Camping by the water holds a special allure, offering opportunities for fishing, boating, and simply enjoying the scenic views. Waterway Campground delivers on this promise, described by visitors as a "quiet, well maintained" place with a "fantastic" location right on the Intracoastal Waterway. While it might not be the spot for thrill-seeking young children, it's explicitly recommended for those who "prefer a chill" scene, making it a haven for adults, couples, and avid anglers. Waterway Campground is perfectly positioned at 4641 Devane Rd SW, South Brunswick, NC 28470, USA. This address places it squarely on the picturesque Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) in the heart of Brunswick County, a rapidly growing and highly desirable coastal region of North Carolina.
The campground's direct frontage on the ICW is its most significant locational advantage. This provides campers with immediate access to the waterway for boating, fishing, and enjoying the constant, yet non-intrusive, passage of boat traffic. Despite its tranquil setting, Waterway Campground remains conveniently accessible. It's just a short drive from major roads that connect to nearby beach towns and amenities. For instance, the beautiful beaches of Holden Beach and Oak Island are typically within a 15-20 minute drive, offering a quick escape to the oceanfront for swimming, sunbathing, or exploring.
South Brunswick itself offers a growing number of services. Within a reasonable driving distance, campers will find grocery stores, gas stations, pharmacies, and a selection of local restaurants, ensuring that daily necessities are easily met without venturing far from your peaceful campsite. For those looking for more extensive shopping, dining, or medical facilities, Shallotte, NC, is a nearby hub that provides a broader range of options. This balance of secluded waterfront serenity and convenient access to essential services and popular coastal attractions makes Waterway Campground an ideal choice for North Carolina locals seeking a relaxing and well-connected coastal camping experience. Its ease of access via well-maintained roads ensures a smooth journey for RVs of all sizes.
Waterway Campground focuses on providing essential services that cater to RVers and campers seeking comfort and convenience in a waterfront setting. While maintaining a quiet atmosphere, it ensures guests have the necessary amenities for a pleasant stay.
- Full Hookup RV Sites: The campground offers full hookup sites, which typically include 30/50 amp electric, water, and sewer connections. This is a crucial convenience for RV travelers, allowing for a comfortable and self-sufficient stay without the need for frequent trips to dump stations.
- Waterfront Sites: A significant draw of Waterway Campground is its availability of sites directly on the Intracoastal Waterway. These offer stunning views and direct access to the water, though exact availability of these prime spots should always be confirmed when booking.

- Boat Traffic Views: While not a traditional "service," the constant, non-intrusive "boat traffic in the intercostal behind us" is noted as a "quite nice" feature, providing a dynamic and interesting backdrop to your stay.
It is important to note, as one review suggested, that this campground might not have extensive "thrills" or amenities geared towards very young children beyond fishing, indicating a focus on a more relaxed, adult-oriented camping experience.
Waterway Campground’s true appeal lies in its unique features and the tranquil atmosphere it cultivates, making it a standout choice for specific types of North Carolina campers.

Having your campsite directly on the ICW provides stunning water views, the soothing sounds of the waterway, and immediate access for fishing or simply watching boats pass by. It’s a fantastic backdrop for relaxation.

Specific promotions and special offers for campgrounds like Waterway Campground are typically dynamic and are best obtained by contacting the campground directly. Publicly available information often focuses on the standard rates rather than limited-time deals. Therefore, we cannot list current, specific promotions here.
However, based on typical campground practices in North Carolina, potential promotions or offers might include:
- Seasonal Rates: Campgrounds often adjust rates based on peak season (e.g., summer, holidays) versus off-peak periods. Inquire about potentially lower rates during spring or fall.
- Weekly or Monthly Discounts: For longer stays, many campgrounds offer reduced per-night rates for bookings of a week or a month. Given that a reviewer mentioned staying for "two weeks about four years now," it’s highly probable that such extended-stay rates are available.
- Camping Club Discounts: Some campgrounds partner with national camping clubs (e.g., Good Sam Club, Passport America) to offer discounts to their members. It's worth asking if Waterway Campground participates in any such programs.
- First-Time Visitor Incentives: Occasionally, new visitor specials are offered, although these are less common for established, popular campgrounds.
To get the most accurate and up-to-date information on rates, availability, and any potential special offers, contacting Waterway Campground directly via phone is the most reliable method.

Customer Reviews
My wife and I camped here for a weekend while we visited friends. The campground was quiet, well maintained and the staff was friendly and helpful. There was quite a bit of boat traffic in the intercostal behind us but it was never intrusive and was quite nice. This is a nice spot to just set up and chill but if you have young kids that are interested in thrills that don’t involve fishing, this probably isn’t the spot for you. I don’t say this as a negative thing because it’s just the kind of scene we prefer, just providing information. We recommend Waterway Campground and are likely to return.
We have stayed there for two weeks about four years now. The location right on the Inter Costal Waterway is fantastic. We have always had a good time there.
Nice place. Very neat and clean. We had a space right on the water. NO DISCOUNTS FOR LONG STAYS most of the time. 50/ night is not cheap. Showers and baths worked fine. Spaces are easy to get into as well. Place next door is 600+ month, but they are often full...
I contemplated not reviewing this place to keep it our little secret but this campground deserves all the kudos I can give. First off the view!!! They save all the best sites for non seasonal campers...what campground does that?!?! Amazing right!! Secondly, we work full time from the RV on video calls, 8 hours a day and the internet was AMAZING all week long. Third, everyone is so nice and friendly. It's a very quiet campground and nothing beats the sound and smell of the ocean at night with all the windows open. Lastly...did I mention the view!!! We will for sure be back again!! We even met the owner and she was super nice and wanted to make sure we were enjoying ourselves.
This is the first camp ground my wife and I used after we bought our camper. What a great experience. The managers were awesome and the view was off the hook. Plenty of fishing and boating. The bathroom area was older but functioned well. Lots of hot water that's for sure. Always a nice breeze off the water. Highly recommended. Thanks for an awesome experience.
