Features / Highlights

Vandonsler RV Campground offers several features and highlights that enhance the camping experience for its visitors, making it a popular choice for those seeking a convenient and comfortable stay in Knoxville, Iowa.

  • Proximity to Knoxville Raceway: This is arguably the biggest highlight for many visitors. The campground's location adjacent to Highway 14 and just a short walk (approximately seven minutes) from the Knoxville Raceway is a significant draw, especially during major racing events like the Sprint Car Nationals. This allows guests to easily attend races and events without worrying about parking or transportation.
  • Dedicated Race Event Camping: Vandonsler RV Campground is particularly popular during the Knoxville Sprint Car Nationals, traditionally held the second week of August. During this period, the campground sells out to full capacity and requires reservations made via application. This dedicated approach ensures that racing fans have a reliable place to stay during this peak time.
  • Paved Pull-Through Campsites: Outside of major race weeks, the campground often accommodates paved pull-through campsites. These sites are convenient for both camping and parking vehicles, making it easier for RVers to set up and manage their rigs.
  • Flexible Stay Options (outside peak season): While peak racing events have specific reservation requirements, during other times of the year, the campground typically offers more flexibility, accommodating campers on a more casual basis.
  • Established and Returning Clientele: The campground has a loyal base of returning customers, with some reviewers mentioning they have stayed for multiple consecutive years and even secured the same spot. This indicates a consistent positive experience and a sense of familiarity for regulars.

Promotions or Special Offers

Based on available public information, specific ongoing promotions or special offers for general RV stays at Vandonsler RV Campground are not extensively advertised. However, it's important to note how pricing and reservations are handled, especially during peak periods.

One past customer review mentioned a rate of "$50 a night isn't too bad" for their stay. It also highlighted an experience where a monthly rate was paid, but only a portion was refunded for an early departure, specifically for electric use, without pro-rating the entire monthly amount to a weekly stay. This suggests that while there might be long-term rates, the refund policy might be strict, so it's always advisable to clarify this directly with the campground.

For the busiest times of the year, such as the 360 and 410 Sprint Car Nationals (traditionally the second week of August), the campground typically sells out to full capacity. During these high-demand periods, reservations are often required and made by sending an application prior to arrival. This indicates that while there might not be "promotions" in the traditional sense, securing a spot during these popular events requires planning and adherence to their specific booking procedures and payment terms. It is highly recommended to check their official website or contact them directly for the most current information regarding rates, availability, and any special offers that might be available for off-peak seasons or extended stays.

We have stayed at this RV campground for the last 4 years it's $50 a night isn't to bad. I really like that it has water, electric and sewer hook ups. We have always got the same spot every year. We stay 3 days in September and have a great time.

Nice place! But it you work nights not the place to stay. Paid for the spot for a month and found a place closer to my work. Was there for 7 days and they wouldn’t pro rate the amount for the 30 day stay to the week stay. Only got money back for electric use.

Put us on the side of a hill that also tipped down so getting level in the wet grass was out of the question. Being parked three foot from my neighbor on one side, two foot from the porta potty with 96 deg heat and 85 humidity was not fun. Messed up our first reservation. Two stars because they have shuttle to and from the track.

The attitude of the guy who answers the phone leaves a lot to be desired. If you don't get in your spot at least a week prior to the event, and you have a larger rig, forget it. In my opinion, the place is too small and they pack you in.
