Birches Lakeside Campground is a privately owned and operated gem that provides a classic lakefront camping experience. It’s a versatile spot accommodating a variety of guests, from those who prefer the comforts of a full-hookup RV site to families enjoying the charm of a rustic cabin or the seclusion of a wilderness tent site. Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway, a week-long family vacation, or are looking for a seasonal spot, Birches is set up to ensure a comfortable and memorable stay right here in Kennebec County. The atmosphere is notably family-friendly, drawing repeat visitors who appreciate the balance of essential amenities and genuine Maine wilderness experience.
It is important for visitors to note that the campground is primarily for those renting a spot for an RV, camper, or a rental cabin/cottage. Location and Accessibility
Birches Lakeside Campground boasts a prime spot on the southeastern shore of Lake Cobbosseecontee, one of Central Maine's largest and most celebrated bodies of water. The location in Litchfield, ME, places it conveniently between two major hubs: just south of Augusta, Maine's capital, and north of the Lewiston/Auburn area. This central positioning makes it an easy drive for residents across Southern and Central Maine, allowing for quick, hassle-free escapes from city or town life.
The official address for GPS and directions is: 201 Norris Point Rd, Litchfield, ME 04350, USA.
Access to the campground is typically via local roads off of major routes like I-95. While the final stretch involves traveling down Norris Point Road, a characteristic Maine dirt road, it ultimately leads to an exceptional waterfront experience. The ease of access for RVs and trailers is a key consideration, and the campground can accommodate large rigs, including those with slide-outs, making it a truly "Big Rig Friendly" option for RV enthusiasts.
Lake Cobbosseecontee itself is a destination, an expansive 5,500-acre lake renowned for its exceptional smallmouth and largemouth bass fishing, with depths plunging to 100 feet. The lake's irregular shape features numerous coves and islands, providing a beautiful backdrop and endless opportunities for exploration by boat or paddle. Notably, the lake is home to Ladies Delight Lighthouse, Maine's only active inland waters lighthouse.

Birches Lakeside Campground on Cobbosseecontee Lake is a small, RV/camper and cabin rental campground. You can not go there unless you are renting a spot for a camper or RV or are renting a cabin. Or you are a friend or family member of someone staying there and pay $8 per person. My parents drove their RV up from Florida this summer and staid there for a couple of months. It was fun. There is a small sand beach, boat docks, a small convenience store, a small playground. It was pretty crowded end of July into August. Then started to die down as August commenced. My parents have already rented a spot for a couple of months next summer. 👍😎🤿
Sep 21, 2025 · Bailey WheeldenWe were greeted on the 29th of June for our 1 week stay with great plesantry. We stayed at cabin 3 a very cute and comfortable cabin. We loved the location and how close we were to the beach and the store. We were especially pleased with the puppy stations and that were always equipped with bags and the bins were never overfilled. Staffed drove around at least 4 times a day picking up trash and keeping the area spotless. They always greeted the guest with a smile and a wave. We especially enjoyed the store and the supplies and food they had. The "pizza" was fantastic and we highly recommended it. We hope to go again next year!! ❤️ Jim/Pat and Oreo
Jul 15, 2025 · Patricia MalcuitPretty little campground. We tent camped for one night on our way through and got a newly renovated packed sand site well away from the action. Seasonal trailer area is a little village, but clean toilets and showers and an outdoor sink with hot water were appreciated.
Jul 21, 2025 · Cam FoxWorst camping trip of my life. They put us in a swamp, and theres no fires, accordingly to maine state fire laws; which i understood. But a heads up would have been nice because i had my young grandchild , and had to put rocks in her pocket so the misquitos wouldnt carry her away. Plenty of open campsites, not sure why we were stuck there. There was multiple bees nest over the small campsite, so it was crazy. Staff was nice, but rarely saw them. I would not recommend
Aug 27, 2025 · Dawn HughesStaff was super friendly, the campsites were clean, and there were lots of fun things going on. My girls loved the train ride, the playground, and the beach area. Took a star off because there were a LOT of bees in our campsite.
