While some sites, like Eagles Nest, may have a "small dock," others feature "sand bar" landings, requiring careful navigation.
For entry, it is advised to "come in through the North side as the water is very shallow and has a lot of plant growth." This suggests that a "fishing boat, jetboat, or kayak is best," and campers should be prepared to "trim up and be prepared to clean out the seaweed." This information is vital for planning your watercraft choice and approach to ensure a smooth arrival. The Peshtigo River itself offers various sections, from flatwater paddling to whitewater rapids, depending on the specific location of the campsite. Its appeal lies in its unique, untouched nature and the experience it provides.
Instead, the "offer" is the inherent value of a secluded, primitive camping experience at a generally low cost (or even free with a permit for some remote sites) compared to more developed campgrounds. Key aspects to consider are:

Awesome island! Rocks absolutely rocked. Probably igneous, but I'm not a rock surgeon. Best ice water I've ever had. Brats were tasty, not so sure about Tanner's "cheese biscuit"... Spider thunderbox makes me feel safe.
Feb 08, 2025 · Jesse PetersonWe camped at Honkers Hideaway which shares the island with the Eagles nest. Don't worry, they're not close enough to interfere with each other and offers a lot of privacy. Be warned though, these sites are only accessible by boat or kayak. The landings are a sand bar except eagles nest which has a small dock. It is best to come in through the North side as the water is very shallow and has a lot of plant growth. A fishing boat, jetboat, or kayak is best. Otherwise trim up and be prepared to clean out the seaweed. The site offers a fire ring, a large clearing for tents, and a toilet in the ground. Bring toilet paper and fire wood! The weekends during the summer get a little busy with boating during the day, and is great for fishing outside peak boating hours. Get familiar with the water depth because it does fluctuate quite a bit. I highly recommend this site and area, it was really unique!
