Introduction / Overview
For RV enthusiasts and camping families in the New York metropolitan area, finding a quiet, well-positioned campground that balances rustic beauty with essential modern conveniences can be a challenge. Black Bear RV Park, situated in the picturesque town of Florida, New York, offers exactly this balance. It is an established retreat in the lower Hudson Valley, renowned for its peaceful environment and its unique blend of convenience and natural setting.
It is important for local users to note that the campground is currently undergoing a significant transition and rebranding. While it is widely known as Black Bear RV Park, it is now operating under new ownership and is transitioning toward a luxury resort model called Serenity Ridge Mountain Club. This is a crucial detail for prospective visitors, as it means the park is in a state of evolution. While some reviewers have noted a period of renovation with limited amenities, the core RV campground remains a desirable option, and its future promises a significant upgrade in facilities. The park maintains a reputation for being clean, peaceful, and a highly strategic base for exploring everything the Hudson Valley and Orange County have to offer. As a customer review noted, the location is "perfect—we loved exploring the beautiful Hudson Valley and all the great places nearby."
Location and Accessibility
Black Bear RV Park, soon to be Serenity Ridge Mountain Club, enjoys an enviable location in Orange County, NY, placing it squarely in the beautiful lower Hudson Valley.
The physical address is:
197 Wheeler Rd, Florida, NY 10921, USA
This location is a significant advantage for New York City and surrounding area residents. It is conveniently positioned only about an hour and fifteen minutes from the heart of New York City, making it one of the most accessible RV campgrounds for a weekend escape from the five boroughs. This close proximity means it can even be considered a semi-urban base camp for extended stays that include day trips into Manhattan, as noted by one camper review.
The area surrounding the park is a draw in itself. The charming and historic village of Warwick, known for its boutiques, apple orchards, and breweries, is a short drive away. The campground is nestled on Wheeler Road, providing a feeling of seclusion despite the easy access to nearby town centers like Florida, NY, where a variety of restaurants and essential shopping are available within a twenty-minute drive. For RV travelers, the park is known to be "Big Rig Friendly," offering sites that are generally easy to pull into, although site leveling and utility extensions may occasionally be required depending on the specific spot due to natural terrain variations. The quiet, wooded surroundings make the drive an easy transition from the city rush to a tranquil, natural setting.
Services Offered
The services at Black Bear RV Park are currently focused on providing robust utility connections for a comfortable RV stay, while the future Serenity Ridge Mountain Club promises expanded, resort-level amenities.
Features / Highlights
The campground’s appeal is deeply rooted in its location and the potential of its new direction. Its current highlight is its function as a strategic, tranquil base, while its future highlights will be those of a luxury destination.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
Black Bear RV Park, soon to be known for its elevated status as Serenity Ridge Mountain Club, is perfectly suited for New York locals seeking a convenient and high-quality escape. For those with an RV, it offers a crucial service: a big-rig-friendly site with full hookups less than two hours from Manhattan and the boroughs. The scarcity of comparable options in this highly desirable section of the Hudson Valley makes it a vital resource. It provides a peaceful base—a quiet, clean, and well-maintained spot—from which to enjoy all the rich cultural and outdoor offerings of Orange County, from farm-to-table dining to challenging hiking trails.
Moreover, its current phase represents a unique opportunity. While travelers may experience a facility in transition, they are also booking into a future luxury destination that promises state-of-the-art amenities like a resort pool and specialized courts, ensuring the experience will only get better. For locals looking for a reliable, semi-seasonal home-away-from-home in their RV, or simply a weekend launchpad to explore the best of the lower Hudson Valley, Black Bear RV Park (Serenity Ridge Mountain Club) provides the ideal blend of accessibility, utility, and the peaceful, natural beauty that defines a perfect New York escape. It is an investment in future relaxation, offering immediate convenience.
We had a great stay! The location is perfect—we loved exploring the beautiful Hudson Valley and all the great places nearby. The campground was peaceful, clean, and well maintained. Our site was easy to pull into and the hookups were all in great condition.
Jul 07, 2025 · Will RobertsThis campground was a convenient location for our visit to the lower Hudson Valley. It is only about an hour and fifteen minutes to New York City, so it could even be used as a base for visits there. It was quiet, and clean. There are no amenities nor on-site staff. The campground is recently under new ownership, and is now called Serenity Ridge Mountain Club. What had been the upper campground is being transformed into a "luxury park model resort." It will be interesting to see what happens to the RV campground. Hopefully, it will remain, and maybe even get some updates. It would be a shame if its days were numbered, since there are not many options in this part of the world. Details: We stayed on site 20, back-in FHU, 50/30/20 pedestal tall enough for Watchdog to clear ground, water, 4" threaded sewer. Water pressure varies from on the low side of okay to low. Utilities are toward the front of the site, but I had to back toward the rear of the site because it is more level toward the rear, so I had to use the extensions for both the electrical and the water, and multiple 10' sections of sewer hose. Toward the rear of the site, level enough to allow auto-leveling with nothing under the tires. Gravel with grass / weeds growing up through it. Spacing was snug on the awning side; with our awning extended, it went right to the edge of the adjacent site. Spacing is very generous on the other side. Water faucet is 1/4 turn and is low to the ground. Picnic table, fire ring. The odd numbered sites in our section are on the uphill side of the road so they slope down toward the front. The even numbered on in our section are on the downside side of the road so they slope down toward the rear. Big rig friendly. OTA TV: 2 France 24, one english, one french, old movies, shopping, that's about it. No PBS, no major networks. AT&T 9.00 Mbps down, 2.57 Mbps up; Verizon 1 bar 5G, 13.3 Mbps down, 2.61 Mbps up. There are a number of restaurants in nearby Florida, and just about anything you would need within a twenty minute drive.
Jun 22, 2025 · David SandersHwy 17A is restricted to 10 ton, so not big rig friendly. Site was 50 amp, but voltage dropped to 112v and with 3 a/c and appliances voltage dropped further, and our power manager shut down our power to protect our appliances and a/c. Paid over $95 for a site with dirt, sand, some rock, mowed weeds, and NO amenities. In our 11 yrs of full-time RV living, it's not the worst place, but it's in the bottom 5. They do have good water pressure!
Jun 21, 2025 · SALIt's a nice, clean, quiet, fully hands off location with full hookups and 50 amps and nothing else. Its absolutely not worth $100/night to park the rv at but its supply vs demand and we couldn't find anywhere else to accommodate our camper during our timeframe.
Jul 22, 2025 · David WexlerWe recently stayed at Black Bear for several weeks, as we had need to regularly be in NYC. Though most amenities weren't available (a mix of ongoing work by the new owners + arriving during the shoulder season), we didn't miss anything at this beautiful campground. The provided facilities are clean, the campground roads and trails are well kept, and the staff is friendly, helpful, and quickly responsive. While online booking, check-in, etc., may be frustrating for some folks, we vastly preferred this to the mess of paper we usually end up with at campgrounds. The town of Florida is an easy place to park for days, weeks, or months. There are plenty of local restaurants, the local hardware stores are great, and it's a quick drive in any direction for groceries, hiking, world-class shopping, etc. Older reviews are tied directly to prior owners, and should be taken with a grain of salt when looking at this campground. We would happily book with Black Bear again!
