For Pennsylvania residents seeking a reliable and comfortable camping experience in the renowned Pocono Mountains, Thousand Trails Timothy Lake South stands out as a favored destination. This resort offers a more modern, tranquil approach to the traditional campground, specifically designed to cater to the needs of contemporary RV travelers while still providing a scenic backdrop for a relaxing getaway. Unlike many seasonal parks in the region, Timothy Lake South is proudly open year-round, offering an invaluable retreat opportunity no matter the month—whether you’re enjoying the vibrant fall foliage, the peaceful winter snows, or the bustling summer season.
Positioned just a short distance from its sister property, Timothy Lake North, the South campground has cultivated an atmosphere of peace and quiet. It's particularly popular with those who own larger RVs, as the sites are intentionally designed to accommodate the biggest Class A motor coaches and fifth-wheel travel trailers. This focus on accessibility and comfort for big rigs is a major plus for the local RV community in Pennsylvania. The resort aims to provide all the conveniences of home while immersing guests in the natural beauty of the Poconos, making it an ideal choice for both short-term vacations and extended seasonal stays.
As with any large, high-traffic resort, prospective visitors should manage expectations based on recent camper experiences. While the sites themselves are often praised for being spacious and well-graveled, some guests have noted that facility maintenance, particularly for older bathhouses, can be inconsistent. Additionally, while the atmosphere is generally quiet and relaxed, the experience with staff has received mixed reviews, with some campers reporting a desire for more accommodating assistance, especially regarding group site placement. Pennsylvania locals will find, however, that the generally strong community spirit among fellow campers helps ensure a friendly and supportive environment for all who visit.
Thousand Trails Timothy Lake South is strategically located at 2043 Allegheny Ln, East Stroudsburg, PA 18302, placing it squarely in the heart of the Pocono Mountains’ most visited areas. This prime location is easily accessible for residents of Eastern and Central Pennsylvania, offering a convenient drive from major metropolitan areas like Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Allentown, and the greater Philadelphia region.
The resort’s immediate surroundings are characterized by the natural beauty of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, which begins just a few miles away. This provides local campers with effortless access to some of Pennsylvania’s best hiking, rock climbing, and outdoor activities. Nearby local attractions that make this a valuable base camp include the famous Bushkill Falls, known as the 'Niagara of Pennsylvania,' and various opportunities for boating and fishing. Furthermore, the commercial hub of downtown Stroudsburg, with its selection of restaurants, specialty shops, and art galleries, is only a short drive away, allowing guests to balance nature exploration with convenient access to town amenities.
A unique and highly advantageous feature for Timothy Lake South guests is the reciprocal amenity use with its sister property, Timothy Lake North, which is situated just one mile away. This dual-resort setup effectively doubles the recreational options available to visitors, blending the South’s quieter, more tranquil setting with the North's typically more active complex of facilities. The internal roads are known to accommodate large RV units, though drivers should be mindful of the occasional pothole and narrow spot as reported by the camping community.
Thousand Trails Timothy Lake South is built upon a foundation of comprehensive services, focusing on providing maximum convenience and comfort for the RV community and vacation renters.

Pet-Friendly Policy: The resort welcomes pets, making it easier for Pennsylvania locals to bring their entire family on vacation (note: some restrictions and fees may apply, especially for rentals).

Thousand Trails Timothy Lake South is exceptionally suitable for Pennsylvania locals, offering a compelling mix of convenience, year-round access, and a tranquil atmosphere. For those living within driving distance of the Poconos, this campground acts as an accessible, high-value second home and a reliable family retreat.
Its primary advantage for the local community is its commitment to the RV lifestyle, providing full hookup sites large enough for any unit. This eliminates the uncertainty often found at public campgrounds and provides peace of mind for big rig owners. Furthermore, the status as an open-all-year resort is a huge draw, allowing local residents to utilize their RVs or seasonal sites for quiet winter weekends or late-season trips without being restricted by the typical mid-fall closures of many other parks.
The tranquility of Timothy Lake South, often cited by campers, offers the perfect environment for locals who truly want to disconnect from their busy professional lives and reconnect with nature. It’s a less frenetic environment than its sister property, making it ideal for peaceful relaxation after a day of exploring the nearby Delaware Water Gap and local attractions like Bushkill Falls.
Crucially, the option for seasonal or annual sites provides an affordable, personalized way for Pennsylvanians to own a dedicated, ready-made vacation spot in the Poconos. While some challenges exist with staff accommodation and facility upkeep, the overall quietude, the robust amenities (including those at the nearby North campground), and the year-round availability make Timothy Lake South a highly practical and deeply cherished home away from home for the local Pennsylvania camping community.

Campground is nice, most sites are a nice size. Ours had plenty of gravel and was well taken care of. Bath house was in rough shape and not very clean. Staff is not very accommodating, we stayed with a group of 2 other campers and we requested sites close together but were separated, even though there were multiple open sites the entire weekend right beside both of us so we could have been all together.
Jul 06, 2025 · John HalbleibRv site was level ..plenty of room ..firepit full of cigarette butts....bathrooms,showers etc ... work but very old Some pot holes ...just have to be careful... entering the camp ground, we are use to more friendly helpful people but the campers were more helpful then staff. Very quiet campground
Sep 06, 2025 · Julie FigueiredoThis is the worst camp ground I have ever been to. We checked in at 6pm which is considered late here. No welcome packet. Just a map with gate code and site number. Go to our site and someone is in it. No return call from the ranger so we took the one next to it. We are between two ditches. The bath house is disgusting. No cell service so we had to pay the $5 for shitty campground wifi. I am trying to add pictures of the ditch and overgrown “fire pit”
Jul 16, 2025 · Katie NovakTimothy Lake South Campground near East Stroudsburg PA. We have been here a few times. This is a good campground. The roads are paved with only a few potholes. Facilities are keep clean and they have done some upgrades to the bathhouses (they were ok before). This is a very quiet campground. Other campers are very nice. Access to the campground does require some uphill travel but the roads are safe with little challenge. Wireless service here is very limited and the pay option wifi is slow at best. Most sites are wooded but very accessible with a huge number being pull through spots. There is a pool and laundry on site. The pool is well maintained and the laundry is clean. There are not a lot of planned activities here, it's more of a chill campground and go enjoy the numerous nature walks, waterfalls and fishing areas. Grass cutting could be a lot better. The sites themselves are generally semi level. Sites set ups are really good as most of not all are full hok up with 30 and 50 amp available. The utility hookups are generally near the middle of the driver's side of each site. Sewer hook ups are solid and easy to run your stinky slinky to. Water pressure is good and I have never had a power issue here in my 5 visits. Issues I had are with Thousand Trails site assignment. They "are booked full" but over half the sites are empty everyday. I got a site in full sun and they refused to move me to a shaded site. The staff was just not willing to work to rearrange to accommodate my request.
Jul 25, 2025 · William FisherPotholes throughout the park, one bathhouse closed with no explanation (a screw lodged in between edge of mens and womens door to prevent entry. Second bathhouse in serious need of repair: flooring in dire need of being repainted, caulking around base of commode looked real nasty, soap dispenser empty for more than 2 weeks, a front door that wouldn't close, letting in mosquitoes, no paper towels dispenser (only a wall mounted hand dryer), a single bathroom stall, with missing wall tile, no ventilation, so you start sweating after you dry off after your shower. One of the 2 shower stalls had a door that barely opened to get inside. The second shower stall was jokingly labeled as handicapped, had a rusted out shower caddy, a filthy soap receptacle, and removable shower head too high to reach fr anyone in a wheelchair, no grab bars ( 2 are recommended), and no seat or bench, inside. One camper told me that the owners are only interested in profit, and let everything run down. To make matters worse, I was assigned to n RV pad, so difficult to back in, that it took me almost 30 minute, only to find out there was no city water hookup. I was then reassigned to another site with a faulty water spigot that I had to contact AJ, the maintenance man, to help me turn it on. He was apparently a new hire with little experience, although he did figure it out. Overall, a very bad experience, after being very tired after a long drive to get to the Park, getting later and later towards sunset, unavoidable, because Scotrun was booked up, which is always in much better shape.
