Introduction / Overview

Sand Springs Campground is a well-regarded camping destination located in Morgantown, West Virginia, known for its serene atmosphere and natural beauty. Described by visitors as "a beautiful campground tucked away in the WV mountains" and "very quiet," it appeals to those seeking a peaceful outdoor experience. The campground offers spacious, "heavily wooded/shaded" sites, providing a sense of privacy and natural ambiance. While many sites may not be perfectly level, requiring "extra blocks to level our motor home," this is a common characteristic of campgrounds nestled in mountainous terrain and a small inconvenience for the benefit of a natural setting. Families will appreciate the amenities, including a "clean and enjoyable" pool and playground. The laundry room is noted as small, with limited machines, which is a practical detail for longer stays. Customer interactions seem generally positive, with one visitor praising the "very friendly" lady at check-in who "walked outside to show us where to go." However, there was an isolated comment about a less friendly staff member on a different day, suggesting varied individual experiences. Despite a mention of a "sewage smell when out walking" in certain areas, campers largely found their individual sites unaffected. Overall, Sand Springs Campground is highlighted as a "nice, quiet campground" perfect for those looking to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings of West Virginia.

A beautiful campground tucked away in the WV mountains. Very quiet. The sites are spacious and heavily wooded/shaded. Many are not level. We needed extra blocks to level our motor home and noticed that those around us did so also. The pool and playground were clean and enjoyable. The laundry room was small, with only two washing machines and dryers. We enjoyed our stay.

Stayed a weekend here. It was early season so the pool wasn’t open yet, but looked to be a decent size. The grounds are nice and wooded, and very quiet. I loved the fire pits made of stone, which allowed larger pieces of wood compared to other campgrounds with metal rings. We did not use the bathhouses at all. We did smell the sewage smell when out walking as others stated, but at our site we didn’t smell it at all. The water pressure was low at times. The playground is geared more towards smaller kids I think, but the 6 year old with us enjoyed the swings. The arcade is suitable enough for some entertainment as well. The lady at check in was great, very friendly, walked outside to show us where to go. The lady working Saturday seemed like she didn’t want to be there and put off a bad vibe unfortunately. We would like to come back during season to see the tree growth and have nicer weather. It rained the weekend we came. All in all a nice, quiet campground.

We stayed here for 4 nights over Memorial Day weekend. Another RV had trouble leveling on their site so we got moved. If I wanted the site next to the bath house, I would have picked that site so that was frustrating. The sites near us were filled with weeds where there could be grass. The trees are infested with inch worms so we found them (and their poop) all over us and our stuff. I get that it’s the woods but we camp all the time and this was a first for us. The site reminded me more of what you get when you are dispersed camping, not at a campground. The weather was unseasonably cool and the bathrooms are not heated. There was only one shower in the bath house by our site. It (the shower) wasn’t cleaned the entire time we were there.

This is a peaceful and overall well maintained campground. The front desk staff was friendly. They have an arcade, laundry facility and pool (was under renovation when I was there). The campground is a decent size if you want to go on a walk or short run. The only reason why I gave 4 stars is it was challenging to level because the big gravel rocks on the site. I would love to come back here in the future.

This is a really nice average size campground offering a mix of RV and tent sites. The sites are all nice sized and some are huge. Sites are gravel with grass between. Each site also has a fire pit and picnic table. The roads in the campground are gravel but are in good condition. There is good tree cover throughout the campground. It was actually pretty amazing that with all the trees in the campground the grounds were kept very clean. It shows real pride of ownership. There are two showers and one small laundry room which were a bit outdated but usable. There is also a really nice pool. AT&T cell service was pretty good, Verizon was pretty bad. The staff was very helpful and friendly.
