Riverbend Campground, located in the charming and accessible town of Leeds, Maine, stands out as a true riverfront paradise for both the casual overnight camper and the dedicated seasonal RVer. For local Mainers and those who consider the Pine Tree State their summer home, this destination offers a unique and desirable blend of serene natural beauty and modern, family-friendly amenities. Nestled along the banks of the deep and wide Dead River, the campground is more than just a place to park an RV or pitch a tent; it is a full-service recreational hub that serves as the perfect basecamp for exploring Central Maine's abundant outdoor attractions.
The core appeal of Riverbend Campground lies in its connection to the water. The Dead River, which borders the property on its west and south sides, offers prime opportunities for fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and boating. Crucially, this river flows directly into the magnificent Androscoggin Lake, allowing campers easy access to a large, beautiful body of water for paddle-boarding and more extensive boating adventures.
Riverbend fosters a welcoming and vibrant community atmosphere. As evidenced by many long-term visitors, the campground attracts a large number of seasonal guests who set up comfortable, well-kept summer retreats, complete with decks, screen rooms, and personalized touches. This seasonal population creates a familiar, neighborhood feel, where folks often return year after year, building a strong community spirit from Memorial Day through Columbus Day weekend. While this close-knit nature can sometimes lead to an overabundance of local self-policing—a common characteristic in many established seasonal communities—the management strives to ensure a friendly and respectful environment for all, balancing the needs of long-term residents with the comfort of transient guests. Ultimately, Riverbend Campground provides an inviting, full-featured outdoor escape, perfectly suited to the Maine spirit of relaxation and adventure.

The accessibility is a major selling point for those traveling with RVs or seeking supplies and services. The campground is located just twenty miles west of Augusta, which is Maine's capital city. This short drive means quick access to major retail chains, larger medical facilities, and government services. Furthermore, the Lewiston-Auburn (L/A) area, another significant regional hub, is also within easy reach, offering diverse dining, shopping, and entertainment options.

Super awesome place! Huge riverfront well-groomed sites with water and electric. Even special riverfront for those that didn't get a waterfront site. Big nice playground area. Great price on propane fill for RV. No line at dump station or propane. Everybody super friendly. Got half dozen TV stations without an antenna. Good phone signal. Many longer term people with porches, decks, screen rooms - allwell kept. Two different laundromats, both clean. Dumpster handy for trash. Store had good selection, including milk, eggs, water , ice cream... Quiet, peaceful, serene, inviting, an absolute delight. Place to park trailers or boats. The regulars start living there around memorial day weekend and exit around Columbus day, many keeping their RVs there. Tempting place to spend summers there instead of Florida...
Sep 29, 2019 · Julie PhillipsI stopped in today tired, needing a camp spot, a shower and bed. I was greeted in a friendly manner and directed to my spot. I drove around twice stopping well before kids on their bikes and others playing were out of the road as well as campers settling in. I returned to the office because my spot was unmarked with no picnic table. As I got clarification there was none, a fellow camper came barging in saying I need to obey the speed limit asking if that is my truck and how someone needs to give me a talking to. I accused him of lying. I spoke with the management and got a refund. Unfortunately, there are seasonal people there that over police the campground. I felt he his actions were disrespectful and don’t know what his issue was. Hopefully, the manager will review the video surveillance footage and see that I was stopping regularly for pedestrians as well as campers checking in. Heck the person that checked in after me got to their camp spot before I did. Why wasn’t seasonal campground cop not chewing them out. I just don’t get it.
Jul 25, 2025 · John LaFosseSuch large beautiful sites. Well manicured, clean, and friendly. They have all the supplies you may need at the store and propane on premises as well as RV repair if you need it. I've loved being a seasonal camper for over 3 years and now love working here to, it is home.
Jun 16, 2017 · Laura DominiczakFewer sites than alot of places, but don't like wall to wall anyway ample space and grassy has a store and pool.I can usually guarantee to spot some sort of wildlife on the river which is my main interest in camping, like to kayak and bird watch , especially for herons which I have always been lucky to spot.
Jul 13, 2023 · Carol DeckerIt's not bad the pool is small closes at 8 pm. Small restrooms but they are available and clean. Issue with brown tail moths or I would have given more stars possibly.
