not a full hookup but they have a dump station.
