McWest RV Park About

For Texans who embrace the RV lifestyle and are seeking a straightforward, affordable, and peaceful place to call home – whether for a few days or an extended period – McWest RV Park in McKinney, TX, offers a unique proposition. Opened in January 2023, this relatively new park is designed for the self-sufficient RVer who values tranquility and a budget-friendly stay over an extensive list of traditional amenities. It's a genuine slice of country living right outside of bustling McKinney.

McWest RV Park is known for its "no frills" approach, meaning you won't find a communal laundry room, restrooms, or showers on site. This design choice contributes to its affordability and appeals to those with fully self-contained RVs who prefer the privacy of their own facilities. Located in a very rural area, the park offers a quiet escape, with a charming view of cows grazing in an adjacent field on its western boundary and an empty field to the east, providing a sense of open space. The management is on-site and responsive, ensuring that your needs are met promptly. While some rigs are clearly here for the long term, the park also sees a fair share of short-term visitors passing through. If you're a local Texan who prioritizes peace, affordability, and the independence of your RV, McWest RV Park might be the perfect, laid-back spot for your next stay.

Location and Accessibility

McWest RV Park is situated at 727 E Cottage Hill Pkwy, McKinney, TX 75071, USA. This address places it in a decidedly rural part of McKinney, which is a key aspect of its appeal. For Texans looking to escape the urban sprawl, this location delivers genuine country living.

While the park itself is in a quiet, rural setting, it doesn't mean you're entirely cut off. The closest essential services are approximately 9 miles away, a 15-minute drive along scenic country roads to the town of Anna. Here, you'll find a Walmart for groceries and supplies, various restaurants for dining out, and gas stations. For a wider range of options, including laundromats and more extensive shopping or dining, the city of McKinney is also about a 15-20 minute drive away. The rural location means that while a vehicle is necessary for accessing amenities, the drive itself is pleasant and offers a taste of the Texas countryside. The park is accessible via well-maintained county roads, making it easy for RVs of all sizes to navigate to and from the site. This balance of secluded tranquility and reasonable access to town makes McWest RV Park a practical choice for locals who appreciate a quieter environment but still need to reach urban conveniences.

Services Offered

McWest RV Park operates on a "no frills" model, meaning its services are focused on providing essential utilities and a well-maintained site, rather than extensive communal amenities. This approach contributes to its affordability and appeals to self-sufficient RVers.

  • Affordable RV Site Rentals: The park is noted for its affordable cost, making it an economical option for both short-term and long-term stays.

  • Water & Electric Hookups: Water and electricity are included in the cost of your stay, providing essential utilities for your RV. While specific amp service isn't detailed, full hookups are standard for RV parks.

  • Dog-Friendly Environment: McWest RV Park welcomes dogs, making it a suitable choice for RVers traveling with their canine companions.

  • On-site Management: The park benefits from on-site management, ensuring that there is a responsive point of contact for any issues or questions that may arise during your stay. This active presence contributes to the overall order and peace of the park.

  • Quiet and Peaceful Atmosphere: While a feature, the maintenance of a quiet and peaceful environment can also be considered a service, as the park’s layout and management contribute to this tranquil setting, ideal for relaxation.

  • Waste Disposal: While not explicitly stated, all RV parks provide some form of waste disposal, typically through individual sewer connections at each site (implied by "full hookups") or a communal dump station.

Features / Highlights

McWest RV Park, while embracing a "no frills" philosophy, offers several appealing features and highlights that contribute to its charm and suitability for a specific type of RVer.

  • Rural and Peaceful Setting: One of its strongest features is its location in a "very rural area," providing a quiet and peaceful environment. This is ideal for those looking to escape city noise and enjoy the tranquility of the Texas countryside.

  • Relatively New Park: Having opened in January 2023, the park is quite new. This often means well-maintained infrastructure for the hookups and a fresh feel to the overall grounds, even without extensive amenities.

  • Cows as Neighbors: A unique and charming highlight is the park's western boundary abutting a fenced field where "cows roam throughout the day." This adds to the rural ambiance and provides a pleasant, pastoral view.

  • Fireflies in the Evening: During certain times of the year, particularly in the evening, guests can enjoy the enchanting sight of fireflies, adding a magical touch to the natural surroundings.

  • Good for Long-Term Stays: The park has a mix of short-term and long-term residents, indicating its suitability and affordability for those needing an extended stay in the area for work or other reasons.

  • Spacious Sites (Implied): While not explicitly stated, the phrase "super spacious" used for a similar park often implies that newer, "no frills" parks can afford to offer more generous spacing between RV pads, contributing to privacy and comfort.

  • Minimal Distractions: The lack of extensive communal amenities means fewer potential sources of noise or activity, enhancing the peaceful atmosphere for those who prefer quiet.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

McWest RV Park presents an excellent, albeit specific, option for Texans in search of an RV park in the McKinney area. Its suitability for locals hinges on several key aspects. Firstly, its commitment to being a "no frills" park translates directly into affordability, making it an attractive choice for those on a budget or looking to minimize costs for extended stays. The inclusion of water and electricity in the base cost further enhances this value.

Secondly, its rural location offers a true escape from city life, providing a genuinely quiet and peaceful environment. For Texans weary of urban noise, the sounds of nature, combined with the unique sight of cows grazing nearby and fireflies at dusk, offer a refreshing change of pace. This tranquility is perfect for self-contained RVers who appreciate their own space and don't require extensive communal amenities. We arrived here a couple weeks ago, relocating from out of state. The park is relatively new (Jan 2023) and "no frills" (no amenities like laundry, restrooms/showers,etc), which is fine for our needs at the moment. It is located in a very rural area. Water & electric are included in the cost, and the cost is affordable. Dogs welcome. The park management is onsite, and they are responsive. There are a few rigs that appear to be here for the long term, but since we've been here, there have been quite a few who come for a day or a few and then travel on. On the western boundary, the park abuts a fenced field where cows roam throughout the day. The eastern boundary is an empty field. At this time of year, fireflies come out in the evening, which was neat to see. The closest stores are about 9 miles away (15 minute drive along country roads) in Anna, where you can find a Walmart, restaurants, gas, etc. I haven't been to a laundromat yet, but the closest appears to be in McKinney, also a 15-20 minute drive.

Reserved a specific site and paid in full in July. We get there in September, and someone is in our spot. Called, she offered me five bucks and pick another spot. I declined. There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HERE. The only photo, while it was being built, was the only one I have seen. That's because it looks the same. ZERO facilities, no bath house/restrooms, no laundry, no amenities at all. She refunded our money, (minus her fees) within 24 hours. It's cheap for a reason.

All that you would expect from a gravel parking lot with full hook up at $25 a night. The county roads in this area are trailer eaters. Drive slow and stick to the middle of the road to avoid the slumps and cracks.

Only negative aspect is that they don't accept RV's older than 10 years. Fantastic beautiful place. Quiet. Perfect if you want some peace and quiet.

I've lived here for 2 years and barely had any problems. The owners are very nice.
