Introduction / Overview
For local Nebraskans and travelers exploring the heart of the state, Streeter Park Campground in Aurora, Nebraska, is often hailed as a hidden gem—a unique offering from the City of Aurora that combines convenience with community spirit. This campground provides a simple, no-frills, yet highly functional and exceptionally budget-friendly stopover for RVs and other campers. Operating on a voluntary donation system, Streeter Park is less of a destination resort and more of a practical and generous service for those needing a clean, safe place to rest and recharge for a few nights.
The philosophy here is simple: provide essential hookups and a pleasant environment, and encourage guests to support the park and the local community with a suggested donation (typically around $15 per night). This honor system is what makes Streeter Park stand out in the Nebraska camping landscape. Located within the larger Streeter Park complex, campers have immediate access to recreational facilities, a short walk to local dining, and an easy drive to major area attractions. While it is best suited for shorter stays—with a maximum stay limit of four days—its generous amenities make it a highly valuable asset to the traveling community.
The campground features approximately 18 gravel sites, many of which offer electric and water connections. While the sites are often noted to be close together, creating a cozy atmosphere, the proximity to a full city park environment—complete with walking paths, ball fields, and a playground—compensates by providing ample space for activity just outside your campsite. It's a testament to small-town generosity and a highly recommended option for anyone passing through the Hamilton County area.
Location and Accessibility
Streeter Park Campground is conveniently located in the city of Aurora, Nebraska, making it an excellent stop for those traveling along the state’s key routes, though it requires a short drive north from Interstate 80. The physical address is within the Streeter Park boundaries in Aurora, NE 68818, USA, and it sits just off of Highway 34, the main thoroughfare through town. This location means quick and easy access from major roads and direct proximity to local services.
Accessibility is a major highlight, as the campground is situated near downtown Aurora. Campers can easily walk across the street to access essential services and local dining options, including highly-recommended local restaurants and a convenience store/mini-mart with a cheap gas station. This walkability is a significant convenience for RVers who prefer not to unhook their tow vehicles for a simple overnight stay. For those towing a rig, the entry and exit are straightforward, though campers should be aware that all sites are back-in, and it is highly recommended to unhook the tow vehicle to manage the relatively tighter spaces.
Visitors should be advised that upon entering the park, the best path to the campground involves an immediate right turn followed by an immediate left to find the campsites, which are located next to the aquatic facility. The campground is also near a train track, but reviews consistently mention that any noise from the occasional train horn is minimal and not disruptive to sleep, which is a key consideration for overnight travelers.
Services Offered
The services provided at Streeter Park Campground are remarkable, especially considering the suggested donation basis of the park. These offerings ensure a high degree of self-sufficiency for RV and tent campers.
Features / Highlights
The true appeal of Streeter Park Campground lies in its integration within a vibrant city park, offering a range of recreational and local conveniences that are rare in a simple stopover spot.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
For Nebraskans, Streeter Park Campground is an exceptional community resource that embodies small-town generosity. It is uniquely suitable for local residents and those from surrounding towns for several key reasons. Firstly, it provides an unbeatable value proposition for a short, no-cost family getaway. A local family can load up their RV for a weekend, enjoy free water and electricity, and spend their budget on local entertainment like the Aquatic Facility or dining at local restaurants, thereby contributing directly to the Aurora economy.
Secondly, it serves as an extremely convenient base camp for local sporting events. With softball fields and other recreational amenities right on-site, a family traveling to Aurora for a youth sports tournament can set up their camper with ease and avoid the cost and inconvenience of a hotel stay. Finally, for those Nebraskans who own an RV or travel trailer, Streeter Park is the perfect, stress-free stopover point when commuting across the state, ensuring a clean and secure spot with essential services provided by a welcoming city. It's a community asset that locals should be proud of and utilize often for short, convenient, and affordable recreational opportunities.
Great lil spot tucked away. Not many campers, was worried that our 40ft wouldn't fit, but it did. Parked in the spot without the hookups but was only staying a night so it was fine. Playground was nice. Bring mosquito spray, they are thick out here! Nice lil walk too around the park. Not far, circles the campground. Enough for a 3 year old to only say carry me once lol I also recommend walking up to jo jos grill, super cool robot delivers your food to your table. Would come again. Donation based. The pool was not open memorial day wknd, might have been because its raining, not sure but would have been too cold to visit anyway. 5 stars, would come again passing thru.
Jul 12, 2025 · trinity 4599Ok so I read all the other reviews and they're all correct to a degree. The good, it's amazing that this place exists it's an honor system to camp here and get mostly FHU. Even if you don't get a FHU most of the spots have ews some ew and so on. There is a sewer, dump, water and trash dumpster right at the entrance to the campground. Please donate what you can $15 is suggested. When you enter the park it can be confusing but as soon as you enter turn right then immediate left. Pick a spot then go over to the info board where you'll find envelopes for a donation. This is not a destination campground 1 or 2 nights is plenty. Right across the street are a couple of restaurants I highly highly recommend the Mexican place, great food reasonable prices and huge portions. You can order ahead and then walk over across the street and it will be ready to go or just dine in. There is a cheap gas station Mini Mart across the street. Easy in and out if your towing. If your towing you will have to unhook to camp all the spots are back in there's only 30 amp btw. Now for the negative... As was previously mentioned there are a couple local folks tent camping at the end, they will give you the "this is our place so don't even think about camping at the end look" I think they're harmless just don't camp at the far end if they're present? Didn't faze me at all."There but for the grace of God" right? We camped there late Sept on a Saturday night and I was worried we wouldn't get a spot but there were several open spots and we parked in spot 1 FHU with a space between us and the next campers. There is a nearby train track they do occasionally toot the horn but it's not bad at all. I slept all night no problem. If your in the area don't hesitate it's not bad at all especially if you need a stopover with electric, water and even an extra dump if needed. Like someone else said I wish there were more places like this. Kudos to the city of Aurora.
Sep 22, 2025 · Gary BateAurora is the cutest little town and this campground was well worth the stop! Free with water, electric, sewer hookups. There's a bathroom right by the water park too. Each site has a picnic table and felt nice and protected with trees. Everything was clean and you can tell that this town cares about their community!
Jul 24, 2025 · Bethany GleasonThe campground itself was very nice: water, electric, and sewage hookups; a clean restroom with running water; and picnic tables. What WASN'T nice were the people who were deliberately leaving trash around the campground (e.g. cigarette butts, beer bottle caps, batteries), "marking" their "territory" (e.g. leaving dirty car mats or soda cans on the picnic tables so other people can't use that spot), or just walking by staring creepily at everyone else (there were at least two old men who kept staring at my husband and I every time they strode past us). Apparently, even if you specifically state that only a four-day stay is permitted or alcohol is prohibited, people will take that as a suggestion if the rules aren't enforced. Some people were using that spot as a permanent residence, and were giving dirty looks to anyone they considered as "trespassing" on "their property." The landscapers don't remove the litter and the people leaving trash don't adhere to the "leave no trace" rule. As nice as the campground is, the shady characters make it hard to feel safe, even with the parking lot lights on.
Aug 29, 2025 · preamble2personaStopped here heading home to Georgia from Wyoming. Very nice park. Electricity and water hookups plus a dump station. Nice walking trails. Only negative is there's a good bit of railroad noise overnight. They just ask for donations.
