Dunmore, WV 24934, USA
For those of us in West Virginia who truly appreciate the untouched beauty and tranquility of our wild and wonderful state, Seven Mile Campground in Dunmore, WV, stands out as a hidden gem. Nestled quietly within Pocahontas County, this "amazing little campground" offers a refreshingly peaceful and rustic camping experience, far from the hustle and bustle that can often accompany more developed sites. It’s a place where the sounds of nature prevail, and the simple joys of a campfire under the stars become the highlight of your getaway.
Seven Mile Campground is known for its well-maintained sites and amenities, offering a comfortable yet authentic connection with the outdoors. As one satisfied camper noted, it's an "annual favorite of ours," highlighting its consistent appeal for those seeking a quiet forest retreat. Even on a holiday weekend, visitors have found it to be "still very quiet and peaceful," a testament to its serene atmosphere. While it embraces a more primitive style of camping with pit latrines, the reviews consistently praise their cleanliness, making for a surprisingly comfortable experience. This campground truly embodies the spirit of West Virginia's natural charm, inviting both seasoned campers and those new to the wilderness to discover its unique allure.
Seven Mile Campground is located in Dunmore, WV 24934, deep within the heart of Pocahontas County. This puts it squarely in a prime location for exploring the vast expanses of the Monongahela National Forest and the many outdoor recreation opportunities our state has to offer. Dunmore itself is a small, unincorporated community, contributing to the secluded and peaceful atmosphere that defines this campground.
Access to the campground is relatively straightforward, and it's particularly convenient for those with trailers. Reviewers have highlighted sites #1 and #3 as being "most convenient if you have a trailer," indicating good maneuverability within the campground. While the immediate campground facilities are rustic – featuring pit latrines and no showers directly on-site – essential services are not far away. Just "about a mile up the road," campers can find showers, laundry facilities, Wi-Fi access, a payphone, and maps at the "camp office" or ranger station. This nearby hub provides a crucial connection for those who need it, without detracting from the peaceful, natural setting of the campground itself. The remoteness also means it’s located within the National Radio Astronomy Observatory's "Radio Quiet Zone," ensuring minimal electronic interference and a truly quiet, dark-sky experience – though this also means limited to no cell service for most carriers, which for many is part of the appeal.
Seven Mile Campground operates with a straightforward and highly affordable pricing structure, which is part of its appeal for those seeking a value-oriented camping experience in West Virginia's beautiful wilderness. As of a review from October 2018, the price for a site was noted as $17 per night. While current prices may have adjusted slightly since then, the general feedback indicates that it remains a very cost-effective option for a well-maintained site in a desirable location.
Unlike larger, more commercial campgrounds, Seven Mile Campground typically doesn't run complex promotions or seasonal discounts. Its consistent value proposition is a key part of its draw. Firewood is available for a few dollars, noted as $6 for a generous bundle as of July 2022. It's important to note that payments historically required cash, although with the recent implementation of online preregistration, other payment methods may now be accepted. For the most accurate and up-to-date pricing, and to confirm payment options, it is always best to check their official online preregistration portal or contact the camp office directly. While formal "promotions" in the traditional sense might not be a feature, the inherent affordability and the recently added convenience of online preregistration are themselves significant benefits for campers planning their trips.

The recent addition of online preregistration is a thoughtful upgrade, making it even easier for us to plan our spontaneous fall trips or summer adventures. Seven Mile Campground embodies the quiet beauty and welcoming spirit of West Virginia, making it an excellent choice for a genuine, peaceful outdoor experience right here in our own backyard. It’s a true testament to the "wild and wonderful" that defines our home.
Amazing little campground! We had site #1 and I believe this site, along with site #3 would be the most convenient if you have a trailer. Pit latrine was clean, no bugs and not stinky. There's a little shed with firewood for sale, $6 for a generous bundle as of 07/22. No showers on site, but about a mile up the road there's showers at the camp office, along with laundry, WiFi, a payphone, and maps. We were there on a holiday weekend and it was still very quiet and peaceful. We plan on taking another trip out during the fall.
Jul 04, 2022 · Katie DeekenEDIT Our visit was last year and I wanted to update to say that they now offer online preregistration. ----- This is an annual favorite of ours. I'm going with four stars because this time the composting toilet was exceptionally stinky (it's not usually that bad!) and we had next-site neighbors roll in with a caravan of Jeeps and set up flood lights for the evening. The price on Saturday, 10-06-2018 was $17. It's a great deal for a sweet little place in the forest, but wanted to note it here because you need cash. Firewood is available for a few dollars, but I don't recall exactly how much. Also worth noting that it is first come, first serve but there are other places to stay in the area in the extremely unlikely event that they are full. Overall this is just a beautiful, usually quiet, camp with well-maintained sites and amenities just up the road -- ranger station with ice during certain hours, playground.

Jul 29, 2018 · Michael BeverageClean, well kept camp sites. Keep in mind that this is somewhat rustic. Single, clean vault toilet. Only water is from a pump pitcher well.
Sep 03, 2021 · Norman HartpenceIt was cheap and would have been beautiful if the remains of a hurricanes was not passing through. I want to go back to start gaze.
