Pinnacle Creek ATV Campground About
For West Virginians who live and breathe the thrill of ATV and UTV adventures, Pinnacle Creek ATV Campground in Bud offers a distinct and direct gateway to the excitement of the Hatfield-McCoy Trails. This isn't your typical quiet nature retreat; it's a campground designed with the off-roading enthusiast in mind, providing a convenient and laid-back base camp for days filled with exhilarating trail riding. If your idea of a perfect getaway involves kicking up dust on legendary trails and then returning to a relaxed atmosphere, Pinnacle Creek ATV Campground is tailored for you.
Located strategically to provide access to some of the state's most famous trail systems, Pinnacle Creek ATV Campground understands the needs of its adventurous clientele. As one reviewer aptly put it, "I'm offroading and don't expect too much," highlighting the focus on functionality and accessibility for trail riders. The campground aims to provide a place to rest and recharge after a day of exploring, prioritizing the overall off-road experience. For those who own their own campers, the sentiment is clear: "If you want a campground to stay at with your own camper, it'd be great." This suggests that the experience for RV and trailer owners is often a comfortable and convenient one.
While the primary draw is undoubtedly the proximity to the trails, Pinnacle Creek ATV Campground strives to offer a "laid back and relaxing place to stay." This atmosphere allows riders to unwind, share stories of their day's adventures, and prepare for the next. The focus here is on providing essential services and a welcoming environment for the off-roading community. While lodging options like bunkhouses are available, the core strength lies in its suitability for those who bring their own RVs or campers, seeking direct access to West Virginia's renowned ATV trails.
Pinnacle Creek ATV Campground is ideally situated in Bud, West Virginia, with its address at 3190 Wagon Wheel Rd, Bud, WV 24716, USA. This location is paramount for its target audience, as it places the campground squarely within the vicinity of the renowned Hatfield-McCoy Trails system, specifically providing direct or very close access to the Pinnacle Creek Trail System. For ATV and UTV enthusiasts, this means minimal travel time from their campsite to the start of their off-road adventure.
Accessibility to the campground is generally straightforward, typically involving travel on well-known routes that lead into the Bud area. Once in Bud, Wagon Wheel Road provides direct access to the campground. The focus on off-roading means the routes leading to and within the campground are usually suitable for vehicles towing trailers with ATVs/UTVs. The strategic placement ensures that riders can easily unload their machines and hit the trails without significant delays, making it a highly convenient hub for multi-day riding trips.
Beyond the immediate trail access, the location in Bud, WV, also means that the campground is part of the larger southern West Virginia outdoor recreation landscape. While the primary draw is the ATV trails, the surrounding region offers a rugged beauty that is characteristic of our state. The convenience of being able to stay close to the trails after a full day of riding significantly enhances the overall experience, removing the need for long commutes back to more distant lodging. This excellent accessibility to the trails themselves is a major advantage for Pinnacle Creek ATV Campground, firmly establishing it as a go-to spot for the off-roading community in West Virginia.
Pinnacle Creek ATV Campground offers a range of services tailored primarily for the off-roading community, focusing on convenience and a place to rest after a day on the trails. Based on customer reviews, the key services include:
- RV/Camper Sites: The campground is explicitly recommended for those with "your own camper," suggesting well-equipped sites for recreational vehicles. While not detailed, these typically include water, electric, and potentially sewer hookups to make stays comfortable.
- Bunkhouse Lodging: For those without their own camper, the campground provides bunkhouse accommodations. Bunkhouse 2 was noted to have "hot water" and an "awning," providing basic shelter. However, reviews indicated a lack of bedroom doors in some bunkhouses and cleanliness issues (e.g., "refrigerator needs some mold and mildew removal," "ants").
- Bathroom Facilities: Access to a shared "bathroom," which was notably described as "the nicest room in the house (minus the ants) but it had a door," indicating the presence of functional, albeit sometimes challenged, restroom facilities.
- Access to Hatfield-McCoy Trails: The primary service is its strategic location and access to the Pinnacle Creek Trail System, part of the extensive Hatfield-McCoy Trails. This is the main reason riders choose this campground.

Customer Reviews
I'll start with this, I'm offroading and don't expect too much. The owner was a nice guy. We stayed in bunkhouse 2, it had hot water, no bedroom doors, but it was a place to stay, oh and the awning was nice. The bathroom was the nicest room in the house (minus the ants) but it had a door. The cleanliness was sub par and the ants were selfish and helped themselves to our food and belongings. The refrigerator needs some mold and mildew removal. If you want a campground to stay at with your own camper, it'd be great, we just don't recommend the bunkhouse we stayed in.
Pinnacle Creek ATV campground is one of the only places to go to. It's laid back and relaxing place to stay.
We have been here 3rd time now and it never gets old, what a fantastic experience! we was there for a weekend. My family and I loved riding the trails, you can ride all week and not see everything because there is miles and miles to ride everything you want from easy to challenging trails this place is just filled with nice people that will help you anyway they can that is just out having a good time.
It's a old school RV camp ground. The staff is always friendly and happy. The campground leads straight into the Outlaw Trail System. The showers are always hot. Love that after a long ride.
Awesome place to stay! Staff are wonderful and take care of their campers immediately!! Trails are connected to the campground with easy access!! Highly recommend!!
