Mayfield RV Park About

Howdy, Louisianans! For RVers navigating our beautiful state, finding the right place to park can often depend on your specific needs and expectations. When it comes to Mayfield RV Park in Plaquemine, Louisiana, it's clear from feedback that this park offers a unique and straightforward experience, particularly suited for those prioritizing safety and a basic, no-frills setup for their RV.

Mayfield RV Park is located in Plaquemine, a town with deep roots in Louisiana's history and a gateway to the famed Atchafalaya Basin. Reviews suggest that the park’s main strength lies in providing a "very safe place to stay," a critical factor for any RVer. However, it's also described as "sort of rundown" and directly adjacent to "train tracks," which can lead to significant noise and shaking, even for larger campers. This particular detail is crucial for prospective visitors to consider, especially those sensitive to noise or seeking a perfectly quiet retreat.

It's important to approach Mayfield RV Park with realistic expectations, as it caters to a specific type of RVer. While it might not offer a resort-style experience, its emphasis on security can be a major draw. However, some past residents have raised concerns about management responsiveness, property upkeep, and specific rules regarding children. One reviewer explicitly stated that the landlord "doesn't care to take care of the place" and "doesn't allow kids," expressing a strong negative sentiment. This highlights the need for direct communication with the park management to confirm current policies and conditions before committing to a stay. This article aims to provide a factual and transparent overview of Mayfield RV Park, helping you decide if its key attributes align with your travel or living needs in Louisiana.

Location and Accessibility

Mayfield RV Park is located at 23025 LA-1, Plaquemine, LA 70764, USA. This address places the park along Louisiana Highway 1, a significant thoroughfare that runs through much of the state, offering direct and relatively easy access for RV travelers. Plaquemine itself is a historical town in Iberville Parish, situated on the west bank of the Mississippi River.

The park's location provides a mixed bag of convenience and environmental factors. Being on LA-1 means straightforward navigation for those coming from or going to other parts of Louisiana, including the capital city, Baton Rouge, which is a relatively short drive north. This accessibility to Baton Rouge is beneficial for accessing larger urban amenities like extensive shopping, diverse dining, medical facilities, and employment opportunities. Plaquemine itself offers local services, including grocery stores, gas stations, and smaller local businesses.

However, a major defining characteristic of this location is its proximity to "train tracks." Reviews explicitly state that trains pass by frequently, causing "loud" noise and making RVs "shake." This is a significant consideration for potential residents, as it can disrupt sleep and overall tranquility. Despite the noise, the location also offers some advantages for those interested in the local area's industrial or agricultural activities, given that Plaquemine is part of a larger industrial corridor along the Mississippi River. For RVers who prioritize direct highway access and are less sensitive to industrial and train-related noise, or those needing a utilitarian base for work in the area, the location might still prove practical.

Services Offered

Based on the nature of RV parks and the provided user reviews, Mayfield RV Park likely offers fundamental services typical for a functional RV park, although specific details are limited. The reviews suggest a more basic approach, focusing on providing a place to park an RV rather than extensive amenities.

  • RV Site Hookups: It can be reasonably assumed that the park provides essential hookups for RVs, including electricity (likely 30 and/or 50 amp), water, and sewer connections at each site, which are standard for most RV parks.
  • Basic Lot Rental: The primary service offered is the rental of RV lots for short-term or long-term stays.
  • Security (Reported): One review explicitly states it is a "very safe place to stay," implying that the park makes efforts to ensure the security of its residents and their property.

It is important to note that a review mentions there are "no bathrooms or shower facilities" at a nearby park (Atchafalaya RV Park, which could be confused with Mayfield due to proximity and similar basic offerings). While this information is for a different park, it highlights that some basic parks in the area might lack these amenities. It's crucial for prospective guests of Mayfield RV Park to confirm the availability of facilities like restrooms, showers, and laundry directly with management if these are essential for their stay, as the provided information does not confirm their presence at Mayfield specifically.

Features / Highlights

Mayfield RV Park, while described as basic, has a few key features that stand out based on the available feedback, catering to a specific audience of RVers.

  • Very Safe Place to Stay: A primary highlight for the park is its reported safety, providing peace of mind for residents. This is a critical factor for many RVers, especially those traveling alone or with valuable property.
  • Location near Train Tracks: This is both a feature and a consideration. While it contributes to noise and vibrations, it clearly marks the park's location and is an unavoidable aspect of the experience for those who choose to stay there. RVs "would shake when the trains would come through," and trains "will wake you up in the middle of the night."
  • Suitable for Large Campers: Despite the shaking, the park seems capable of accommodating "big camper," suggesting sufficient space for larger RVs.
  • Basic, No-Frills Environment: The description "sort of rundown" implies a focus on utility over aesthetics or extensive amenities, appealing to those who need a functional place to park without expecting luxury.
  • Proximity to LA-1: Located directly on Louisiana Highway 1, it offers straightforward and convenient access for travelers.
  • Specific Policy on Children (Reported): A reviewer claims the landlord "doesn't allow kids." If accurate, this is a significant feature that would make the park unsuitable for families with children but potentially appealing to adults seeking a child-free environment. This policy needs direct confirmation with management.

If a direct phone number becomes available, it will be the most reliable way to connect with park management. Conclusion: Why This Place is Suitable for Locals

For Louisianans considering Mayfield RV Park in Plaquemine, it's crucial to understand that this park caters to a very specific set of needs and expectations. Its suitability for local users depends heavily on individual priorities and tolerance for certain conditions.

Firstly, the park's most significant draw is its reported "very safe place to stay." In any residential or temporary living situation, security is paramount. For locals, knowing their RV and belongings are in a secure environment can outweigh other drawbacks, especially if they are working in the area or need a long-term parking solution. This focus on safety provides a fundamental level of assurance that is highly valued.

Secondly, its location along LA-1 in Plaquemine offers practical accessibility for those familiar with the area. It serves as a straightforward base for individuals working in the industrial corridor along the Mississippi River or those who frequently travel this route. While the proximity to "train tracks" and the resulting noise and shaking are undeniable downsides ("trains will wake you up in the middle of the night"), for some locals accustomed to industrial sounds or who prioritize a convenient work commute over absolute quiet, this might be a manageable trade-off. The ability to accommodate "big camper" also means it can handle a wide range of RVs, which is a practical consideration for many Louisiana RV owners.

However, it's imperative for locals to note the significant concerns raised by past residents regarding the park being "sort of rundown" and allegations of an unconcerned, "rude" landlord and employees who "don't care to take care of the place." The explicit statement that the landlord "doesn't allow kids" is also a critical policy that would make it entirely unsuitable for families. Given these strong negative comments, direct and thorough communication with the park management is absolutely essential before considering a stay. For the right individual – someone seeking a no-frills, secure, and potentially long-term RV parking solution near Plaquemine, who is not traveling with children, and is tolerant of significant train noise and a less-than-immaculate environment – Mayfield RV Park might fulfill a very specific, practical need. Otherwise, local users seeking a more amenity-rich, family-friendly, or peaceful experience should explore other options in the wider Plaquemine area.

Prices are high. And service was hard to get. Neat and clean area. Not much parking and trailers are close and plans are to move in more across from the ones now.

Haven't stayed here, but the lots are a little to close together. If you have a travel trailor it would work better.
