Fish Trap Park About
For many of us Georgians, finding that perfect blend of natural beauty and a secure, comfortable place to relax is key to an unforgettable getaway. Fish Trap Park, nestled in the scenic North Georgia mountains of Ellijay, offers a unique camping experience that stands out. While it's not a public campground in the traditional sense, its beautiful riverside location and peaceful ambiance make it a highly desirable destination for those who can access it. If you’re looking for a tranquil retreat with abundant wildlife and a strong sense of community, and you have a connection to a homeowner within this private park, Fish Trap Park might just be your next favorite escape.
Fish Trap Park is a distinctive campground situated in Ellijay, Georgia, known for its beautiful natural setting along a river. It is explicitly stated as "not a public place" and requires visitors to "know someone in here to get a gate code for entry," indicating it operates as a private, possibly membership-based or homeowner-association-governed community rather than a publicly accessible campground. This private nature contributes to a heightened sense of security, with patrols conducted "several times daily in the campground," ensuring that "no one bothers your things."
Despite some notes about potential areas for updating, the park is described as "beautiful" with "lovely little park" amenities. Its most celebrated feature is its direct proximity to the river – "you walk out the door and you are on the river." This provides immediate access to water activities and the soothing sounds of flowing water. Campers can also expect to see "lots of deer roaming the place," adding to the immersive nature experience. The presence of a "huge pavilion and a big smoker for throwing parties" suggests a community-oriented environment, perfect for gatherings and events among its members or residents.
Fish Trap Park is located at 31 Goblet Ct, Ellijay, GA 30540, USA. This places it within the picturesque North Georgia mountains, a popular region known for its natural beauty, outdoor recreation, and charming small towns like Ellijay itself. Ellijay is renowned for its apple orchards and serves as a gateway to numerous hiking trails and scenic drives.
Access to Fish Trap Park is a critical point of information: it is a private community, and entry requires a gate code. Visitors must "know someone in here to get a gate code for entry," emphasizing its exclusivity. This strict control over access ensures security and privacy for its residents and their invited guests.
Once inside, visitors should be aware of the internal roads. Reviews mention that the roads are "so narrow and tons of curves," requiring careful navigation, especially for larger vehicles or RVs. Additionally, the abundant wildlife, particularly deer, means drivers need to "be careful when you enter the gates because... Deer just walk out in front of you." Despite these considerations, the managed access and secure environment contribute to its appeal for those seeking a more exclusive and peaceful retreat in the heart of Georgia's natural beauty.
- RV and Tent Camping: The park accommodates RVs, as suggested by reviews focusing on RV experiences, and likely offers areas for tent camping.
- Full Amenities (implied for homeowners): Described as a "lovely little park with full amenities," though some access (like the pool) is restricted to homeowners or their guests.
- Vending Machines: Available on-site for convenient access to snacks and drinks.
- River Access: Direct access to the river is a major highlight, ideal for fishing, wading, or simply enjoying the riverside ambiance.
- Security Patrols: The campground is regularly patrolled "several times daily," ensuring security and preventing unauthorized access or disturbances.
- Large Pavilion: A "huge pavilion" is available, perfect for hosting parties, gatherings, and communal events.
- Large Smoker: A "big smoker" is provided, ideal for outdoor cooking and BBQ events for groups.
- Restrooms: Ladies' restroom is mentioned, indicating facilities are available, though a review notes a lack of hot water for showering in that specific restroom and a need for step repairs.
- No Public Pool Access: Access to the pool requires a "guest pass or come with a homeowner," meaning it's not a general amenity for all campers.
- No Hot Water for Showers (Ladies' Restroom): A specific point of concern from a review, indicating potential limitations in shower facilities.
- Direct River Access: A paramount feature, allowing campers to step right out their door and be on the river, ideal for relaxation, fishing, or simply enjoying the water.
- Abundant Wildlife: Campers consistently see "lots of deer roaming the place," providing a unique opportunity for wildlife viewing right from their campsite.
- Secure and Private Environment: As a private park with gated entry and regular patrols, it offers an enhanced sense of security and peace of mind for visitors.
- Quiet and Peaceful Atmosphere: Despite potential for events at the pavilion, the overall environment is described as "quiet," making it suitable for those seeking tranquility.
- Community Event Facilities: The "huge pavilion and a big smoker" are excellent features for hosting private parties, family reunions, or community gatherings.
- Scenic North Georgia Location: Situated in the beautiful Ellijay area, surrounded by mountains and natural beauty, offering a picturesque backdrop for camping.
- Potentially Long-Term Stays: Mention of "paying $550 for 2 wks" suggests it caters to longer-term camping, possibly seasonal or extended visits for members/homeowners.
- Pet-Friendly: While not explicitly stated, private parks often allow pets, making it a potential option for those traveling with furry companions. (To be confirmed with the park).
Given that Fish Trap Park is a private community requiring pre-existing connections for entry ("You will have to know someone in here to get a gate code for entry"), it does not typically offer "promotions" or "special offers" in the traditional commercial sense to the general public. Access is granted through association with a homeowner or member.
Any "offers" would likely be internal to the community, such as:
- Guest Privileges: The main "offer" is the ability for homeowners to invite guests, granting them access to the park's facilities (though some, like the pool, may require a specific guest pass).
- Member/Homeowner Benefits: Access to the park and its amenities is a core benefit of being a homeowner or member. Any special rates or seasonal offerings would likely be communicated directly to this internal group.
Prospective visitors interested in staying at Fish Trap Park must first establish contact with an existing homeowner or member to arrange their visit and gain entry. Any associated fees, such as the "$550 for 2 wks" mentioned in a review, would be part of the private arrangements between the guest and the homeowner or the park's internal fee structure for guests.

While some areas might benefit from updating, the core offering of a beautiful, quiet riverside location with security and community-oriented facilities like the pavilion makes it highly suitable for private gatherings, extended family stays, or peaceful retreats.

Customer Reviews
Fish Trap Park is a beautiful campground but could use a little updating. The downside of staying here is getting no amenities. If your paying $550 for 2 wks then you should atleast be able to use the pool. To swim you will need to have a guest pass or come with a homeowner. The ladies restroom has no hot water for showering. The steps needs fixing heading up to the bathroom (someone fell & ambulance come) On a positive note, you walk out the door and you are on the river and get to see lots of deer roaming the place. Be careful when you enter the gates bc the roads are so narrow and tons of curves. Deer just walk out in front of you also. Its not a public place. You will have to know someone in here to get a gate code for entry. They also patrol several times daily in the campground and noone bothers your things. There is a huge pavilion and a big smoker for throwing party's.
Lovely little park with full amenities, including vending machines. This is a bear location so be cautious.
Great spot. It was incredibly beautiful and kept up with a nice new playground for the little ones. Security is lacking, and if you have a rude neighbor, good luck. The bathrooms are in severe need of an update.
We've been going to the park for over a decade. Over the years there have been many changes in the management. This year, once again there were issues with the women's bathroom and trash pickup. Our host had to call and get the problems solved. The park is beautiful and the campsites are very good and level.
Great place to bring the family. Camping available.
