Introduction / Overview
For South Dakota residents and those traveling across our great state, finding a reliable, accessible, and comfortable campground is paramount to a successful trip. The Wiste Campground in Summit, South Dakota, offers a practical and affordable lodging solution, particularly for those needing an extended stay or year-round access—a rare and valuable find in this region.
Positioned strategically near a major interstate, this is a straightforward "mom and pop" operation that prioritizes utility and function, especially catering to long-term guests like out-of-town workers, hunters, and seasonal travelers. The core appeal of Wiste Campground lies in its commitment to providing full-service hookups and a highly convenient location, all offered at competitive daily, weekly, and monthly rates. While some campgrounds focus solely on recreational amenities, Wiste focuses on foundational necessities—reliable utilities and a place to rest—making it a vital infrastructure asset for those whose livelihood or passion takes them across the northeastern part of South Dakota. The campground provides approximately 15 RV sites, ensuring a manageable and generally quiet atmosphere for weary travelers or those settling in for an extended period.
The property prides itself on its utility features, boasting full hookups for a comfortable stay regardless of the season. Its availability for year-round residency is a key differentiator, recognizing that work and outdoor activities in South Dakota don't stop when the snow flies. Visitors appreciate the spacious, open fields surrounding the property, which provide a sense of peace and space, far from the congestion of urban centers.
Location and Accessibility
The location of Wiste Campground is one of its most compelling features for travelers utilizing the state's main thoroughfares. It is situated in the small community of Summit, South Dakota, within the state’s northeastern corner—a region famous for its Glacial Lakes and premier hunting and fishing opportunities.
The physical address is:
14941 458th Ave, Summit, SD 57266, USA
Crucially, the campground is located only about a half mile off Interstate 29 (I-29). This exceptional proximity to the interstate makes it incredibly easy to access, which is a significant advantage for RVers, especially those operating large vehicles or traveling long distances. The short drive off the main highway minimizes detours and simplifies navigation, whether you're heading north towards the Fargo-Moorhead area or south toward Watertown and Sioux Falls.
This strategic location also places the campground within easy reach of the region’s natural attractions. The numerous fishing and hunting lakes of the Glacial Lakes area are a short drive away, making it a highly practical basecamp for seasonal pursuits. Furthermore, the town of Watertown, offering a broader range of retail, dining, and other city amenities, is only about a 30-minute drive, allowing long-term guests to access necessary services without difficulty. The convenience of being both close to a major highway and central to outdoor recreation defines the accessibility of Wiste Campground.

This is particularly valuable in an area with limited affordable winter lodging options. For the resident hunter or angler, it’s a cost-effective alternative to expensive seasonal leases or hotel rooms, allowing them to fully immerse themselves in the Glacial Lakes outdoor experience for weeks or months at a time. The high accessibility right off I-29 saves precious time and money, making short trips possible and long hauls less stressful. In essence, Wiste Campground provides reliable utility and exceptional value, cementing its role as a necessary and practical resource for the South Dakota community.
Everything we need for a short drive rest day. Full hook ups and only $25/night. I believe there are 15 RV sites. Mom and Pop got a great idea to add some level camping spaces for the weary traveler and even added water, sewer and electric 20,30, and 50 Amp. Nice and quiet off the highway I -29 only a half mile. Wide open fields for your doggie to run and play.
Jul 19, 2025 · Darlene SkinnerI went to do laundry and my landlord started harrassing me with his lawnmower and hovering around me so i got away and went to put my clean dishes away and grab another load of laundry and he mowed everywhere except for my area and the last time he mowed my area he hit me on purpose with the mower blower.... He physically hurt my dog and bragged to me how his dogs would kill my cats and fling them around like rag dolls.... i have an eviction notice and no vehicle, no income and no help i dont feel safe hes come at me once physically when i confronted him on harassing me over things he had confronted me over an things we talked about but kept ignoring me on my missing items and if he could keep and eye out or help because its his land 💔 hes broke into my camper and didnt let me know he was gonna be in their hes damaged two out of three campers ive had and I dont wanna be here. They have no respect or consideration for anyones belongings and property and if you have animals keep a close eye on them he will lie to you and hurt them right under your nose. I recomend having cameras set up or to just not go to this campground. It is all year round and camper is all i have and only campground I could find in my area all year round. It was $500 a month with free washer room but i do not recomend leaving your laundry unattened because ive come back to find my laundry out of the machince and laying all over the floor, no bathrooms or anything for kids and animals its meant more for long month out of town workers. When they do mowe the fling rocks and debri at your windows and depending on the matrial of your camper they will cause damage to the metel outside layer.
Sep 08, 2025 · Taylor HurkesNice quiet campground with full hookups at a great price. Just off of I29 but still quiet. We were towing and found a spot we could just pull through. We stayed overnight and hope to stay again next time we pass through the area. Oct 2024.
Jun 24, 2025 · Sandi BirgenWe enjoyed our stay in this quiet, very well cared for, rural, small campground! The owner welcomed us to our site on his farm when we arrived.
Aug 30, 2025 · Carolyn BevansNewly built, nice and cozy campground! The owners were friendly and very helpful! About 15 minutes from Watertown. They provided a laundry room with newer washers and dryers located in the big red barn on the property. There is a dumpster also on site. We loved all the small details about this place. If back in the area, we will definitely return! Highly recommend this campground for short or long term.
