Oak Park Resort About

Introduction / Overview

For South Carolina residents seeking a practical and straightforward RV parking solution, particularly for extended stays or dedicated fishing trips, Oak Park Resort in Fair Play presents a unique option. This resort caters to a specific niche, offering a no-frills environment that emphasizes peace, quiet, and direct access to Lake Hartwell. While it might not align with every camper's ideal "resort" experience, it serves as a functional and scenic base for those whose priorities are work-related stays or focused outdoor activities like fishing. It's a place designed for utility and direct engagement with the natural surroundings, especially for local users who value convenience for specific purposes.

Oak Park Resort has a defined character, often described as more of a long-term RV parking solution than a traditional vacation campground. Visitors highlight its suitability for "people who are there for work," indicating its value as a practical base for those with professional commitments in the area. Its primary appeal for recreational users appears to be its "easy access boat slip on site," making it a go-to spot for avid anglers looking to spend their time fishing on Lake Hartwell. This direct water access is a significant draw, providing immediate entry to one of South Carolina's premier fishing destinations.

However, it's important to set expectations regarding amenities and park management, as reviews present a mixed picture. While some appreciate the "peace and quiet" and the owner's ongoing "upgrades to the landscape and lots," others have noted a lack of traditional camping amenities and concerns regarding site conditions and owner responsiveness. The consistent praise for Lynn, who "runs the office, and everything else is awesome," suggests that her helpfulness is a critical component of the positive experiences at Oak Park Resort. This dual perspective indicates that while the park offers a suitable solution for certain needs, prospective visitors should align their expectations with its functional, rather than amenity-rich, focus.

Location and Accessibility

Oak Park Resort is located at 228 Ledford Farm Rd, Fair Play, SC 29643, USA. This address places it within the community of Fair Play, situated in Oconee County, South Carolina. For residents across the state, particularly those in the upstate region, Fair Play is accessible via major routes, making the resort a convenient drive. Its strategic location offers a quiet, rural setting while providing direct access to a prominent natural feature.

The most significant aspect of Oak Park Resort's location is its direct proximity to Lake Hartwell. This expansive reservoir, straddling the border of South Carolina and Georgia, is renowned as a premier destination for fishing, boating, and various water sports. The resort's "easy access boat slip on site" is a major draw for anglers and boaters, allowing immediate entry to the lake's abundant opportunities. While one review noted the lake being "extremely low" at times, which "wasn't their fault," the fundamental access to this vast water body remains a core appeal.

Fair Play itself is a smaller, unincorporated community, contributing to the "peace and quiet" often highlighted by visitors. While it offers a tranquil environment, essential services and a wider range of dining and shopping options would typically be found in larger nearby towns. The specific address on Ledford Farm Road suggests a rural approach, which might be "totally pitch black at night" and have "driveways in the upper part are so small you can not see them at night," according to one review. This highlights the rustic, less-developed nature of the surroundings, which contributes to its quiet appeal but also requires awareness regarding nighttime navigation. For South Carolina residents, particularly those focused on lake activities or work-related stays, the convenience of direct Lake Hartwell access from a quiet base remains a key advantage of this location.

Services Offered

Oak Park Resort, while described as having "no amenities other than the water and docks" by one reviewer, does offer core services essential for RV parking, particularly for long-term stays. Based on the provided reviews, the confirmed services include:

  • RV Parking with Water and Docks: The primary service is providing RV parking spots with access to water hookups and docks for lake access.
  • Easy Access Boat Slip On Site: A major draw for fishing enthusiasts, this provides convenient launching and docking for boats directly within the resort.
  • Electrical Hookups: While not explicitly detailed, the standard expectation for an RV park is the availability of electrical hookups (typically 30 and/or 50 amp) at each site. This is inferred from the necessity of "parking our RV."
  • On-site Office / Management Support: Lynn, who "runs the office, and everything else is awesome. Very helpful and always hel," indicates that there is dedicated on-site support for guests and residents. This personalized assistance is highly valued.

However, it's important to set realistic expectations based on the feedback:

  • Limited Amenities: Reviews state "no amenities other than the water and docks," implying a lack of traditional campground features like bathhouses, laundry facilities, or recreational areas within the park itself.
  • Water Quality Concerns: "The drinking water is so bad. We didn't even give it to our fur baby!" suggests a significant concern with water quality for consumption, implying guests should bring their own drinking water.
  • No Provided Internet/TV: "You have to have your own internet and TV," indicating these are not provided services at the sites.
  • No Security Lights/Picnic Tables: Requests for security lights and picnic tables were reportedly denied or unfulfilled by the owner, suggesting these are not standard provisions.

Prospective visitors should contact Lynn at the office directly to confirm current services and any changes, particularly concerning water quality or site-specific amenities, to ensure their needs are met.

Features / Highlights

Oak Park Resort, despite a mixed bag of feedback, does offer several features and highlights that appeal to specific segments of the South Carolina camping community:

  • Direct Lake Hartwell Access with Boat Slip: This is arguably the biggest highlight. The "easy access boat slip on site" makes it a prime location for serious anglers and boaters who want immediate access to one of the region's top fishing lakes. One long-term visitor specifically states, "I fish most of the time I'm here 🤣."
  • Peace and Quiet: Visitors consistently mention the "peace and quiet" as a desirable feature, making it suitable for those seeking a tranquil escape from noise and crowds.
  • Suitability for Work Stays: The park is noted as "good for people who are there for work," suggesting it serves as a practical, extended base for individuals on assignment in the area.
  • Responsive Office Management (Lynn): Lynn, who runs the office, receives glowing reviews for being "awesome," "very helpful and always hel." Her presence is a significant asset, ensuring that operational aspects and guest needs are addressed.
  • Owner's Ongoing Upgrades: A long-term resident mentions the owner "is always doing upgrades to the landscape and lots," indicating a commitment to continuous, albeit perhaps slow, improvement of the park's physical environment.
  • Views of Lake (when not low): One reviewer "loved the views" when the lake levels allowed, suggesting picturesque scenery as a potential highlight.

However, it's important to acknowledge features that are noted as lacking or challenging: no provided internet/TV, difficult-to-level gravel sites, "totally pitch black at night," small driveways in upper parts, and closely spaced lots, which impact the "camping feel." The "bad" drinking water is also a significant concern. The core highlight remains its excellent fishing access and quiet, utilitarian atmosphere.

Promotions or Special Offers

Based on the provided information, there are no specific promotions or special offers explicitly detailed for Oak Park Resort. Given that some reviews suggest it is "good for people who are there for work" and one visitor stayed "from September to December," it implies that the park likely offers:

  • Long-Term / Monthly Rates: It is highly probable that Oak Park Resort provides competitive monthly rates for extended stays, which are often more economical than daily or weekly rates. This would cater to individuals working in the area or long-term seasonal residents, especially anglers.
  • Flexible Stay Lengths: The park seems to accommodate both short-term visits (implied by "first place we parked our RV") and extended stays.

Since traditional promotional deals or discounts (e.g., for specific groups, seasonal packages) are not mentioned, the "offer" for prospective guests is primarily its functionality as a long-term base with direct lake access.

For the most accurate and up-to-date information on rates, availability, and any potential special terms for extended stays, it is highly recommended that interested individuals contact Oak Park Resort directly. Lynn, the office manager, is consistently praised for her helpfulness and responsiveness, making a direct phone call the most effective way to inquire about pricing and any specific arrangements for your planned visit.

This was the first place we parked our RV when we bought it in September. I loved the views and the peace and quiet. There were no amenities other than the water and docks, but while we were there, you didn't really have use of the lake bc it was extremely low. This wasn't their fault. It is hard to keep your RV level bc it is nothing but gravel. Totally pitch black at night. I asked about security lights and the owner, JR said he likes it dark. The drinking water is so bad. We didn't even give it to our fur baby! The driveways in the upper part are so small you can not see them at night. I helped someone get their 5th wheel out of the ditch bc they are so bad. And it was daylight. The lots are right on top of each other. Personally, it is good for people who are there for work. It doesn't have the camping feel to it. You have to have your own internet and TV. Lynn, that runs the office, and everything else is awesome. Very helpful and always hel. We stayed from September to December, and I talked to JR two times. Once, he was on a golf cart with a beer in his hand and a cooler at his feet. Along with a couple that he was giving a tour. His dogs always run wild and I myself have never seen him clean up behind him. The other was when I asked about the lights and if we could get a picnic table. That's when he said he likes it dark. Then I asked him if he had a picnic table, and he said he would bring it back. Never got it, and when he was on the golf cart with the couple, he was showing them the lot beside me. I asked about the table, and he had no clue what I was talking about. However, I'm not saying we won't ever stay there again if needed. As long as Lynn is still there. We know she will handle everything, and we don't have to worry about dealing with the owner. Again, this is our personal opinion. Not bc he did anything to us.

I have stayed with oak park resort for 3 weeks, twice a year for the past 3.5 year. I like the easy access boat slip on site. I fish most of the time I'm here 🤣. The owner is always doing upgrades to the landscape and lots . Looking forward to my next fishing trip.

Beautiful spot. A little noisy but quite pleasant. We had trouble with the lock on our travel trailer. The owner and his hired man spent over an hour helping us dismantle the lock so we could gain access other than through the emergency window. Thank you Thank you Thank you. Greatly appreciated their help!!!

To use the word "resort" to describe this "campground" is an absolute fabrication. For starters, the website is extremely vague and I believe that's the intention of the owner, to avoid accountability. There is no cancelation policy listed. There are a few decent spots beside the lake which are the photos he uses on his website and charges $800 a month for. The other spots, he refers to as "lakeVIEW" spots, are way back away from the water, literally on a barren gravel lot. No trees, no picnic tables, no amenities of any kind, right beside the main road with no fence.. no privacy. These are $650 a month plus electric. He asks for an "electric" deposit up front, in the amount of $250, which I paid by card over the phone. Upon arriving there, we saw that the bad reviews were absolutely true and that the photos were misleading. My husband travels for his work and I come with him. We've been a lot of places but this was somewhere I just could not stay for 3 months. We tried calling the owner to speak to him and tell him we were not satisfied but got a voice-mail. We waited for 30 minutes and decided to just find another campground. Thankfully we found a spot at a real campground that has been absolutely fabulous. As with another poster, the lady in the office called me and said she would refund our money. After waiting several days for the refund, I spoke to her again and she said the owner will not refund our money. Again, the deposit we paid was for ELECTRIC... which we never used. After speaking with a few of the people at our current campground, we now know he does this to a lot of people. If you are looking for a campground in this area, please do not go by the pictures alone for this one. They are deceiving and very misleading. If you only need a place to sleep it would probably be OK. I'm a huge supporter of small businesses but I don't support people who have to be dishonest and scam people out of their money. I would not ever recommend this place to anyone.
