For many Pennsylvania residents, the Pocono Mountains represent the quintessential weekend escape—a place where the fresh mountain air and scenic landscapes instantly melt away the stresses of city and suburban life. Nestled in this cherished region is Thousand Trails Timothy Lake North, a long-established campground providing a home base for families, couples, and adventurers looking to explore the natural beauty and local attractions of the Poconos.
Since 1981, Timothy Lake North has welcomed campers, predominantly catering to the RV community, but also offering sites for traditional tent camping. As a Thousand Trails property, it operates largely on a membership basis, though non-members can often book stays, making it a flexible option for both dedicated RV travelers and casual weekenders. The campground is designed to provide a resort-style experience that blends a peaceful, natural setting with organized activities and essential facilities. It aims to be more than just a place to park your rig; it’s a community where families can gather and make lasting memories in one of the Commonwealth's biggest tourist areas.
However, as any seasoned local camper knows, no large park is without its operational nuances. Based on recent camper feedback, prospective visitors should be aware of a few key considerations, particularly regarding site selection and facility upkeep. The move to assigned spots, rather than the traditional Thousand Trails practice of letting guests choose their own, has been a point of contention for repeat visitors who value a specific type of secluded site. Furthermore, while the park boasts numerous amenities, guests have noted varying levels of maintenance on facilities like bathhouses and the pool. Being aware of these current operational realities allows local Pennsylvania users to plan ahead and ensure their expectations align with the experience. Timothy Lake North remains a popular choice due to its excellent location and comprehensive offering of recreational features, providing a valuable base camp for the Poconos.
Thousand Trails Timothy Lake North is ideally situated at 6837 Timothy Lake Rd in East Stroudsburg, PA 18302. This location places it perfectly in the heart of the Poconos, offering convenient access to the region's top attractions while maintaining a dedicated, secluded feel away from major urban centers.
The accessibility is a major draw for Pennsylvania travelers, especially those coming from the Philadelphia and New Jersey areas, as the campground is easily reached via major regional highways. The immediate area surrounding the resort is rich with recreational opportunities. Within a short drive, visitors can access the historic downtown Stroudsburg area, which features unique restaurants, shopping, art galleries, and a theater. The scenic Bushkill Falls, often referred to as the 'Niagara of Pennsylvania,' is also nearby, offering stunning hiking and waterfall views. For those interested in motorsports, Pocono Raceway is approximately 45 miles away, making this a strategic stay point during race weekends.
The resort is also notable for its close proximity—just one mile—to its sister property, Thousand Trails Timothy Lake South. Guests often have reciprocal access to amenities at both locations, effectively doubling the available facilities and activities. This dual-resort setup provides expanded options for relaxation and recreation. Guests planning a trip should always verify current access policies between the North and South resorts. The roads within the campground are reported to be paved, which is a significant convenience for RV maneuvering and for activities like bicycling around the grounds. The natural setting means the campground utilizes the surrounding forests and the lake, providing a true Poconos mountain camping atmosphere.
Thousand Trails Timothy Lake North is an RV and family campground that offers a robust set of services designed to make a long stay or a weekend getaway comfortable. Sites are available for both RVs and tents, with options for daily, seasonal, and annual occupancy.
Full Hookup Sites: Many sites offer full hookups, including water, electric (30 Amp and 50 Amp service), and sewer connections, accommodating RVs up to 40 feet in length.
Restrooms and Showers: Centralized facilities are available for all guests. However, recent feedback suggests cleanliness and maintenance levels can fluctuate, so travelers with a self-contained RV might prefer their onboard facilities.
Laundry Facilities: Guests have access to coin-operated laundry facilities, though some reports indicate these amenities might be housed at the nearby Timothy Lake South property.
On-Site Convenience: The campground often features a Country Store/Market and offers firewood for sale, minimizing the need to leave the property for basics.
Dedicated Parking: Tow vehicle parking is available, and the sites are generally reported as spacious enough to accommodate slide-outs.
Fee-Based Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi service is available for a daily fee, providing connectivity for those who need it, though availability and speed may vary throughout the large park area.
The true value of Timothy Lake North lies in its diverse recreational and resort-style features, which make it a highly desirable destination for Poconos visitors looking for entertainment on-site:
Outdoor Swimming Pool: A popular feature for families, though prospective visitors should note that repairs and maintenance may occasionally take the pool out of service, as has been noted in recent guest reviews.
Children's Recreation Area: The park features a children’s playground and recreational fields for games like volleyball and softball, along with a dedicated Kids Activity Center.
Planned Activities: The resort typically offers an activities schedule with various events, dances, and games, often guided by an Activities Director, to keep all age groups engaged.
Lake Access: The campground is set near Timothy Lake, offering opportunities for fishing and boating, enhancing the natural appeal of the setting.
Sports Facilities: Additional recreational amenities include mini-golf, shuffleboard courts, and basketball courts, offering a variety of friendly, competitive activities.
Seasonal/Annual Site Options: A significant highlight is the availability of seasonal and annual sites, which fosters a strong sense of community for repeat visitors who want a guaranteed spot and a familiar group of friends to camp with year after year.

Thousand Trails Timothy Lake North is an excellent option for local Pennsylvania families and RV owners seeking a convenient, amenity-rich campground in the scenic Pocono Mountains. For residents, the resort offers a blend of natural retreat and structured family fun that is difficult to match at state parks or smaller private campgrounds. The key suitability factors are clear:
First, the resort provides all the necessary infrastructure for modern RV travel, including full hookups and wide sites, accommodating everything from small pop-ups to large motorhomes. This convenience means less time setting up and more time relaxing or exploring. Second, the wealth of on-site features, from the playground and volleyball court to the planned activities, ensures that children and families have ample entertainment options without ever needing to leave the resort grounds. This is a significant advantage for multi-generational camping trips.
The option to secure a seasonal or annual site particularly benefits local PA residents, transforming the property from a vacation spot into a reliable, secondary home base in the mountains. This fosters a welcoming community of fellow campers that many long-term residents cherish.
While recent feedback about site assignment changes and maintenance is important to consider, it serves as a valuable local tip: if a specific type of site is crucial to your enjoyment (e.g., a quiet end spot), it is highly advisable to call the office directly using the provided phone number to confirm placement options and current facility status before booking. By doing a little extra planning, Pennsylvania residents can leverage the resort’s great location and comprehensive amenities, ensuring a tailored and enjoyable Poconos camping experience at Thousand Trails Timothy Lake North. The proximity to Stroudsburg’s commercial center, combined with the tranquil setting of the lake and mountains, makes this a reliable and feature-packed getaway destination for the local community.

We’ve been coming here for three yrs it’s always a nice quiet place during the week. This go round I was not pleased about the assigned spots, ( they pick it) the first spot they assigned us was NO way for us to fit, and looked as if it was never used as a camp site. I called they gave us two other options one being in the front which was a no go since the park is close and we didn’t wanna hear kids early in the morning the second was in the middle of other campers which wasn’t bad just not what we pick when we come here. We usually pick an end spot that’s quiet and alone. Go back to picking your own spot or at least have the options of allowing us to pick our spot upon booking. I can’t say anything bad the bath houses as we have a travel trailer. The pool is being repaired atm, the grounds where we camp are clean, could use some mowing and trimming but all in all I like it here however not so sure if we will come back if the spot selection don’t change. If it’s a thousand trails change then that may affect our renewal of our membership. Update 5 other campers weren’t happy with the assigned spots either two of them had to move 3 times due to no water no room or no electricity. Really hope this changes asap. I’ll be calling a head prior to booking to check because I won’t drive 3plus hrs to not enjoy my down time nor continue to pay for something (assigned spot) that I don’t want.
Jun 22, 2025 · Stephanie ColellaThe pool is out of service, the men’s bathhouse, very dirty, one of the toilets has been clogged for weeks. No one is cleaning the bathhouses. They put so much money into updating the bathhouse and they aren’t keeping them clean. What really drives me crazy the bath house door hasn’t had a door closer on it for years. The doors always open bugs like crazy. Very poor up keep by the staff.
Jun 22, 2025 · michael riveraTrash all over grounds. Loud Music all over during wknds. Bathrooms had green mold on mats curtains (not doors for showers) were ripped Spider web and dirt everywhere and that’s the one that works. Side by side and 4 wheelers at site Some one was ridding a dirt bike through the camp ground 4 People had signs in window (f around and find out) in a family campground Hall smells like mold. Ranger never to be found when you Need them Or answers phone Complaints fall on death ears Rules never followed Ghetto ghetto ghetto
May 26, 2025 · Melissa MeachamI love Timothy Lake North such a great campground. I was disappointed the pool was not open and the showers were ice cold in the bath house. I will be back though.
Jul 07, 2025 · Heather MEnjoyed our stay here for the most part. Staff are very friendly and helpful and the store is really quaint and cute. Bathrooms were clean, lake had some good fishing. Other than that, we just wish a little more care was put into some of the common areas like the golf course and pool. Golf course is really dilapidated and you can tell hasn’t been maintained in quite some time. Piles of rocks, leaves, gravel and debris everywhere making it impossible to play. I can’t imagine it’d be a major task to get out there with a leaf blower from time to time. Pool is really cute, but again, falling apart. Bottom is peeling and rough. Bricks around the pool are broken. We found a decent site for our RV, but the campground is mostly seasonals and the majority of the transient spots are tiny or have the electric and sewer on the wrong side. Took us a bit to find one to fit us adequately.
