Woodland Park Campground is conveniently located at E21738 Braziel St, Grand Marais, MI 49839, USA. This prime address places it directly on the southern shore of Lake Superior, within the charming and historic village of Grand Marais. For Michiganders traveling from across the state, Grand Marais is accessible via scenic drives through the Upper Peninsula, often involving M-77 or other state highways that wind through beautiful forests and past numerous inland lakes.
The campground’s most significant locational advantage is its immediate proximity to Lake Superior, with reviewers noting it's "right by Lake Superior" and has a "beautiful beach." This offers stunning "ocean views" (as one reviewer affectionately put it, referencing the lake's vastness) and direct access to the water. Grand Marais itself is a small, quiet, and cool town, especially during the off-season when many places might be closed. However, during peak season, it offers essential services, unique shops, and dining options. Access to the campground roads is generally good, and while the dump station access might have seasonal issues with ice (as noted in an April review), the rest of the roads are typically open and safe for driving. Its location makes it an excellent gateway to the eastern side of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, offering a convenient base for exploring its famed cliffs, dunes, and trails.
Woodland Park Campground distinguishes itself by offering a range of modern amenities that greatly enhance the camping experience, particularly for those seeking more than just a rustic site.
These services collectively contribute to a highly comfortable and appealing camping experience.
The true appeal of Woodland Park Campground lies in its exceptional features that combine natural beauty with convenient access to a charming U.P. town.
These features collectively make Woodland Park Campground a compelling choice for those seeking a comfortable and scenic Michigan camping experience.
Woodland Park Campground is a municipal campground managed by the Village of Grand Marais, rather than a state park or forest campground. This means its pricing and any potential offers are set locally. Reviewers noted that they "pay the same amount to stay in the off-season" despite some facilities (like water at sites, laundry, dump station access) being temporarily unavailable due to freezing weather. This indicates a consistent rate structure throughout its operational season.
Specific promotions or discounts are not typically advertised in the provided information. However, visitors should always check the official Village of Grand Marais website or contact the campground directly for the most current rates, any seasonal specials (e.g., potential off-peak discounts not mentioned in reviews), or package deals that might be available. It is common for municipal campgrounds to offer daily, weekly, or monthly rates that provide savings for longer stays. Information regarding reservations, check-in, and specific pricing for electric vs. non-electric sites would be available through direct contact.
To get in touch with Woodland Park Campground or for inquiries, you can use the following contact details:
While a reviewer noted difficulty reaching the phone number during off-season ("We tried many times at different times, they don't answer"), it's still the official contact. During peak season, responsiveness is likely better. For the most accurate and up-to-date information on site availability, specific amenities status (especially during shoulder seasons), or to make reservations, it's always best to call the campground directly.
For us Michiganders, Woodland Park Campground in Grand Marais presents an outstanding blend of natural beauty and creature comforts, making it a truly ideal destination for a memorable U.P. getaway. It’s perfectly suited for families, couples, and individuals who appreciate clean, well-maintained facilities, the convenience of electric and water hookups, and the luxury of free, hot, untimed showers after a day of exploring.
Its unparalleled location directly on the shores of Lake Superior means stunning "ocean views" and easy access to a beautiful beach, offering endless opportunities for relaxation, walks, and waterside activities. Furthermore, being in Grand Marais means you're at the eastern doorstep of the majestic Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, providing convenient access to some of Michigan's most iconic natural attractions. While some off-season limitations exist (like water shut-offs), during the prime camping season, this campground truly shines, offering all its benefits for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. For Michiganders seeking a clean, convenient, and scenic base to experience the magic of the Upper Peninsula and Lake Superior, Woodland Park Campground is an excellent choice that promises to deliver a truly refreshing outdoor experience.

This place could be easily 5 stars. They put together a very nice, clean and new place for campers. Here are some pros and cons. And we camped here in mid-April (still snows on ground and some roads) so some of these will not be applicable for campers planning to use the facilities during high season. Pros: -Facilities are well cared and new. It was always clean. -There is a laundry service and it coats 50 cents and they were in the process of painting and adding more (what it looked like) machines but.. (see cons for comments) -It is right by Lake Superior, and has beautiful beach. -Town is quite cool, most places were closed due to off season. -A lot of the sites have electric and water access (water is off until weather warms up due to freezing). -Showers were really hot and free. Also not timed so it's great for shower (unless you don't like hot shower). Cons: -They have a number which says you can call anytime. We tried many times at different times, they don't answer. -The dump drive-in and out wasn't plowed, so access was blocked by ice pileup. The rest of the roads were open and safe to drive (and sign posted for closed, see the picture) -Laundry was not usable, machines were disconnected. The sink water was also not running (maybe due to freezing again). -There was no way to get drinking water as the site waters are off. It would make a huge difference if they added a hot/cold tap inside the warm shower/toilet building that people can access to water somewhere. Sinks are not great to fill up deep bottles. I think water was the biggest issue. We also couldn't do dishes as getting water was hard and we didn't have in our trailer. Overall this place is really nice and I am sure you get all the benefits they offer during peak season. However, you pay the same amount to stay in the off-season.
Apr 23, 2025 · D. SahinThe whole facility is well maintained and both bathhouses are clean and functional. Ocean views are fantastic! The only issue was the 12x12 area just outside the camper steps was in need of some gravel. Luckily, it did not rain but if it had, it would have been a small water reservoir.
May 11, 2025 · richard brayFar from the big stores, the general market is expensive as hell. Half gallon of milk almost $8 and a box of NyQuil 12 count $13. Come prepared and you will be fine. Great place to camp.
May 30, 2025 · Tina WrightI couldn't find a national forest campground open in the area so I thought I'd try Woodland Park Campground. Has electric outlets, good hot showers, nice and clean bathrooms, and a good view of Lake Superior. It's a very short walk to downtown where there are a few restaurants. Unfortunately it's raining, but if it lets up I plan to go and grab a bite!
May 01, 2025 · Brad DYou need to book well in advance for water views, but all sites are nice and well maintained. Our bathhouse was exceptionally clean, the and unisex showers are large, accessible, with plenty of hot water. We were here in September, and it was wonderfully quiet with courteous campers. The beach is outstanding and kept clean. We got lucky and found yooperlight rocks our first night here, but you need the right flashlight 🔦b. Read reviews carefully before buying.
