Introduction / Overview
For Minnesotans seeking a consistent, welcoming, and nature-rich getaway, Leaf Lake RV Park in Audubon, MN, presents the ideal solution for your seasonal camping needs. Situated in the heart of Becker County’s famed lake country, this RV park is more than just a place to park your camper; it is a thriving, organized, and family-friendly private community where residents return year after year to enjoy the best of the Minnesota summer.
Leaf Lake RV Park operates primarily as a seasonal facility, fostering a strong sense of community and excellent neighborly relations. Campers consistently praise the park’s organized management and the safe, friendly environment it provides for children and adults alike. While the park is largely dedicated to seasonal campers, it offers a small number of weekend spots for those looking to "get a feel for the place" before committing to a long-term lot—a highly recommended approach given the park’s popularity.
Perhaps the most notable feature, particularly for local residents, is the park’s truly pet-friendly policy. In a region where many seasonal campgrounds place strict limits on the number or size of pets, Leaf Lake RV Park stands out by welcoming two dogs, even if they are larger breeds, ensuring that no member of the family is left behind when heading to the lake home. The location on Leaf Lake provides all the recreation opportunities you could want from a lake country escape, without the overwhelming congestion of some of the region’s larger lakes.
Location and Accessibility
Leaf Lake RV Park is perfectly positioned in a sweet spot of Minnesota’s lake region, making it an accessible retreat for many locals while still feeling like a true escape.
Address:
18210 Co Hwy 6, Audubon, MN 56511, USA
The park is conveniently located near the small, charming town of Audubon, placing it centrally between several larger hubs. This location on County Highway 6 ensures easy ingress and egress without placing the park directly on a major, noisy thoroughfare.
Proximity to Detroit Lakes: The RV park is a short drive from the bustling resort area of Detroit Lakes, offering access to its vibrant events, large-scale entertainment, shopping, and dining options.
Access to Fargo-Moorhead: For residents of the larger metro areas to the west, the drive to Leaf Lake is manageable, allowing for frequent weekend or mid-week visits throughout the season.
Leaf Lake Access: The campground is situated on the shores of Leaf Lake, which is noted for being large enough for recreational activities like boating and fishing, yet small enough to avoid the "heavy traffic" often seen on Minnesota's very largest bodies of water.
Local Convenience: A short boat ride or drive allows access to local establishments, such as Schmitty's Landing, enhancing the overall convenience and fun of the location.
Services Offered
As a highly organized and private seasonal park, Leaf Lake RV Park provides the essential, modern services that make long-term camping comfortable and convenient.
Full Hookups: The seasonal RV sites are equipped to handle modern campers, with many offering full hookups (Electric, Water, and Sewer).
Modern Comfort Facilities: The park features a newly constructed shower and laundry facility on-site, a critical amenity for seasonal guests.
Private Lake Access: Campers benefit from private, dedicated access to Leaf Lake, which is well-known for fishing species like Northern Pike, Walleye, Bluegill, and Crappie.
Boat Docking: The private lake access generally includes facilities for docking boats, allowing seasonal campers to leave their watercraft at the lake all summer long for instant access to the water.
Maintenance and Safety: The park management is praised for being organized and private, with rules actively enforced to ensure a safe environment and to keep noise down after the 11 PM quiet hours, ensuring peace and tranquility for all.
Features / Highlights
The true value of Leaf Lake RV Park lies in its community focus and unique recreational offerings, which cater directly to families and pet owners.
Unmatched Pet-Friendly Policy: This is arguably the most outstanding feature. The park is one of the few seasonal facilities that openly welcomes up to two dogs, regardless of breed (unlike many others with strict size or breed limitations), and provides a fenced-in dog park, making it the ultimate destination for Minnesotan dog lovers.
Strong Community Vibe: The environment is genuinely family-friendly, with a lot of friendly adults who regularly meet at campfires and socialize. The seasonal model naturally encourages a tight-knit "great neighbors" feeling, creating a true second-family dynamic.
Private Beach and Lake Fun: The property offers sand beaches and private lake access, perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and launching small watercraft.
Active Recreation Areas: Beyond the lake, the park provides dedicated spaces for activity, including volleyball and basketball courts, promoting healthy outdoor play for kids and friendly competition for adults.
Perfect Lake Size: Leaf Lake itself is a highlight. Campers appreciate that it is a "bigger lake than I thought" for recreation, yet remains peaceful because the "heavy traffic goes to bigger options," providing a better quality of experience for boating, tubing, and fishing.

As a seasonal RV park with a dedicated clientele, Leaf Lake RV Park often experiences high demand. Contacting the management directly is the best way to inquire about the few available weekend rental spots or to be added to the waitlist for a seasonal lot.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
For Minnesotans, the appeal of a long-term, low-stress lake getaway is immense, and Leaf Lake RV Park delivers this perfectly. It is highly suitable for locals because it offers a unique combination of essential amenities, an authentic lake experience, and a welcoming community atmosphere that is often hard to find.
The seasonal-only model means residents of the Fargo-Moorhead corridor and Central Minnesota can establish a convenient, consistent "cabin" spot without the burdens of traditional cabin ownership. This stability fosters a neighborly environment, where strong, supportive relationships thrive among fellow campers, creating a safe and fun place for all ages. Crucially, the genuinely pet-friendly policy addresses a major pain point for many local RV owners, ensuring that their beloved dogs can enjoy the Minnesota summer right alongside them. When you consider the lake's perfect balance of size and tranquility, the family-focused rules, and the well-managed facilities, Leaf Lake RV Park stands out as an exceptional choice for any local family looking to make the most of their summers in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

This is our second year having our 8 person camper parked at Campers Cove and we LOVE IT. It is the ONLY Seasonal camping facility that I know of that is truly pet friendly (we have two dogs...no one else would let us bring BOTH dogs even though they are smaller breeds). Family friendly environment with a lot of friendly adults for the parents too. We go boating or hang out by the campfire with couples (and their kids) that we met after settling in to our new lot....very fun! There are rules and they are enforced, but all rules are designed to keep noise down after 11pm and to keep the kids safe. Can't complain! They do have a couple weekend spots you can rent out if you want to get a feel for the place. It's on Leaf Lake which is a bigger lake than I thought, and Schmitty's Landing can be reached by car or by boat. What can I say, I love it.
