For those in Kentucky yearning for an authentic escape into nature, far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, White Oak Boat-In Campground offers a unique and truly secluded experience. Nestled along the beautiful shores of Laurel River Lake in London, KY, this campground provides an unparalleled opportunity to connect with the wilderness. Unlike traditional drive-up campgrounds, White Oak's boat-in access ensures a peaceful environment, attracting those who appreciate privacy and the raw beauty of the outdoors.
This isn't your typical RV park with all the bells and whistles; White Oak Boat-In Campground embraces a more primitive style of camping, focusing on the natural setting rather than extensive modern conveniences. It's the kind of place where the sounds of the lake and the rustling leaves replace traffic noise, and the stars shine brighter without light pollution. Many local campers consider it their favorite yearly retreat, a testament to its serene atmosphere and stunning lakeside campsites. If you're looking to truly unwind and immerse yourself in the Kentucky wilderness, White Oak Boat-In Campground might just be your perfect destination.
White Oak Boat-In Campground is strategically located within the Daniel Boone National Forest, specifically on Laurel River Lake, near London, KY. This placement offers visitors not only a stunning lakeside setting but also access to the broader recreational opportunities of the national forest.
Access to the campground is a key defining feature: it is primarily a "boat-in only" site. This means that to reach the campsites, visitors must arrive by boat. The closest boat ramp is Marsh Branch Boat Ramp. From I-75, take exit 38 (London) and travel west on KY 192 for approximately 12 miles. Turn left (south) onto Forest Service Road 774 and continue for about 2 miles to the Marsh Branch Boat Ramp. From there, boaters will travel approximately one mile south across Laurel River Lake to reach the campground.
For those who prefer to arrive on foot, the campground is also accessible via the Cold Rock School Trail #430, a three-mile hike that begins near the Marsh Branch Boat Ramp. While this offers a walking option, the "boat-in" nature of the campground is truly what sets it apart, ensuring a more private and less crowded experience. This unique accessibility contributes significantly to the secluded and peaceful ambiance that campers consistently praise.

We love this campground! It's not for everyone because it's boat in only ,no electricity and the only restrooms are the outhouse style. There is water access though . If you want a private campsite on the lake with picnic tables, firepit with grill grate, level tent sites and poles to hang lights towels wet clothes....then you'll love it 😀
Jun 30, 2023 · Chris BungenstockThis is our favorite place to go camping and we try to come every year more than once! The campsites are all along the water, it's secluded and peaceful and the lake is beautiful!!
Jul 15, 2019 · Kristina McFeetersReally nice, facilities good, campsites great. this time of year no one’s there so very private. I had a great weekend.
Oct 16, 2017 · Brad BigelowGreat place, some of the ingresses into the campground are hard to see from the water but we camped in #12 and it was a great spot. This is primitive camping, no electricity, boat in or hike in only. There are nice restrooms that are basically out houses but they are super clean and spacious. There are some running water spickets around the campground available as well.
Sep 02, 2022 · Tut “Tutswamzi”Fabulous place, water and primitive bathrooms, no electric. The caretakers are super nice. It is a self pay - drop in your fees. PAY THE FEES. They have so many people skipping out and they need those funds to keep it running.
