Pecan Grove RV Park About
For Texans who love the freedom of RV travel but crave the vibrant energy of a big city, Pecan Grove RV Park in Austin offers a truly unique proposition. Tucked away at 1518 Barton Springs Road, this long-standing RV park isn't your typical sprawling, amenity-rich resort. Instead, it's a rustic, charming, and incredibly well-located oasis that puts you right in the heart of Austin's most iconic attractions. Imagine waking up to the sounds of the city, surrounded by mature pecan trees, and being just a short walk or bike ride away from live music, delicious food, and the natural beauty of Zilker Park. Pecan Grove RV Park provides a distinct experience that prioritizes unbeatable access to Austin's culture and outdoor spaces, making it a beloved, albeit quirky, choice for many local RV enthusiasts. It's a place where the "Keep Austin Weird" spirit extends to your camping adventure, offering a no-frills, authentic urban stay.
The absolute standout feature of Pecan Grove RV Park is its unparalleled location and accessibility. Situated at 1518 Barton Springs Road, Austin, TX 78704, USA, this RV park places you directly in one of Austin's most sought-after neighborhoods. You are literally just steps away from Zilker Park, home to the famous Barton Springs Pool, the Umlauf Sculpture Garden, and vast green spaces perfect for picnics, dog walks, or simply enjoying the Texas sunshine. The vibrant South Congress (SoCo) Avenue, known for its eclectic shops, trendy restaurants, and live music venues, is also within easy walking distance. Downtown Austin, with its famous Sixth Street, entertainment districts, and the Texas State Capitol, is just a short drive or a pleasant walk/bike ride across Lady Bird Lake. The accessibility extends to transportation options; while the park itself is nestled away, major thoroughfares are within easy reach for those driving in or out of the city. For Texans looking to fully immerse themselves in the Austin experience without constantly battling traffic or searching for parking, Pecan Grove RV Park's location is truly unmatched.
Pecan Grove RV Park offers fundamental services catering to RV travelers, focusing on the essentials needed for a comfortable stay in an urban environment. It's important to set expectations as it is known for its more rustic approach, prioritizing location over extensive amenities often found in larger, more resort-style RV parks.
- Full Hookups: The park provides full hookup sites, which generally include water, sewer, and electric connections (typically 30 and 50 amp service). This is crucial for RVers, ensuring a self-contained and convenient stay.
- RV Sites: The park accommodates RVs with various sizes, though some reviews indicate that sites can be relatively small and navigating tight downtown streets to reach the park can be a challenge for very large rigs. It offers both back-in and pull-through sites.
- On-site Management: There is a manager (Mark has been specifically mentioned in positive reviews) who is available to assist guests and address any minor issues.
- Restrooms and Showers: Public restrooms and shower facilities are available for guest use. However, some customer reviews indicate these facilities might not always be stocked properly or are described as "run down."
- Laundry Facilities: On-site laundry facilities are typically offered for guest convenience.
- Pet-Friendly: Pecan Grove RV Park is generally considered pet-friendly, allowing guests to travel with their furry companions. Specific restrictions or fees for pets should be confirmed upon booking.
- Cash-Only Payments: Based on recent customer reviews, the park primarily or exclusively accepts cash payments for nightly rates. This is a crucial detail for potential visitors to note in advance.
- No Wi-Fi: Several recent customer reviews indicate that Wi-Fi is not available at the park. This is an important consideration for travelers who rely on internet access.
Despite its rustic charm, Pecan Grove RV Park boasts several features and highlights that make it an appealing choice for a specific type of RVer, particularly those who value location and a laid-back atmosphere.
- Prime Downtown Austin Location: This is by far the biggest highlight. The park’s proximity to downtown Austin, Zilker Park, Barton Springs Pool, and South Congress Avenue is unparalleled. Guests can walk, bike, or take a short ride to many of Austin’s most famous attractions, live music venues, restaurants, and shopping districts.
- Shade from Pecan Trees: As the name suggests, the park is adorned with mature pecan trees, providing much-needed shade from the Texas sun, which enhances comfort during warmer months.
- Quiet Urban Oasis: Despite being in a bustling city, many visitors report that the park maintains a surprisingly quiet and peaceful ambiance, offering a sense of natural tranquility amidst the urban environment.
- Friendly Management: Customer reviews frequently praise the manager, Mark, for being friendly, welcoming, and helpful, contributing to a positive guest experience.
- Long-Term Stay Potential: While specific availability for short-term stays can be limited due to demand, the park has a mix of short-term and long-term residents, making it a viable option for those looking for an extended stay in Austin.
- Access to Outdoor Recreation: Direct access to Zilker Park means immediate entry to miles of walking/biking trails, open green spaces, and recreational activities like kayaking and paddleboarding on Lady Bird Lake. Peter Pan Mini-Golf is also literally next door.
- Walkable Dining and Entertainment: Numerous popular Austin eateries and entertainment spots are within walking distance, including Uncle Billy's Brew & Que, Austin Java Cafe & Bar, and various establishments on Barton Springs Road and South Congress Avenue.
- Authentic Austin Vibe: For those who appreciate Austin's unique, somewhat "weird" and laid-back culture, Pecan Grove RV Park embodies this spirit, offering a more authentic local experience than a highly manicured resort.
Given the nature of Pecan Grove RV Park as a well-established, centrally located, and somewhat in-demand urban park, it typically does not offer extensive or publicly advertised promotions or special offers in the way larger chain RV resorts might. Its primary draw is its unique location, which often allows it to maintain consistent pricing due to high demand. However, it is always recommended for Texans interested in staying at Pecan Grove RV Park to directly contact them via phone to inquire about current rates and any potential availability for short-term stays. While there are no widespread promotional codes or seasonal discounts advertised, occasionally, independent parks might offer unadvertised deals, or have specific rates for extended stays that differ from nightly rates. The key takeaway here is to directly communicate with the park management, especially since their payment method is cash-only and they do not have public Wi-Fi, which underscores the importance of direct contact for the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding pricing and booking.

Customer Reviews
Excellent place to stay . Mark, the manager was terrific and made us feel welcome and helped us with any minor issue we had. The location is the main draw and the proximity to downtown is amazing.
The location is great, we were visiting family for a couple of days and were able to walk where we needed to go. The manager was very friendly and helpful. However, the place is run down and scruffy. Long-term residents are not required to keep their sites tidy, there are overgrown weeds everywhere, broken bits of concrete and the bathroom was not stocked properly. The price is high at $80 per night, and oddly they will only take cash. No wifi available.
Hands down the best RV location in the entire US. Yosemite is a close second to this Hip Urban Airstream lifestyle location. Hidden Gem and if you are lucky enough to land here, DO IT!! Cycle Town Lake, Take the kids to Butler park or the central library, or the Springs! enjoy all that downtown Austin has to offer from this walk everywhere RV urban park. So blessed to make this my home for now….!!
Don’t expect much for your price here. Don’t even have picnic tables at the site. Overgrown weeds surrounding the broken cinderblocks that were used to cover the sewer. Seems to be mostly a place for permanent campers. Weed management would keep the bugs down. Pretty much zero amenities. Only plus is that it backs up to a park which is along the river.
Below is an earlier review. Sadly, the service has gone from five stars to one... or zero. We made reservations then re-confirmed only to be told when we got to Austin (500+ miles from home) that they had no record of our reservation and didn't have any room. This also upended other activities we had planned with our grandchildren in the immediate vicinity. Very unprofessional, and it doesn't mean anything for them to have a nice place to stay if you can't trust their word. To borrow from The Who, we won't get fooled again. This place is great! It's less than 0.2 miles from a number of restaurants and food trucks, including the famous Chuy's and just a bit further to Zilker Park... a local favorite. We walked to Chuy's with our dogs and got to-go tacos (which were excellent). Pecan Grove has a bath house, free WIFI and laundromat but other than that it's pretty short on amenities, but that's not why you stay there. Very cool r.v. community in the middle of a very cool part of Austin. If you like progressive, eclectic communities you will love this place. Rental bikes are available at the entrance and free electric scooters are near by.
