For New York residents seeking a genuine escape into the tranquil beauty of the upstate region, Little Lake Campground in Jefferson, NY, presents itself as a viable option for a relaxed outdoor getaway. Situated in the picturesque southern Catskill Mountains, this campground was thoughtfully established on 101 acres in 1999, with a clear focus on preserving the natural habitat and providing a serene camping experience. It has been described by some as "a little slice of Heaven," offering a blend of natural beauty and necessary amenities.
Little Lake Campground is not a large, resort-style facility, but rather a family-run property that caters to a diverse range of campers, including those with large RVs, tent enthusiasts, and those looking for a simple cabin rental. The emphasis here is on quiet enjoyment and the ability for visitors to initiate their own activities, creating a restful, low-key environment. This type of setting appeals greatly to city dwellers seeking genuine peace and fresh mountain air away from the urban clamor.
However, it is important for prospective guests to note the range of customer experiences. While many reviewers highlight the well-maintained sites, the restful atmosphere, and the friendliness of the owners—one reviewer specifically mentioned the owners "made us feel at home"—other feedback suggests challenges with maintenance, particularly concerning the pond’s suitability for swimming and issues with electric service. Furthermore, an expectation of numerous organized children’s activities may not be met, as one reviewer noted, and there have been reports of owner conduct that some families found "inappropriate." Therefore, Little Lake is best suited for campers who prioritize a quiet, natural retreat and are comfortable initiating their own fun, rather than those seeking a highly structured, activity-packed resort.
Little Lake Campground is located at 146 Porter Rd, Jefferson, NY 12093, USA. The town of Jefferson is nestled in the southern part of the Catskill Mountains, placing it within the scenic Delaware and Schoharie counties region.

Little Lake Campground is an excellent choice for New York locals—particularly families, couples, and seniors—who are specifically looking for a traditional, quiet, and amenity-rich outdoor experience without the intense crowds of larger, more commercial destinations. Its location in the serene Catskills offers the quintessential upstate New York experience: clean air, beautiful skies, and a chance to disconnect.
For the local user, the campground provides a highly practical and enjoyable "getaway" destination. The manageable driving distance means a weekend trip is truly relaxing, not exhausting. The variety of sites—from full RV hookups to rustic tenting and cozy cabins—means it can cater to any preference, ensuring that the necessary comfort level is met. This versatility, combined with the presence of a pond for fishing and kayaking, volleyball and basketball courts, and the overall peaceful, well-maintained environment noted in several positive reviews, makes it a true respite.
It is important to manage expectations, especially regarding highly structured children's activities and the need to verify the pond's current swimming status. However, for those who value quiet, self-directed recreation, and a place where the owners—as noted by one guest—make you "feel at home," Little Lake Campground offers a welcoming, authentic slice of Catskills heaven. It’s an ideal setting for New York families to create their own peaceful, long-lasting summer memories.

Great place, well maintained, quiet and restful. Owners made us feel at home. Grassy pond beach with children's playground was inviting. Kayaks are available for the pond. Your activities are up to you to initiate. My type of a getaway. I'll be back.
Jun 19, 2025 · Bill BeckerFirst time going up there and what a joke, have 7 kids and nothing for the kids to do the pond looked disgusting not appropriate for swimming the Itty bitty playground they have is nothing, our breaker panel kept tripping and the major thing was the owners, they were never there hurried to check us in and left for hours, rude and very inappropriate to be yelling and screaming in front of my kids l. Would never suggest to go there!
Aug 13, 2025 · Noel DiamondI recently held a weekend-long celebration of my wedding at Little Lake Campground and I know that I struck gold by hosting the festivities in their pavilions and working with Tammy and Dan. They could not have been more kind, welcoming and generous with their time and talents. They truly went above and beyond to make sure that the weekend was successful, despite the best efforts of mother nature. If I needed anything or might need anything, they were always right there. I also appreciated Tammy's kind and encouraging words which helped me calm down and enjoy the process and the event. Tammy was super responsive during planning, as well as incredibly accommodating, which allowed us to hold a truly unique event for our guests. We camped with many of our guests, then stayed on our own for a few days afterwards. Our guests had nothing but great things to say about the campground, and so many people commented on how beautiful the surrounding area is. The campground is quiet and peaceful, which we greatly appreciated in the days afterwards as we rested and recovered from the experience. I look forward to spending many nights under the stars at Little Lake Campground.
Jul 10, 2024 · Sara ChapmanCamping has rules and we always respect others when we go. We are quiet after hours, we do not play corn hole until 1:00 a.m., we do not let our dogs bark all day long like seasonal.,,And we were warned about it..Years ago we had a good time when we went but this time the whole attitude was different. We just felt like seasonal people and your usual people can do as they please. We brought to you over $1000.00 and we did not feel welcome at all. WE WILL NOT BE BACK EVER AGAIN.not sure if you are just having a bad year or what and taking it out on us ,but I feel we were just as important as everyone else. Our money is green too.. Our Friends with the disabled child did not want to say a word and make trouble but were kept awake with your usual group with her crying all night so they packed up and went home with no sleep. Sorry if OUR GROUP caused you troubled ..Its not the point of getting along as you stated in my brothers post, its following the rules you stated.. quiet hours after 10 p.m. ,no dogs barking after a period of time . We were friendly with everyone. So I will not except that ..Actually I will not except any of your replies... We all are good quiet people and respect others and help others too..My friends said it was pretty .. I know they said they told you what you said only because they do not want to make trouble..they are like that.. I was not one of the people to move or to leave late, nor not to come, so you cannot judge me. The guy packing up ,his dog barked the whole time ..while I was trying to lay down , not that you care but my illness was acting up and I needed to rest.. it was unreal. ,,,I bet if it was mine you would have been upset... You were in a mood this year for some reason and you just do not want to admit it.. All I can say I is I hope you have a good winter and God bless you and have a good evening..
Oct 19, 2021 · MertOur favorite place. We always enjoy our stays there. Clean, well kept, and very relaxing. I was shocked to read a review that it was noisy. We have never experienced that in the years we've been going there. Look forward to every trip we have booked.
