Woodring Campground is a highly regarded U.S. Army Corps of Engineers facility located on the northern shore of the stunning Carters Lake. Known for its deep, clear waters and undeveloped shoreline, Carters Lake provides a picturesque backdrop for this heavily wooded campground. With 42 individual campsites, including 31 with electric and water hookups, and a dedicated group camping site, Woodring caters to a variety of camping preferences, from comfortable RV stays to traditional tent camping.
The campground is praised by visitors for its quiet, peaceful atmosphere and the breathtaking lake views available from many of its sites. It’s designed to offer a relaxing environment where the natural beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains foothills can be fully appreciated. While it provides essential amenities for a comfortable stay, it maintains a rustic feel that enhances the outdoor experience. Woodring Campground is particularly popular for long weekends and family trips, with many campers returning year after year, drawn by its calm ambiance and the wealth of recreational opportunities presented by Carters Lake. It operates seasonally, typically from early April through late October, making it a prime destination for spring, summer, and fall adventures.
Woodring Campground is conveniently located at 5026 Woodring Branch, Oakman, GA 30732, USA. This puts it approximately 20 miles from Ellijay, Georgia, and roughly 70 miles north of Atlanta, making it a popular and accessible destination for many Georgians.
Getting to Woodring Campground involves a scenic drive through the North Georgia foothills. From I-75 North, travelers typically take Exit 293, then follow Highway 411 North. A right turn onto Highway 136 is followed by a left onto old Highway 411, and then a right onto Highway 282/76. The campground access road is about 4.5 miles off Highway 282. For those coming from Ellijay, GA, you'll take Highway 282/76 West for approximately 11 miles to the access road, then follow the signs.
While the journey is beautiful, it's worth noting some access considerations for larger RVs. The entrance road, approximately 3 miles long, can be twisty and winding, with some low and side branches. Additionally, there's a low bridge (13'7") on Highway 76/Old Highway 411 just north of Sugar Hollow Road that larger rigs should be mindful of. Despite these caveats, many campers with 30-foot Class A motorhomes have reported no issues. The drive is part of the adventure, leading you to a truly secluded and peaceful destination.

Customer Reviews
Woodring Campground is another great Corp of Engineers campground for RV's, with a couple of caveats. We spent a terrific long weekend at this campground about 20 miles from Ellijay on Carters Lake. On the positive side, it's quiet, peaceful, great lake views, level concrete sites, easy water and electric hookups, nice boat ramps, small beach, and small playground. No problems with driving in and setting up our 30' class A motorhome on site 21. The only downsides are that: If you're much larger than 30', the drive up the long and twisty entrance road (about 3 miles) and to the campsites may be challenge. Watch out for low and side branches. There is also a low bridge (13'7") on Hwy 76/Old Hwy 411 just north of Sugar Hollow Rd. Also, as mentioned, it's about 20 miles or 30 minutes to the nearest town. Otherwise, it's a great little campground that we intend to return to.
Our first time camping at Woodring Branch. This place is beautiful. Nice and quiet here. We got site 35 and have a gorgeous view of the lake. We will definitely be back.
Nice and quiet. The facilities where nice and clean Friday and Saturday, but Sunday were a disaster. This is due to weekenders that have no respect for others and make a mess of everything they touch just because they don't have to clean up after themselves. But overall, great place to get away and relax.
### Give this review a "Like", if this was helpful ### Hear this from a Regular Camper - This is one of the Best I have been. You can hike, you can bike, you can camp, you can swim. Very relaxing, You would wake up to a Priceless view of the river and soothing sound of the waves. A must visit for everyone. Family fun - Oh Yeah. There is a Beach they have carved out for kids (and adults too). Also a good kids playground They have both electric (RVs) and primitive camping. Restrooms are very neat and cozy - They have laundry. We didn't reserve, but walked-in to the site on Saturday, The staff were so helpful - they gave us a 20 mins pass into the site and asked us to look and pick the spot we wanted. Tips: * Check-in is at 3pm. The site is closed at night, so you have to get in before they close (hours vary by season - be sure to check the hours). You can go out after night, but can't come in until it opens next day. * No firewood available in the park. Be sure to buy Georgia firewood before you come, if you want to light campfire. Nearby Retail stores are at Elijay ( about 30 mins away) * Some camping sites needs a stroll, as you may not drive your car near the camping site. Be ready to carry your tent gears and boats, for a few yards. * The camping site is surrounded by the Carters Lake, so you will get a Island feel. The camping sites are also mostly build in the banks of the lake to give the Private feel and warmth. * The sites we liked were 39,40,41,42. All of them were so good. 40 being the Best, you can just walk into the lake water (look at Pic). Grab 40, if you can.
We loved the campground so much, we reserved sites for our next trip before we returned home from our first experience there. The lake is beautiful and fairly quiet (mid-Sept.) The campground is lovely. The hosts were kind. We look forward to returning soon.
