Powells Mobile Home Park Inc About

Introduction / Overview

For many South Carolina residents, finding affordable and accessible housing is a significant consideration. Mobile home parks often present a more budget-friendly alternative to traditional housing, and in Columbia, Powells Mobile Home Park Inc. is one such option located on Percival Road. This article aims to provide a factual and comprehensive overview of Powells Mobile Home Park Inc., drawing directly from publicly available information and customer experiences. While the concept of a mobile home park is often appealing for its affordability, it's crucial for prospective residents to have a clear understanding of the living conditions and community environment before making a decision. We'll explore the location, reported services, and key features, always with an emphasis on providing a realistic perspective for local South Carolinians.

Location and Accessibility

Powells Mobile Home Park Inc. is situated at 702 Percival Rd, Columbia, SC 29206, USA. This location places it within the bustling capital city of South Carolina, offering residents relatively easy access to various parts of Columbia. Percival Road is a significant thoroughfare, connecting to other major roads and allowing for convenient travel to employment centers, shopping districts, educational institutions, and healthcare facilities within the Columbia metropolitan area. The park's city location means residents are not far from essential services and amenities, which can be a definite advantage for daily living. However, accessibility within the park itself, particularly concerning internal road conditions, is a recurring theme in public feedback.

Services Offered

As a mobile home park, the primary service offered by Powells Mobile Home Park Inc. is the provision of lots for mobile homes. This typically includes:

  • Mobile Home Lot Rentals: The park provides spaces where individuals can place their own mobile homes. This is the core function of such a park, offering a dedicated spot for housing.
  • Utility Access (Presumed): While not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews, mobile home parks generally provide hookups for essential utilities such as water, sewer, and electricity at each lot. However, the condition and reliability of these hookups are not addressed in the available feedback.

It is important to note that specific details regarding on-site management, trash services, or common area maintenance are not positively highlighted in customer reviews, which instead focus on negative aspects of maintenance and living conditions.

Features / Highlights

Based on the provided customer reviews, it's important to present a balanced view, including both potential advantages and reported concerns.

  • Location: One notable highlight, even amidst negative feedback, is the park's location. As one reviewer stated, "The location is great." Being on Percival Road in Columbia offers geographical convenience to city amenities.

However, it is critical to address the significant concerns raised by multiple reviewers, which suggest the following as features that detract from a positive living experience:

  • Poor Road Conditions: Reviews consistently mention "terrible roads," "bumpy roads," and roads "filled with potholes." This indicates a significant issue with the park's internal infrastructure.
  • Lack of Maintenance: "Maintenance is a joke," and "poor maintenance" are frequently cited. This suggests that upkeep of the property, including general cleanliness and repair work, is a major problem.
  • Run-Down Appearance: Descriptions like "old and run down looking," "too clustered and need cleaning," and "raggedy, run down" paint a picture of neglected aesthetics.
  • Infestation Issues: Several reviews directly mention "roach infested" and "roach infested slum park," pointing to severe pest control problems.
  • Uncontrolled Animal Population: The presence of "a lot of cats" and "cats everywhere" is noted, indicating a potential issue with stray or feral animals on the property.
  • Safety Concerns: One particularly alarming review highlights a serious safety incident involving a resident and their child, including a firearm discharge, suggesting a potentially "not a safe environment at all."
  • Management Communication and Practices: Difficulty reaching the office ("mailbox is full") and questionable management practices, such as "doing a lot to benefit themselves and not the tenants" and alleged theft of property and non-return of security deposits, are severe complaints. Reports of homes with mold and faulty wiring, and management denying knowledge, also point to serious concerns about tenant well-being and management accountability.

Promotions or Special Offers

Based on the publicly available information and customer reviews, there is no indication of any promotions or special offers at Powells Mobile Home Park Inc. Given the nature of the feedback, the focus appears to be on the basic provision of mobile home lots rather than incentives for new residents. Prospective tenants should inquire directly about current rental rates and any associated fees.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

When evaluating a mobile home park for suitability for South Carolina locals, especially in the Columbia area, factors such as affordability, community environment, safety, and quality of living are paramount. While the location of Powells Mobile Home Park Inc. on Percival Road in Columbia offers geographical convenience to city amenities, the overwhelming consensus from customer reviews raises significant concerns that directly impact its suitability for local residents.

The consistent feedback regarding poor road conditions, lack of maintenance, a run-down appearance, and severe issues with pest infestations (specifically roaches) suggests a challenging living environment. More critically, reports of safety concerns, including a distressing incident involving a firearm, and allegations of problematic management practices like unreturned security deposits, mold, and faulty wiring, paint a picture of a place that may not prioritize tenant well-being or provide a secure living space.

While mobile home parks can be a vital source of affordable housing, the issues highlighted in these reviews strongly suggest that potential South Carolina residents should exercise extreme caution and conduct thorough due diligence before considering Powells Mobile Home Park Inc. It is crucial for locals to carefully weigh the reported living conditions against the convenience of the location and the listed rental prices. For anyone seeking a stable, safe, and well-maintained environment for themselves or their family, the current public feedback indicates that Powells Mobile Home Park Inc. may not meet basic expectations for a desirable place to call home. Locals are advised to explore all available alternatives in the Columbia area that can demonstrably offer a higher standard of living and management responsiveness.

Terrible roads, Maintenance is a joke, It's old and run down looking. Too clustered and need cleaning, bumpy roads A LOT OF CATS!!! The cats take up the whole property!! Needs to be paved roads, They have poor maintenance they're also seem to be doing a lot to benefit themselves and not the tents that stay here they went up on the property only to build new homes for the better of their business poor living arrangement. Raggedy, run down, roach infested. Cats everywhere. All roads in there filled with potholes. Not a safe environment at all. Not worth what they charge for rent. They need to replace them with up to date trailers. This is a roach infested slum park. One star is extremely generous, the nicest part of Powell's is leaving and never returning. Save your money and time. DONT RENT HERE! The location is great. The Mobile Home Park, not so much. When you try to call the office their mailbox is full.

I was in unit 8. These people empty out the trailer before I was able to clean it out... Also the trailer had mold growing which made me sick to where I had to go to the hospital for two weeks. Then had the nerve to say they didn't know. Also the wire were bad throughout the home. Then on top on that the maintenance man daughter continued to know on my door 2 am every other morning talking bout someone was in my house talking bout her. One night her boyfriend came to my door banging then lift up his shirt showing a gun when I close the door and he shoot 3 shots in the sky... Knowing it was just me and my 3 year old.... They had no reason to touch my things. And 1000s of dollar of stuff I know the maintenance guy and his family took

The location is great. The Mobile Home Park, not so much. The homes are run down and the road definitely needs to be paved. You need a chin strap just to drive through the park. As rundown as this place is, they have the audacity to do background checks on potential residents. Please, I'm sure that they have more drug dealers, and common criminals living here than the imagination can conjure up.
