Nebraska residents, are you seeking an engaging outdoor adventure that’s close to home and packed with lakeside fun? Look no further than Louisville State Recreation Area. Nestled near the Platte River, this popular destination offers a vibrant mix of water-based activities, diverse camping options, and family-friendly amenities, making it a beloved spot for a quick getaway or a longer vacation right here in eastern Nebraska.
Louisville State Recreation Area encompasses 192 acres, boasting five sandpit lakes that collectively offer approximately 50 surface acres of water. Surrounded by towering cottonwood trees, this inviting area has long been a favorite among outdoor enthusiasts in eastern Nebraska. It's a key part of the state's recreation system, offering a variety of camping experiences, from modern RV sites to more rustic tent camping. Recent investments in the park have brought significant upgrades, enhancing the overall visitor experience with improved electrical hookups and renovated facilities.
While Louisville SRA is celebrated for its beautiful lakes and water activities, it's worth noting some aspects that give it a unique character. Campers frequently mention the active railroad tracks running close to some sites, with trains passing by regularly, even at night. This can create noise and vibrations that some light sleepers might find challenging, though many adapt by using white noise or fans. Despite this, the allure of the lakes, the convenience of the location, and the range of activities keep visitors coming back. The park also features a concession stand, making it easy to grab essentials or a quick bite. Overall, Louisville State Recreation Area provides a dynamic and engaging outdoor experience that combines natural beauty with recreational opportunities.
Louisville State Recreation Area is conveniently located at 10 Main St, Louisville, NE 68037, USA. More specifically, it’s situated on the south bank of the Platte River in Cass County, near the northern edge of the community of Louisville on Nebraska Highway 50. This prime location makes it incredibly accessible for a large portion of Nebraska’s population, particularly those residing in and around the Omaha and Lincoln metropolitan areas.

From Lincoln, travelers can take Exit 426 from I-80, then go east on Highway 66 to Highway 50, and turn left (north) onto Highway 50. The park entrance is typically well-marked, leading you directly into the recreation area.
The accessibility extends within the park as well, with well-maintained roads leading to the various camping loops and recreational areas. While some campsites are noted for being quite close together, particularly certain online reservable sites, the general layout allows for easy navigation for RVs and trailers. Its proximity to the town of Louisville means quick access to local services, shops, and any forgotten essentials, blending a natural escape with convenient amenities. The area is also ideally located for campers who wish to take advantage of facilities at nearby Platte River State Park and Schramm Park State Recreation Area and Education Center.

Trains run about every hour so sleeping was challenging! No water at all spouts. Pretty lakes and nice to bike around.
May 22, 2025 · Lori CarlsThe lake/beach area is great for small kids as it is shallow pretty far out. There is a nice little store, somewhat expensive depending on what you need. The water playground is around $15 or $18 for 90 mins. Not worth it imo. The campsites are VERY close together. There are a couple areas where there is more space: 1-10, along the back (200s by train). These are walk up sites and don't show online. The tent sites were pretty nice looking, great for camping with a large group. There are only 6 full hook up sites, all online and always booked. Dump/fill station only has 2 stalls, expect a wait on Fridays and Sundays. Showers cost $1 for 3 mins, ridiculous. Especially when you're forced to be water conscious with no water hook up. There are trains, LOTS of trains coming by esp at night. Some sites are literally 6-10 ft from the tracks. If you are a light sleeper, this will wake you and shake/rumble tent/RV. Overall it is ok during the week, too crowded on the weekends and the kids on staff are not very helpful/don't give accurate info - talk to an adult. Pictures are of the "larger" sites.
Jun 25, 2024 · JennerJ21It's okay it's not the best it definitely could have been better if it was up kept. This park has some of these worst bathrooms. Ridiculous pricing just for you to still have to pay to shower, to swim. Now if your just coming to visit and not camp then sure charge for that stuff but if a person is camping for a few days those amenities should be included especially the showers also where we were staying by the 170 area the water spicket didn't even work. But good time fishing, good time camping except the loud train that seems to come through every 30 min all day and night feel bad for the parents who didn't know this like us. Our camp host was awesome she was definitely a very kind lady. Also having to drive around the whole park just to get back to your camping area was a little over the top we definitely would come back to fish and swim in the free area but I don't think we would come back to camp just from our personal experience
Jun 04, 2025 · Emilly WelchertThe beach is really nice. The camping spots feel a bit close, but I'm used to backwoods camping. You need change to pay for a shower, this especially stinks because most people don't carry cash.
Sep 17, 2024 · Amanda HowardWarning Do Not Camp in a tent here. There are trains visible from the sites that run the entire night at 2-3 per hour. They blow their horn just before the park and just after the park. The park itself seems decent but between the party people across from us until 12, people driving by until 12, and the trains we got maybe 3hrs sleep. Someone smoked weed in the vault toilet and made it a hot-box. Paying to take a shower was also weird. Booked for 2 nights but leaving after the first and won't be back unless it is for the day.
