River Park Campground About
For those in Michigan seeking an affordable, well-maintained, and conveniently located spot to enjoy the beauty of the Upper Peninsula, River Park Campground in Menominee presents an attractive option. More than just a place to park your RV or pitch a tent, this campground offers a straightforward, no-frills approach to outdoor enjoyment, focusing on providing essential comforts in a pleasant setting. It's an ideal destination for travelers who prioritize a good value, a well-kept environment, and easy access to local attractions without the added complexities or higher costs often associated with larger resorts.
River Park Campground aims to provide a reliable and accessible camping experience. Feedback from visitors often highlights the well-maintained nature of the park and the friendly atmosphere, suggesting a welcoming environment for both seasoned campers and those new to the experience. While some modern conveniences like online reservations might not be available, the campground maintains a personal touch, allowing for direct communication and a more traditional booking process. This approach can appeal to those who prefer direct interaction and a simpler way of planning their trips.
Located in the charming city of Menominee, the campground offers a strategic base for exploring the rich history, natural beauty, and local charm of Michigan's southern Upper Peninsula. Whether you're looking to enjoy the waterfront, explore the city, or simply unwind in a peaceful setting, River Park Campground provides a solid foundation for your Michigan adventure. It represents a practical and enjoyable choice for those looking to experience the region without unnecessary extravagance.
River Park Campground is ideally situated at 1400 5th Ave, Menominee, MI 49858, USA. This address places it within the historic city of Menominee, Michigan, a community rich in maritime heritage and natural beauty, located at the mouth of the Menominee River where it meets Green Bay (Lake Michigan).
The accessibility of River Park Campground is a significant advantage for travelers. Being located directly in the city of Menominee means that campers have immediate access to a wide array of local amenities and attractions. Unlike campgrounds deep within forests, this urban-adjacent location allows for easy trips to grocery stores, restaurants, local shops, and healthcare facilities. The address on 5th Avenue suggests straightforward navigation within the city, simplifying arrival and departure, especially for those with larger RVs.
Its proximity to key waterways is another major highlight. The Menominee River, a popular spot for fishing and boating, is virtually on its doorstep, and the expansive waters of Lake Michigan (via Green Bay) are just moments away. This offers immediate opportunities for water-based recreation without requiring significant travel. Furthermore, Menominee serves as a convenient stopping point for those traveling along the eastern edge of Michigan's Upper Peninsula or for those crossing between Michigan and Wisconsin (via the bridge to Marinette, WI). The combination of urban convenience and access to significant natural features makes River Park Campground a practical and attractive base for exploring both the city of Menominee and the wider regional attractions.
River Park Campground focuses on providing essential and well-maintained services to ensure a comfortable and convenient stay for its campers.
Full Hookup Sites: A primary service offered is full hookup sites. For an affordable price (around $40 as noted in a review), campers can access water, electric, and sewer connections directly at their site, which is a major convenience for RV travelers.
Well-Kept Park: The overall park is "well kept," indicating that the management prioritizes cleanliness and maintenance of the grounds and facilities, contributing to a pleasant camping environment.
Restroom and Shower Facilities: The campground provides shower house facilities for guests. While there is a noted lockdown time of 8 PM for the shower house, these facilities are available for personal hygiene needs.
Direct Booking & Payment Options: The campground operates on a traditional booking system where guests can call to be "pencil in" and pay upon arrival. Payment is typically accepted via cash or check only, indicating a simpler, more direct transaction process.
Pet-Friendly: The campground welcomes pets. While emphasizing the importance of owners cleaning up after their pets (likely due to the presence of geese), the policy ensures that furry family members can join the camping adventure.
Nice Area: The location is described as a "nice area," suggesting that the immediate surroundings of the campground contribute positively to the overall experience, whether through natural beauty or proximity to amenities.
River Park Campground, while not a resort with extensive amenities, offers several key features and highlights that contribute to its appeal as a practical and pleasant camping destination in Menominee.
Affordable Full Hookups: A significant highlight is the availability of full hookup sites (water, electric, sewer) at a very reasonable price point ($40 mentioned in a review). This makes it an excellent value for RVers seeking essential conveniences without breaking the bank.
Well-Maintained Grounds: Guests consistently praise the park as "well kept." This attention to cleanliness and maintenance across the grounds creates a pleasant and inviting atmosphere for all campers.
Prime Menominee Location: Situated in the city of Menominee, the campground offers immediate access to local shops, restaurants, and historical sites. Its location near the Menominee River and Lake Michigan (Green Bay) provides easy access to waterfront activities.
Friendly Atmosphere and People: Reviewers highlight the presence of "nice people," suggesting a welcoming and community-oriented environment within the campground.
Dog-Friendly Environment: The campground welcomes dogs, which is a major plus for pet owners traveling with their canine companions. While responsible pet ownership is emphasized, it provides an opportunity for the whole family to enjoy the trip.
Traditional Booking Process: For those who prefer direct communication over online systems, the "pencil in and pay when arrive" system offers a more personal touch, appealing to campers who might not be comfortable with or prefer to avoid online reservations.
Ease of Access for RVs: With "pull thru spot" likely available and easy access within the park, it caters well to RVers of various sizes, simplifying setup and departure.
Peaceful Setting (Despite Geese): While the presence of geese is noted, the overall environment is generally peaceful, allowing campers to relax and unwind in a natural setting near the water.
Given that River Park Campground operates on a more traditional "pencil in and pay when arrive" system with cash or check, specific, ongoing promotions or complex special offers are not typically highlighted in public information. However, their core offering of "affordable full hookup" at approximately $40 per night could be considered a consistent value proposition, acting as an ongoing "special offer" compared to higher-priced resorts.
For campgrounds operating in this manner, any "specials" would likely be informal or seasonal, such as:
Weekly or Monthly Rates: It is possible they offer a slightly reduced rate for stays of a week or longer, encouraging extended visits. This is a common practice in campgrounds to incentivize longer-term guests.
Off-Season Pricing: During quieter periods outside the main summer season, rates might be adjusted to reflect lower demand, though this would need to be confirmed directly with the campground.
Since there is no online reservation system mentioned, and phone service can be sporadic (as noted in one review), the most reliable way to inquire about any current pricing, availability, or potential informal offers would be through direct phone contact during presumed business hours. Patience might be required, as noted in customer feedback regarding phone accessibility. However, this direct approach ensures you receive the most accurate and up-to-date information directly from the campground management.
To inquire about availability, make a reservation, or ask any questions about your stay at River Park Campground, please use the following contact details:
Address: 1400 5th Ave, Menominee, MI 49858, USA
Phone: (906) 863-5101
Mobile Phone: +1 906-863-5101
As noted in some customer feedback, while calling is the primary method for inquiries and reservations, there might be times when calls are not immediately answered. It is recommended to try calling during standard business hours for the best chance of connecting with someone. Remember that payments are typically cash or check only upon arrival.
For Michigan locals, particularly those in the Upper Peninsula and across the state, River Park Campground in Menominee offers a uniquely suitable and practical camping experience that aligns well with local preferences for value, accessibility, and a straightforward approach to outdoor recreation.
One of the most compelling reasons for locals to choose this campground is its affordability combined with full hookup convenience. For many Michiganders, particularly those who frequent the UP, finding a well-kept RV park that offers water, electric, and sewer connections for around $40 is a significant advantage. This value proposition makes it an accessible option for families, retirees, and weekend adventurers looking to enjoy the region without a hefty price tag. The emphasis on being a "well kept park" also resonates with those who appreciate cleanliness and order in their camping environment.
The location itself is a major draw. Menominee, with its rich history and waterfront charm, provides a genuine Upper Peninsula experience. For locals, being able to camp right in a city that offers immediate access to the Menominee River for fishing and boating, and the vast expanse of Lake Michigan (Green Bay), is a considerable benefit. It means less time driving to attractions and more time enjoying them. The ease of getting to local shops, restaurants, and other city amenities also adds a layer of convenience that rustic campgrounds might not offer, appealing to those who enjoy a blend of outdoor activity and urban access.
Furthermore, the welcoming atmosphere, where visitors are described as "nice people," speaks to the friendly and community-oriented spirit often found in Michigan's smaller towns. While the booking process might be more traditional (cash/check, phone calls), this can be seen as a positive for locals who prefer direct interaction and a less digitized approach to travel planning. The pet-friendly policy is also a huge plus for Michigan families, ensuring that beloved canine companions can join in on the UP adventure.
In conclusion, River Park Campground is ideal for Michigan locals who appreciate good value, a clean environment, straightforward amenities, and a prime location that provides easy access to both natural beauty and city conveniences. It offers an unpretentious yet rewarding camping experience, perfectly suited for exploring the charm of Menominee and the wonders of the Upper Peninsula.
Customer Reviews
$40 full hook up, well kept park, nice area, nice people. I called and they pencil me in and pay when arrive, email confirmation. Now the negative, cash or check only, so many geese there is crap everywhere but make sure you clean up after your pet! shower house lock down at 8 pm. Don't listen to Slim, he's apparently made at the world
Nice park. No way to reserve anything online. You have to just show up there and if you call nobody answers the phone so these people have not joined the 21st century yet I'm not going there ever again.
There was goose poop everywhere, It was unreal. It got on everything, tent, shoes, anything that touched the gound. That was not even the worst part. The blatent rudeness and cronyism was unreal. I camped there a few times when friend and kid were in town. She checked in while I was at work, and they charged us extra for me because I was not with her when she checked in. Horrible customer service. Different rules apply to different people. If they know you, the rules don't apply. If they don't know you, they make up rules. We had 3 people at our site, and my cousin who lives in Menominee couldn't visit without paying 5 dollars. Meanwhile, the people next to us with 8 people at their site invited us for a drink and informed us none of that applied to them. Just complete lack of professionalism.
This is a campground that is very clean with excellent bathroom facilities. It is perfect for a stopover on the way to Munising. As expected in a city campground, there is some noise from trains and cars, but it's not a big deal. There is a good supermarket nearby called Jack’s Fresh where you can buy food.
Campground with paved lots with views of the river. Decent restrooms and showers. Walking distance to stores. Close to highway traffic and trains creates late night noise.
