For West Virginians who love the convenience of urban amenities combined with direct access to incredible outdoor adventures, Marlinton Creek and Trail Campground offers the best of both worlds. This charming and highly-rated campground is not just a place to park your RV; it's a strategically located haven that allows you to step out of your door and directly onto the famed Greenbrier River Trail, or take a short stroll into the heart of downtown Marlinton. It perfectly caters to self-sufficient travelers who appreciate full hookups and a friendly, responsive host, all while being immersed in the natural beauty and small-town charm that Pocahontas County is celebrated for.
Marlinton Creek and Trail Campground is designed with the modern RVer in mind. While it embraces a minimalist approach to shared facilities, it excels in providing what truly matters: spacious, well-maintained sites with 50 amp electric, water, and sewer connections. This means you have all the comforts of home right inside your camper, making for a truly hassle-free stay. Guests consistently praise the ease of backing into sites, even with larger trailers, and the neatly mowed areas that ensure a pleasant environment. The thoughtfulness extends to details like well-placed fire rings, far enough from your rig to be safe and enjoyable.
What truly distinguishes this campground is its unparalleled location. Imagine being able to walk to a local ice cream shop, browse quaint town stores, or rent a bike for a day on the Greenbrier River Trail—all without needing to move your vehicle. The trail itself, a picturesque rail-trail stretching for miles through stunning scenery, is literally right next door. This makes it an absolute paradise for cyclists, walkers, and nature lovers. And if you're lucky, you might even spot deer wandering through the campground in the mornings, a gentle reminder of the beautiful outdoor space you’re inhabiting.
Managed by a kind and responsive host, Brian, who ensures "everything worked as expected," Marlinton Creek and Trail Campground promises a reliable and pleasant experience. It's an ideal choice for both short getaways to explore the town and longer stays for those on travel assignments or extended vacations. If you're a West Virginian looking for a convenient, comfortable, and friendly RV spot that blends outdoor recreation with local charm, this campground comes highly recommended and truly delivers on its promise of an amazing stay.
Marlinton Creek and Trail Campground boasts an exceptional location that blends urban convenience with immediate access to prime outdoor recreation, making it highly accessible for RV travelers. It is centrally located at 1121 3rd Ave, Marlinton, WV 24954, USA. This address places it not just in Marlinton, but specifically within easy walking distance of the town's charming downtown area. This means visitors can stroll to local shops, restaurants, the historic train station, and even grab an ice cream cone without needing to drive.
The true highlight of its accessibility, and a major draw for visitors, is its direct adjacency to the Greenbrier River Trail. This renowned rail-trail, stretching 78 miles through West Virginia's scenic countryside, runs literally alongside the campground. This provides campers with unparalleled direct access for biking, walking, jogging, and even cross-country skiing in winter, without having to load up bikes or drive to a trailhead. The ease of transitioning from your campsite to miles of picturesque trail is a significant convenience that truly sets this campground apart.
For vehicular access, Marlinton is situated on U.S. Route 219, a well-maintained highway that provides straightforward navigation to the town from various parts of West Virginia and neighboring states. The campground itself is easy to locate once in Marlinton, minimizing any navigational stress, particularly for those driving larger RVs or towing trailers. The sites are designed with ample room for maneuvering, as noted by visitors with 35' trailers and 23' trucks who found it easy to back in. This combination of town proximity and immediate trail access, all serviced by good road connections, makes Marlinton Creek and Trail Campground an exceptionally convenient and desirable location for those looking to explore Pocahontas County.
Marlinton Creek and Trail Campground operates as a private, family-friendly establishment that focuses on providing consistent value and quality service rather than recurring commercial promotions. Based on customer feedback, the pricing is considered fair and economical for the comprehensive full hookup services offered (50 amp electric, water, sewer) and its unparalleled location. While specific, publicly advertised "special offers" such as seasonal discounts or long-term stay promotions are not detailed in available information, prospective guests are always encouraged to contact the campground directly. Given the responsive and kind nature of the host, Brian, inquiring about rates for extended stays (like the "little over a month" experienced by travel medical professionals) or potential off-peak deals via phone at (304) 646-1832 would be the best approach. The primary "promotion" of this campground is its excellent, reliable service and prime location at a competitive price point, making it a valuable choice for RVers in West Virginia.
For West Virginians, Marlinton Creek and Trail Campground offers a perfectly tailored camping experience that harmonizes with their active lifestyles and appreciation for local charm. This campground is exceptionally suitable for locals because it provides the ultimate convenience of full RV hookups (50 amp electric, water, sewer), allowing residents to truly enjoy a comfortable "home away from home" without having to travel far. This makes it an ideal spot for quick weekend getaways or even as a convenient base for those on longer-term work assignments within the state.
The primary draw for West Virginians, especially those from within the state, is the campground's unparalleled access to the Greenbrier River Trail. This beloved rail-trail is a local treasure, and having it literally at your doorstep means easy access for biking, walking, and running, often without the need to load up gear into a vehicle. This direct access fosters a spontaneous outdoor experience that resonates with the active and nature-loving spirit of many West Virginians. Furthermore, the ability to walk into downtown Marlinton for local ice cream, dining, or to explore the historic train station connects campers directly with the vibrant, yet laid-back, small-town culture that is so characteristic of West Virginia.
The personal touch from host Brian, ensuring everything works as expected and providing a welcoming environment, aligns perfectly with West Virginia's renowned hospitality. The affordability, combined with the comprehensive amenities offered, provides excellent value, making a relaxing and adventurous getaway accessible to local budgets. Amazing stay!!! My partner were here for a little over a month on travel medical jobs, and we couldn’t have found a better place to stay. You are within walking distance of everything in town (10 minutes or so to the opposite side), including ice cream, bike rentals, and the Greenbriar Trail. Deer are wandering most mornings. Such a beautiful outdoor space. Everything worked as expected. Brian is a kind, responsive host. Would highly recommend!
Sep 04, 2024 · Amy WysongMy family camped here for 2 nights in April. There was plenty of room for our 35' trailer and 23' truck. We were in site #6 and it was easy to back into. The campground is right by the Greenbrier River Trail which is why we were there. We had 50 amp electric, water, sewer, and a picnic table which is all we needed. There really isn't anything else here. No playground, bath house, not even a trash dumpster. The sites were mowed nicely and had a great fire ring that was far enough away to not burn the camper. Marlinton is a neat little town. We walked up the street for ice cream and to look at the old train station. I'd highly recommend this campground.
Apr 27, 2025 · Matthew Huffman5 STARS - AMAZING FIND!! Such a great wee gem. Campground basically backs onto the Greenbrier bicycle Rail to Trail path. Deer, deer, deer and more deer visit the campground morning and evening to eat the apples from the trees. The yellow flowers that encompass the campground are stunning when in bloom. The campground is very accessible for rigs of all sizes. Sites are flat. There is no bathhouse, which is more than fine. There is a laundry facility, Bubbles just a couple of blocks away, walkable. The Verizon signal is strong. No wifi or cable. Full hookups, firepit and large picnic table. I wish more campgrounds were like this! The town is also walkable from the campground. The weekly flyover from the Airforce Jets was always fun to watch. The campground is such a great hub to visit the surrounding areas of Snowshoe, Cass Historic Railway, Green Bank Telescope and several state parks. The owner of the campground is such a nice guy, would definitely stay there again if back in this area.
